Ozzy was one of Maynards favorite artists when he was young. He just kicked off the festivities at Ozzy's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony by performing Crazy Train. Love your reactions. I've watched some of them several times . How about Tool performing some Led Zeppelin, "No Quarter "?
Every single one of their songs gets my emotions flowing... Often I like to take a whole album and just seclude myself and listen to the whole thing through! and I hear & learn more EVERY TIME. As I grow I hear more and understand more... ALL great art is like this.. literature, sculpture, poetry all of it.
The record company told them they needed a hard song that would get some air play, so they gave them this, with a 2+ minute slow down as a middle finger to ensure it would never get radio attention, glorious petty revenge.
All true, wanting them to compete with Korn and Linkin Park...they had the right to ask the band to add a song to the album, so THIS is what they got. Maynard also damaged his vocal chords on this track with all the screaming
Yeah, Supposedly this is in reference to their record label wanting them to sound more like Slipknot. "Is this what you wanted?" .... "Is this what you had in mind?"
The funny thing is that Ticks and Leeches was originally written and recorded by ABBA. Maynard heard the song growing up and loved it so much that he talked TOOL into doing this cover of it. It's not quite as heavy as the ABBA original, but it has its moments.
AR, love your breakdowns and the way you pay attention to detail. You gotta get Cliff Beats and BP on to more Tool 🤘😎 I know they would be thrilled too😜👉

I believe this song is to the record company, trying to tell them what to sing
This was Maynard's response to the record label wanting harder music from them.
They gave them what they wanted 🎉

The chorus of this song was actually used in a few commercials back in the day.
