I'm so excited about the new guidelines. I hope it will catch on and many hearts will be changed to see the importance of fun and full boxes. Great video as always!
Thanks for all your great ideas! I like to think of how excited the children will be when they open their boxes. Samaritans Purse videos of the children opening their boxes and being so thrilled over their gifts is really heart warming.
Great reminder video! I just hosted a filler packing party for my birthday…allthe things I’ve been collecting. It was such fun, 30 people came to help! We packed over 100 pencil cases and 100 hygiene kits and then we packed toy filler. It was such fun! Saved me a lot of time too having all those helping hands!
All our shoeboxes this year are getting a yo-yo and a harmonica, both boys and girls! All will get bounce balls. Larger Christmas themed ones were donated that the toddler boxes will get but the older boxes are getting smaller ones I bought from Amazon. All our middle and older age boxes are getting marbles, too, both boys and girls, thanks to a man who is new in our church and I found out he actually MAKES marbles! What a blessing he’s been! But of course we are still including school supplies, coloring books, maze books and a variety of pull back cars. Sadly, I’m not sure we have enough baby dolls for all the girls, but everyone will get a stuffy! Oh yes, several boys will get generic Lego sets with the small building boards I picked up at Dollar Tree. I have been trying to make sure we have more fun things in the boxes this year than we’ve had in the past. We’ve been guilty of the practical boxes before, but after watching several of you UA-cam ladies videos, I’m working on making sure there is more fun items in the boxes this year! 😉
Wow! You’re doing great! I’m thrilled with all your changes and upgrades to fun, Fun, fun! Yay! I’m glad you’re still including the basics too. Way to go! Also, I definitely think having a plush in every box is fantastic! 🎉🎉🎉 Great you’re sending some dolls! To God be the glory! You’re doing a great job! The children will be sure to respond to the Gospel when they open their boxes and understand God’s love for them. 😊 PS I’m stunned and happy about the marble man making them for you! What a blessing!!
@@christym.814 thank YOU for the encouragement! I know we have sent some very lacking boxes in the past, but by the grace of God, I found several of you ladies on UA-cam and have learned so much about packing better boxes so the love of God can be felt through these boxes. Also the marble man is a God send! He was totally new to our congregation just this year. I started chatting with him once and discovered he was friends with one of my husbands friends who deals in marbles! (My hubby sold old marbles he’d find at yard sales to the mutual friend). As our team leader I was explaining OCC shoeboxes to him. He was not familiar with the program at all. But once I found out he actually MAKES marbles, and he showed and gave some of his rejects they call “eggs!” They were beautiful even though imperfect! I stepped right into asking if he’d donate some for the shoeboxes. He even got his grandchildren involved by having them help put the bags of marbles together! He used this as part of his way of teaching them there are others in need that they could be a blessing to! He has become such a blessing to our congregation! You never know who God will bring into your path to bless the shoeboxes! I talk to anyone I can about OCC now!
Love the ideas. In these other cultures, if it is a choice between a soccer ball or plush, the soccer ball is going to be a huge hit. We were helping a group of kids here (Poland) and the kids didn't have a ball, so they made one with duct tape and trash paper - to play with. (it was inside). That made quite an impression on me. American kids have no idea how poor some of these kids are.
It's my second year. I did my first box last year and I'm doing 3 this year. I'm waiting for the flat boxes to show up at church again. I've been collecting stuff during the year but I need to see how much I can fit. I love watching videos about it.
God bless you and thanks for the tips! There is another OCC recommendation to pack the boxes attractively, such as by color or theme. We enjoy putting together boxes organized by themes such as super-heroes, cartoon characters or even "grow-up-to-be" boxes with paramedic, nurse, doctor, teacher or chef dolls! And please remember the boys; it seems that boxes for the oldest boys can be in short supply. Thanks and God Bless You to all the readers here. Have a great Christmas season!
I think clothes are nice to put in, especially for older kids. BUT ... always always always make sure there a fun things. I always include coloring books, crayons, school supplies, always stuffed animals, small games ... etc. My boxes are always jammed to the max. LOL
My friend and I use the plastic bin with a high lid. Unfortunately it's very difficult to fit a set of school supplies plus things kids need in the small shoe box. Older boys, especially, are hard to pack for in the small box because their wants and needs are a bit more mature than the little kids.
I fill the boxes. In the past i did themed boxes, like dinosaurs or unicorns. But I've heard items get "rearranged" to boxes that arent as full so now it's not as much fun to plan and implement.

Such an important topic. Thank you for presenting the need for “fun” so very well!

@karenpeterfi2223 I just love those videos too! Very inspiring knowing it’s the first time many will hear the Gospel for the first time. ❤

Very Helpful. Thanks. I am getting my SCOUTS ready to participate.

Where can I find the colorful prints for the inside of the shoebox lid that you showed? Thanks so muh!

I want to put a doll in but always feel like they fill the box to full then no room for anything else.
I wanted to add a new idea to my original comment and it was removed. Curious as to why. I don’t understand.
