This was a much better movie than the 82 one. Kate was hardly able to believe what she was seeing ( the microscope scene ) herself-let alone any of the others-hence her slowness in sounding the alarm that was enveloping her. I enjoyed this movie!
This lady is a very good actor! The scene where she was looking in their mouths for fillings really had me on the edge of my seat. She did an incredible job of conveying absolute terror while desperatly trying to hold herself together. Great movie, better than the 82 version. Good luck Mary.
The rapidity that people were showing up replicated was , in itself , very realistic . That was stunning , and it underscored for the audience how truly out of their depth these poor people were with what they had found out there and decided to mess with on their own . I liked the narrative and the cast was outstanding , but I felt that some of the scenes could have been more visceral so as to increase the intensity . The tooth fillings scenes added a nice , creepy intensity to the film , I thought .
Man, am I glad Mary Elizabeth Winstead isn't my sister. We would have to engage what I'd like to call Wincest. "I'm your sister! I'm your sister." : D : ) : l : (
She kinda reminded me of Ripley in alien in the way she torched the infected people and cared for people she was trying to protect a really strong and suitable role for her I think
A very big change from Scott Pilgrim to 'the Thing' But as most would agree she is the most beautiful girl ever ever ever. But not in sexy way in lovey way
Watched it yesterday for the first time and I enjoyed it, but it reminded me of, you know … COVID in a way. In fact it was pretty clear early on that the alien acted as a virus. Another thing I though of was Among Us, you know, as everyone was becoming so sus :P I liked it, now I need to watch John Carpenter’s original.
@Hiveslayer18989 I'm talking about the plotting of the movie, plus certain elements. A lot of their predicaments were all but exactly the same, there are more particular examples but i'd have to make a longer, rather pointless argument into it. I think the prequel lacked character development, suspense, and creativity. Plus the attacks that The Thing pulled were usually pointless and without logic or reason, while it had been safe and unsuspected. My opinion, of course
I thought she was terrific in this picture, it's too bad that the movie didn't do very well. I would put that to some bone headed decisions made by Universal to go with CGI and shelve the practical effects which were available. And the far too tight schedule for the director and producer to cast and shoot the picture. Carpenter had literally 1 calendar year to cast, shoot, and edit his movie for theatrical release. This one got barely 5 months, and it showed.
Unfortunately, the prequel flat out wasn't good movie-making. And, nothing compared WHATSOEVER to John Carpenter's, considering it basically copies everything about it. I mean, they could've at least had some originality. SHE however, was a good actor in a not good movie.
And Kate freezes to death. Good because the character sucks. And there were no American's at the camp in the 82 movie, again the studio changed this. The 82 film says all the paperwork is in Norwegian, there were never Americans or French or british at that base. Again the studio should BUT OUT of making movies.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead will forever remain my top personal-favorite live-action actress and little sweetheart....

Kate is my favourite character in the film, I think she played very very well in the film. I love her. :)
I haven't been so fucking happy with a movie like the remake of the thing in a long time. I loved that goddamn movie!

I never liked her, i always loved her
She is a real chameleon. She played it low key, just what the movie needed.

She is very much the Ashley Laurence of today.
@MrHideyoursheep your point of view are totally wrong, she is a great girl
@zleepydude224 I think she did good...she was very much like Ellen Ripley from the alien movies.
hey it's scott pilgrims girlfriend
Too bad she's married to a person who is not me.
