    I feel like we wanted something like 6.5 Grendel. Which has more range and power while not having much extra weight and recoil. But army for some reason wanted something that was too big. Lol most people think 556 is a little too small but those people would probably agree 6.8 x51 is too big, might as well just readopted the m14 with new barrels😂

      @@themorningstar4512 they could of gotten so many other options. 6.5 Grendel is half the weight of 7.62 x51 and basically has the same amount of range. Some people say well low recoil in full auto for 556. When I was in the army they never allowed us To shoot the m4 in full auto. 5.56 is good for 300 meters and less, but anymore and your basically shooting a 22lr with a jacketed bullet.

      @@residenthooker2498 If the 5.56 m4 is so flawed and anemic that they have to bring in "dmr's" to make up for the m4's weaknesses, then they need a new caliber for the m4, NOT a "dmr" or "battle rifle". The 224 valkyrie is what the 77 grain "mk262" wanted to be but failed. The 6.5 grendel using a 140 grain projectile and sigs hybrid cased technology and 30 round mags for the m4, would have been far more practical and efficient. It would be the same rifle but just improved. It appears as if someone is purposely TRYING to sabotage our military. 5.56 and 7 62 nato are obsolete end of story, but swapping everything out for an old obsolete "battle rifle" is just plain stupid.

      @@themorningstar4512 I don’t consider 6.5 Grendel a battle rifle cartridge with low recoil. It’s a short light weight cartridge and you could get it in 100 grain projectiles. But a 224 Valkyrie would be a better choice too. I just think our rifle cartridge should just be a tiny bit bigger. Because you gain more than just power you gain accuracy with the ability to buck the wind and low bullet drop. But I think 556 wouldn’t be a bad choice if they just didn’t make it where pretty much everyone had it except the m240 gunner. How is anyone gonna do anything past 400 meters if the 240 gunner goes down, and they can’t recover it.

      @@residenthooker2498 I wholeheartedly agree, just imagine if they took sigs hybrid cased tech and used 140 grain rounds and combined them in the 6.5 grendel! It would replace not only that 5.56 nato garbage, but it would also outperform the 7.62 nato in terms of controllability, capacity, weight and better for general purpose usage. The 5 56 and 7.52 nato where mistakes from the very beginning, they should have chosen the 280 British.

    I acknowledge the problems with the round and the gun, but come on, don't diss the Vortex scope as well. It would pretty much give the soldier a lot of benefits in terms of accuracy due to the ballistic calculator. It's all a matter of composite materials and other stuff.

    • @infogunvault6920

      Rangefinding and ballistic calculating is obviously a good advantage. I just think there is a tendency to try to throw technology and money at things before we figure out if we really need something or not.
      All sorts of failed military programs come to mind like the XM25 grenade launcher( also has integral rangefinder) that was not practical and was also intended to provide more lethality and accuracy.
      I'm not the sort of person to just react to new technology and say, "we don't need that!"
      I just think the with the way the military industrial complex works, we end up with a lot interesting concepts that ultimately aren't always practical.

    Need to figure out how to boost 5.56 and 7.62x51 power with improved powder and got to figure out how to jam a steel core through level 4 AP armor at range.

    • @infogunvault6920
      @infogunvault6920 2 місяці тому

      That's a tough one to figure out.
      I think if you managed to increase the pressure of .308 enough to make steel core rounds penetrate at range, you'd basically have to design new weapons (and probably a "new" .308 case to take the significantly higher pressure.
      If it takes .300 win mag velocities to get steel core .30-06 M2AP to penetrate level 4 armor, it would logically take a very hot .300 win mag load or a step up in cartridge to make a steel core .30 cal projectile penetrate out at range.
      I'm not saying it can't be done, but I think you'd have to have a compressed load and very thick cartridge wall (probably steel )to have any chance of success.
      There are people that would probably be able to answer this question better, but I tried.

      @@infogunvault6920 Your thinking with all the current tech, technology always evolves. New manufacturing processes, new high strength brass, new metallurgy, new alloys, new engineering at the atomic level. My point is the shape and size of 5.56 and 308 cannot be beat, they are perfect sizes for their use, one for repeat fire one for long range. think a strengthened barrel, bolt carrier group, spring, cases and rifle with atoms lined up perfectly at the atomic level, now include high powered cordite. You now have a armor piecing round and rifle firing "magnum dynamite." All while keeping the perfectly light and balanced M-16, M-4, AR-10 and Ar-15.
