    MANDU ÇARARÁ
    Heitor Villa Lobos, Brazil, 1940
The lyrics were composed in a native Brazilian language called Nheengatu and tells a native story. It tells the story of two children of the tribe who were lost in the forest and were found by Curupira (a forest protecting creature), who takes them home intending to eat them. Arriving there, curupira hands the children to the wife who imprisons them! He goes out into the forest! In a moment of distraction from Curupira´s wife, the children come out of captivity and pushes her into the boiling cauldron, fleeing soon after. When the curupira returns, he he does not see his wife or the children, so he concludes that the wife has already put them to cook! proving the stew and finding it delicious, the Curupira eats everything but, when finished, he hears a familiar voice coming from his own belly and realizes in despair that he devoured his own wife!
The children are able to find their way back to their village, and when they get back they are received with such relief by the tribe that they all invoke a feast in honor of the dance and joy god Mandu Çarará.

Leuk geprobeerd maar heeft weinig Braziliaanse spirit in de uitvoering. De nootjes zijn professioneel gespeeld maar dan houdt het ook wel op. Gemiste kans!!
