I've loved Marcus for years now, but I honestly feel that of the current lads Vish is best suited. Fluid natural speaker, witty but poignant, and a bit of a fucking dreamboat let's be honest!
I used to work with a referee, the highest level he reffed at was early FA cup rounds. He did know some of the PL refs personally. He wouldn't join our FPL group at work in case there was a perception of bias for him or his friends. I rolled my eyes at the time, but I'd rather his attitude than Coote's.
A referee is the supreme judge, not just a politician. Thats why everyone is so shocked by the incident and dismayed by their performances to the point of suspicion of corruption.
I am 100% certain every ref has their level of biases. All refs have a coach they hate, who think they're c---s or worse. Is this really the issue? Managers throw thinly veiled references at referees all the time. Think Anthony Taylor and Chelsea. Coote was just dumb enough to be caught on camera being coked out of his head. Michael Oliver was paid by the City owners to ref a side gig then magically soft penalty was awarded to Rodri in the MANCHESTER DERBY? He's also since given a double yellow to Dalot and was the VAR for that West Ham penalty. How is this NOT a problem being discussed?
100% and it shows that it isn't just a club thing. Liverpool have the smoking gun but the bullet casings and gunpowder residue of this guy's corruption are all over the Prem.
The old boys network are out in force defending him already. Neville saying Coote has no bias against Liverpool when he has bias against them himself is priceless stuff. Absolute Sky shill.
I think the real question isnt *should* he ref again but *can* he. Can he ref with that info out there? Can he ever make a decision without that clip being referenced? Pension him off to lower leagues to save everyone including himself
You've got it arse ways about. The question is definitely should, not can. Can he ref again? Yes, he's not mysteriously forgotten how to referee a Premier League Football match, and he can make decisions whether or not that vid is mentioned. Should he be allowed? Who knows.
@acackc9138 no that's the wrong way. He can't hold a position of trust if no one trusts him. Even if it's just optics. He can't make any decision that impacts Liverpool or their rivals without this being brought up. Unfairly or not he *can't* hold this position of trust in the Premier league
Thinking refs don't have feelings both negative or positive towards teams is just naive. Feels like the whole PGMOL needs a reboot with new people, this bunch is full of frauds.
They all have biases, think we all know that, you just expect them to be mature and professional, this guy has proved he's neither, as well as proving he's xenophobic and thick to go along with it, so he should be completely done.
Just in terms of the man utd-west ham game referred to, in defence of coote, coote was the ref who didn't give the pen on the pitch, it was Michael oliver who was var and got coote to change his mind and give the pen -coote didn't give it on the pitch.
Why did it take so long for this video to come to light? It's been in existence for up to 3 years, so who knew of it? Did Cootes know it was still hanging around and if so, was he under pressure from anyone to make sure it didn't come out? What was the nature and purpose of that pressure? Did PGMOL know of it? Why was Cootes not chosen to referee a Liverpool match after the Burnley match until earlier this year, two years later? Lots of unanswered questions still to be resolved in a "full" PGMOL investigation, if PGMOL is the right "independent" forum for an investigation.
David coote has sealed his own fate. He should swallow his pride and leave the premier League permanently 😡😡😡 He has a terrible reputation when refereeing games. 😤😤😤😤😡😡😡😡
I think there’s something deeply insane about the idea that managers increasingly say completely insane shit to referees but we expect them to just pretend it wasn’t said to them and ignore it. If Klopp didn’t want a referee to think he was a cunt and harbor anger towards him, well he shouldn’t have acted like a cunt to him then should he? I can understand a suspension because it was real stupid to let that be recorded, but it seems the height of insanity to say Coote can’t do his job anymore. Start dropping 7 figure fines on this millionaire managers until they learn they cannot treat officials this way and 90% of the problem goes away.
I doubt Klopp gives a solitary shit that Coote called him a cunt, as a Liverpool fan I couldn't care less either. The issue is him and his mate sitting there while his mate says *we* hate Liverpool and Scousers. Coote didn't say it but that will always hang over him, that he was clearly sat there having a conversation about a club he hates, a club he's supposed to be impartial towards. The issue is the video and everything about it casts massive doubts over his trustworthiness and whether he's been compromised, especially when you consider the objectively awful decisions he gave just a few months after that Burnley game that led to him being taken off our games for 4 years as a referee. In a position of power like an active referee you categorically can't allow yourself to be caught slagging off teams and managers and get away with it, staggering that you can't get your head around that, there's absolutely no excusing it. Referees obviously shouldn't be abused but you could hear the sort of stuff Robertson and Klopp were saying to Coote after the Burnley game, it was kids stuff, "what's the point of you", "you didn't see anything all game", it was all on camera, hardly anything worth fucking crying over is it? Your reaction doesn't really match what actually happened. He was also xenophobic in the video, as well as utterly stupid, he shouldn't be refereeing at the top level on the basis of that alone really, who wants little bigots like that in charge in a multi cultural league like the PL? Why would anyone want someone who appears to be coked up, acting utterly unprofessional without seemingly a single thought in his head, swearing like he's on a building site (which doesn't remotely bother me but I know the word cunt bothers some) in a position of power? Every single part of his credibility has been undermined.
You really ought to have a stronger personality than this for a referee. It's really quite pathetic. If he has been allowed to rise this far then there is definitely something wrong with the system that produces the likes of him. I remember a referee from the 1st division days who had such presence and charm that he could get the entire crowd on _his_ side. His name was Roger Milford from Bristol. (as it was always stated beneath his image) Our referees today are mostly like robots, without personality. Authority is achieved with personality. You have to be a strong character to be a referee and that standard has been dropped.
Racist and xenophobic slurs can never be allowed... "Kick it out"? But... "getting caught" being a racist or xenophobe is the bad thing??? OMG. If other refs think "I could be caught saying that..." *maybe* it's a good thing they don't stay refs.
Bring in European refs get rid of the PGMOL and it ends all this crap most of the English refs are on the take simple Oliver and Taylor for sure they are scumbags the worst
Feel bad for Coote. Someone has to be allowed to get drunk and make a mistake without their life being ruined. Maybe Klopp is a prick! Every ref will have these thoughts
Marcus for match of the day presenter let's all come together😂😂
You mad? 😂

He does everything but his day job

Coote wasn't VAR he was the ref for Utd v West Ham, Michael Oliver was VAR, they both got it wrong it wasn't a pen

Are you a Liverpool fan?

The theme sounds like its based on We care a lot by Faith no more.
Great song

All referee’s probably act like this, but Coote was stupid enough to allow his comments to be recorded?!
Just in terms of the man utd-west ham game referred to, in defence of coote, coote was the ref who didn't give the pen on the pitch, it was Michael oliver who was var and got coote to change his mind and give the pen -coote didn't give it on the pitch.
There is no way someone didn't blackmail him to fix matches to make some quick bucks.
Make match of the day great again
Wonder what punishment a manager would get in the same circumstances?
Xenophobia would see them pretty blacklisted at the top level on its own, especially if they were as untalented as managers as Coote is as a referee.
That is sort of my point. Six-figure fine, sacking and probably not coming back to European footy.

Not enough comment on the irony of Coote calling Klopp arrogant given the arrogance displayed in the video and in allowing the video to be made…
To be fair, Marcus would do a brilliant job of MOTD ... Maybe MOTD2

He went further in his comments than just Klopp

if you hate a whole city and all of their players because the ex manager shouted at you then you arent fit to be a ref
I'm sure that other managers/ coaches have shouted and swore at referees and assistant referees over decisions that they thought were incorrect!!
He can't do the job anymore because he has crossed a line. Some things are sackable offences.
Marcus with some measured comments re Coote!

Man City are happy enough?but they don't get bad calls. But they offer the officials a pay day in Saudi Arabia.
They are owned by Abu Dhabi. At least get the country right
David Coote new name Pablo EscoVAR 😂😂😂
Feel bad for Coote. Someone has to be allowed to get drunk and make a mistake without their life being ruined. Maybe Klopp is a prick!

the man told no lies
