I shared a house with a guy at college who's girlfriend had an incredible memory. She hardly ever took notes in lectures, could recall what she had to eat each day, dinner conversations, weather, clothes people wore, all kinds of stuff you and I would not be able to recall. When tested on verifiable facts, I don't recall her being wrong, but then my memory is nothing like that good. He confided in me once that it was a bloody nightmare because he could never win any argument that relied on memory

So if something tragic happens in your life you get to recall it over and over and never forget it. Nice. I'm all set. Our brains forget for a reason sometimes.

Wrong because forgetting and suppressing a memory is a psychological reaction, not a voluntary cognitive one. We hide and suppress bad memories because we find them terrifying, it's a defense mechanism.
I can't see someone with an autobiographical memory having to remember all memories, even horrible memories that are mentally damaging.

This is endlessly fascinating to me. I watch this 60 Minutes story (this YT clip) at least once a year. I wish I had their ability.
I recall Marilu Henner demonstrating this ability decades ago, before Dr. McGaugh and the label HSAM came along, on "Later, with Bob Costas." Costas tested her by naming a date, and Henner became animated: "Who told you to pick that date?!" Costas said "Well, it was the date of the moon landing," to which Henner said, "Yes, but it's also the day I lost my virginity." LOL!

I believe this is an evolved trait - if/when most humans acquire this trait - we will adjust accordingly.
It would be a concern for tragedies and/or abuses.
But remembering the day and details are subject to prompt - I know we can put subjects out of our conscious memory - they would be able to, as well.
Truly it is an evolving trait - we are a truly amazing species.
And we have Infinite Intelligence supporting us.

Numonics are a substitute for long term memory. When I have something memorised, I don’t need the numonic that I used before I had finally put the item in my long term memory. Of course once it is in long term memory, its as familiar next year as it is at this moment. It is permanent. There are things that will happen today that I will remembor for a long time and there are things that will happen today that I won’t remember for an hour. The trick is understanding what makes the remembered things memorable and the other things not rememberable. Then you can choose what you will remember. A clue is that you and I remember things that are familiar and personal, i.e., we remember the things that are a part of us. When something becomes a part of us we automatically remember it. I remember where my keys are just like I remember where my feet are. My keys and my feet are a part of me. Take the time to get to know something that you want to remember. When I hear your name for the first time, I can examine it and get to know it or I can quickly dispose of it and move on.

She don't know that she was half dead and came back to life like me and she is using her soul memory and not body memory. She has the ability to time travel to the past. I have the ability to foretell the future through Jesus by my soul on selected events. Soul won't struggle to remember. Soul that belongs to heaven has unlimited memory and unlimited after life and possible reincarnation. In other words human body has limited life like 90 years and so has a limited brain like a hard drive. At 4:37 and 6:37 when we ask how do they do it and they say "I just see it". It is nothing but the time travel cloud. The only thing that these extreme guys forgot is that they are already dead and came back to life. The interesting question to ask them is that at what age did they discovered their abilities.

I wish they would test their data retention. Let them read a chapter from a medical text and try to recite or explain the contents. My guess is that it's strictly autobiographical otherwise I would expect more of them to have careers that would make use of such a rare talent like law, medicine, science, etc. It's very fascinating though, but I could see how it could be a curse, haunted by every misdeed ever done to you. Mentally beat up by little Bobby Bowser on the playground over and over.

What I can do is nothing like what they've done. Having said that, they didn't quite test the memories of these individuals to find out how accurate they really are.
What age did their ability to do this begin at? They didn't say. Do they remember being a year old? What happened on that day? Do they have older siblings who could answer some of those questions? What about their classmates from preschool or kindergarten? Do they remember them?

I used to always look at the clock at 11:11 pm when in college, but eventually I stopped. Nothing like these people, but often I tell my husband about things I remember from a very young age...like when my parents gave me live colored baby chicks at Easter, age 3, or trying to catch a bird and it pecking my hand around the same age or things I ate or liked then or seeing my baby brother the 1st time, etc. Even things from when I was still in my crib, like a favorite teddy bear and a Buzzy Bee pull toy or where I laid in the floor to take a nap. And he says he doesn't remember before age, say 8 or so, or thinks he doesn't anyway. I am sure many people remember as far back as I do in flashes or mental pictures.
