- The Winnipeg Jets have named Scott Arniel as their next head coach, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. As associate coach, Arniel took over coaching duties in Rick Bowness' absence and had a 11-5-2 record as interim head coach. Arniel, previously coached the Blue Jackets for two seasons, going 45-60-18 with no playoff appearances. TSN's John Lu has more.

Scott Arniel as Jets coach isn't a surprise at all. Sadly, True North is too much of a boys club. This team needs postseason success, not just someone with ties to Winnipeg. I hope his success as head coach isn't like his penalty kill was. I wish him luck, and hopefully only a 1 year term to start. Then, if the Jets are out in the first round next year, send him out with them.
When you were friends with players good cop to bowness you can't be fake automatically switch the players won't believe you. And very possible the changes bowness made all come undone from Arniel players bad habits come back.
Arneil was behind the bench during the 6 game late season losing streak that ultimately cost the Jets the Presidents trophy.
was he head coach during the play offs too?
@@scottmcfarlane7524 no
But he also helped us early in the season when bowness left around December and we did pretty good
Really 😅
@@scottmcfarlane7524 No but he was in charge of the penalty kill...a whopping 62.5% against the Avs and 21st during the regular season.
If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting
Arniel is a dead man walking. If anyone believes that Arniel will be able to do what Paul Maurice couldn't is just kidding themselves. Unless they are planning on tearing the core down and rebuilding it through the lottery, this is a terrible move.
I really don't like this move as a Jets fan it looks more like a downgrade more than an upgrade to me
I'd call it more a lateral move than a downgrade. But at the same time, once again, this is just another safe move by the Jets. Playing it safe is all this organization knows how to do. Finding a younger coach with a more nuanced coaching style to open up this team's offense is just anathema to the Jets. TNSE and Chevy rely too much on loyalty and friendships than they do about actual results.
You sure are right about that 😅😮
No it’s just a typical Jets move! Crap.
Dumb move...
