I heard a mix on a local college radio station a couple of years ago that mashes up perfectly. Hot line bling and Escape, the Pina colada song. I couldn't believe how well they went together...
The reason why it's blowing up is because It's nostalgic and doesn't have a lot of overuse of sexual innuendo. Has a fantastic vibe to it that young and old can dance to.
Absolutely agree with you! I’m sick of the raunchy music. I have several Spotify lists but there’s something special about listening to the radio and the dj puts on a fun-loving song like this one
This is a throwback to the late 80's / early 90's when rap and hip hop was all about fun, laughing, loving, positivity...just having a good time! Add a sample from one of the signature songs of the 70's and a feel good hit is born! We need this in the world right now.
Agreed. In the early-mid 80’s my friends and I lapped up every ounce of free-style and early hip-hop we could. Being from Chicago I witnessed the devastation of what Steve Dahl did when he caused a riot at Comiskey Park over his disdain for Disco music. However out of those ashes came the rise of House music cuz DJ’s were spinning records at house parties. Once songs like “Cop Killer” and 2 Live Crew came on the scene it was all downhill from there and the only got worse. Rock music was no better- especially from bands like Led Zeppelin and heavy metal bands. This song is so refreshing and fun to dance to

Best of My Love definitely has a "vault pass" because I hear it all the time being played over the speakers in various retail/business settings (including my own job). And I'm not saying that as a bad thing, I don't mind the song. It reminds me of "Got to Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn, which is another song I've never really gotten tired of.

Yes, agreed. Man you are a great teacher. I had a teacher like you in NYU. He explained complex ideas of religion and existentialism in ways that made it fun and understandable. Yes even if one were on shrooms or smoked up.
I think a lot of people around my age and younger actually never knew this song, myself included, despite being a fan of 60s-70s R&B. I’m black but somehow never heard it at cookouts or picnics either. I never heard it before until my job at Walgreens in 2017 where it was in regular rotation on the playlist and it instantly became one of my all-time favorites! Same story with the Isley Brothers This Old Heart Of Mine. So yeah, I think it’s just a matter of underexposure to it in current times. Never heard Lil Boo Thang before, but I instantly recognized the sample, so I’m glad Best Of My Love is finally getting the recognition it deserves once again!
You are fucking awesome I’m 23 and have been wanting to learn more about music that may have missed my generation. This is definitely one that has even stuck in my brain as a young kid.
I hate the trend of "sampling" becoming just ripping an old song and singing on top of it. Sampling used to be all about flipping and rearranging samples so you can barely recognize where it came from
Good vibes track. It's unfortunate the art of musicians making original tracks is lost though. That track got laid down decades ago and it's STILL bangin'. The current era is lacking that.

Yo man, I recently picked up a Record Store Day edition Orange marbled vinyl of The Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Experience. It's a crazy record that doesn't get enough attention. Large Proffessor, Guru from Gang Starr, Grand Puba, Kool G Rap, Black Sheep and the Pharcyde plus more all dropping rhymes over a live jazz band. It's acutally crazy how little people talk about how crazy of a collab this was. I'd love to see you do a breakdown on how that collab came together in the first place! This why I always it funny when every few years, some journalist or influencer will declare " X genre is dead" and then suddenly 5-10 years later, that genre comes roaring back to the surface and makes them look real stupid. I don't think art dies. It just changes into something else. It's not like groups of any given genre suddenly stop existing or suddenly all the rappers have disappeared. The scene goes on regardless of what the trends or industry thinks of it. People claimed, "punk is dead" but there's still punk bands forming and re-forming all the time. I don't think anyone ever thought Nu-Metal was gonna come back, and yet it still did anyway, and people love it. That's one hell of a redemption arc to go on. Culture doesn't work in a life/death binary, and the vault analogy is a great way to demonstrate that.
