Heart breaking and so wrong. There is legislation that protects everyone even at their most vulnerable. Government, statutory bodies and providers are failing to heed the legislation. Just to a name a few that should be followed at all times including during the pandemic are: the MCA, Care Act and Human Rights. No one should be treating individuals or their families the way we have seen over the last 18 months.
Words fail me. Such human tragedy caused by the very people who are imbibed with the responsibility to care for their visitors and their patient residents. This has been difficult times indeed, but the lack of inter home communication, and NHS appropriation of a methodology proven to work in some homes is heartbreaking to hear of. Moving care into the private sector has bumped up the costs and seemingly caused logistical issues that beggar belief. A postcode lottery of diversity in outcomes. The government talk of 'levelling up' yet there is much more to it that simple catch phrasing. There MUST be relavent action to stop the incredible unfairness and ongoing human torture of this lack of cohesive standards. Jane's brave attempt to restore contact with her mother has dealt her no help and substantial anguish which inevitably will impact her health and has already impacted her poor suffering mother. A sad indictment of the way we treat our elderly.
In contrast with Jane's experience my mother's care home has been very accommodating. Many homes are run by private companies and it needs more than guidelines to pull them into line - it needs law and a commitment on the part of care home management to maintaining family relationships.
