This was definitely interesting. Predominantly black metal, but with a lot of arty, proggy, atmospheric elements that provide a reprieve from the more typically relentless BM assault. Loved the clean vocal section, and also really dug that brief section with the sustained organ afterwards. Seems like the organ would be a great instrument for black metal that I never hear utilized. Outro was really great too. Definitely need to hear some more from these guys.
Glad you dug the song! I'm honestly not huge on post-metal either, but these guys are just incredible. This whole album is a fantastic journey. Cheers!
Listen to that whole album man, it really flows very well from song to song. This is one of my favorites as well as A Blaze of Hammers. The second part of the album is a 6 part epic called Pawn on the Universal Chessboard so if you need to go to a specific place I'd say start there.
I'm glad you are digging into avant-garde metal. Will be awesome to see you react to Solefald - World Music with Black Edges. The pick of experimentation and production fells closer with that song.
Thank you for reviewing A Forest of Stars, would definitely request them if there wasn't another band I'd love to hear your opinion on compositions (Avant-garde metal, Le Grand Guignol - Degenesis (Amor & Seuche)). From A Forest of Stars, i'd single out also Premature Invocation; but really, thank you for reviewing one of my favourite bands. Oh and yes, regarding that relentless oppression you mentioned, after years of listening to metal I like to look at it as padding or coating for main melody lines, it can feel overwhelming, but finer things like violin melody in this song would lose meaning and impact without it, at least to me. Its like an electric wire, the good electricity in the middle, while coated around with rubber/plastic wire, one needs the other.
They're coming out today. I just wanted to group the videos better so this was the Weekend Special Selection day and Bent Knee will be part of the Bonus Videos day.
At this point you've got to be the first (and probably the only) person to ever react to Abigail Williams - Beyond The Veil. It can't get any closer, haha. It's a hidden masterpiece that I believe you'd appreciate for all the same reasons you liked this song, even tho Beyond the Veil is a bit heavier, longer and rawer, it still balances that sonic assault it delivers with beautiful emotional melodies and sections which all together tells a story from the very first note to last...
@@CriticalReactions I appreciate that. Normally I never ask for reactions but I've been following your channel almost from the beginning and discovered some fantastic bands thanks to you as well, like The Dear Hunter! I really enjoy your journey, and since Beyond the Veil is one of my favourite pieces I ever heard, it would be interesting to hear someone's opinion from a different perspective! 🙂
I love your videos but I have to say the sound of the music is pretty bad, specially on heavy stuff like that it's hard to listen. I often find myself going to the original video to have a better sound. I'm not sure how that happens, surely double youtube compression doesn't help but there must be a better way to do it.
I'm honestly tempted to just leave the music out. It's not possible to get good quality with the double compression, talking over the music isn't the best, and leaving the music there is a headache with copyright. But there really isn't a great way to do the reaction segments without the music present so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here.
NO WAY you found them a year before i did. thank you metal achives
Never thought I'd see someone react to these. Awesome band. Lucky enough to say I got the chance to play a gig supporting them a few years back :D
very underrated band
I love this song. It's like a journey through music.
Beware the Sword You Cannot See. Good advice and a good album.
this is a one of the most underrated metal band. this album is just one of the best of all time, for sure.

Sigh is another bm band with organ use if you are interested in that. Maybe even Deathspell Omega iirc.
@@4545guillermaso I'll check out Sigh. I love DsO but I don't recall them using an organ, but it's been a while since I did their discog run.
I think you'll really enjoy the full album, it's fantastic from beginning to end
That was neat. Might have to give that another listen and chew on it some more.

That was pretty dope!
This was oddly captivating. Need to go back and check it out again - or maybe some other song they've done. Any suggestions, anyone?

Definitely a “whole album” listen. It flows together amazingly.
@@joshuao8033 Cool, thanks for this. I’ll be sure to listen to that!
I second Pawn on the universal chess board. What a song!
Like others said, the whole album is a journey and a half

Been waiting for this song..literally wtf...how did they make that work?

Shouldn't the Bent Knee feature be connected to "modern prog week" or how will you fit them in? (Just curious)

I've added it to the spreadsheet as well as a list of lesser known bands (for a future theme 😉)
