Wonderful production of a masterpiece. Fully engaged ensemble on a lovely set. Great directorial touches . Brilliant performances.. all three leads are excellent
Reflecting on this performance after five years my impression remains that this is definitely one of the best productions, thank you again for posting.
One of my favorite plays...first heard it in my Music Appreciation Class in High School. It's one of those stories that you carry with you always. and make a part of your life, like "A Christmas Carol" and "The Selfish Giant." Thanks for sharing.
I never knew this play existed until I was singing "Impossible Dream" one day and decided to look up its history. I love that song, and I love Don Quixote, so I knew I had to watch it. Such a delightful performance! One of my favorite things about this story is that he not only tries to see the best in the world, but he inspires the world see the best in itself. It's something the people of today could really use.
Very nicely done. This moving play has been one of my favorites since I saw a production with Richard Kiley, who originated the role, in the lead. Several years again I was at another performance with Hal Linden playing the lead. I really enjoyed this presentation and wonderful performances.
This is the ultimate play of Broadway musicals. #1, one can't be the same after experiencing this play. DonQ has always been one of my guides of literary persona...
WOW. This was absolute perfection. I am speechless and blown away. I have listened to the original Broadway Man of la Mancha on Broadway soundtrack many times and I can say that this Aldonza sings better than Joan Diener. Don Quixote was also done very very well here, but of course no Richard Kiley. Bravo all of you!
It would be helpful to know where this was performed. I sang this role many years ago and am going to reprise the opening song and "Impossible Dream" this weekend and it's fun to review with this video. Thanks . . . Richard Fey, San Francisco
DietBillie Ohmagosh, don’t be intimidated! It’s the best role ever!!! Just make sure you communicate with your director and choreographer if you feel unsafe. Have a blast, my dear!
Aldonza would be no older than 25, so don't sweat it. She's cynical, not old. A wonderful soul, tortured with a horrible youth, and Don Quixote offers her a way out - and she takes it.
Shawn Nelson in the source material, Cervantes’ Don Quixote, Aldonza Lorenzo’s age is never mentioned. Joan Diener was 35 when she originated Wasserman’s Man of La Mancha and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was 44 when she played the role in the award-winning Broadway revival. One of the beautiful things about this role is that it is not one that is defined by age (something very rare for women in the entertainment industry). I also do have to take umbrage at your insinuation that there is “25 and under” and “old”.
@@lilaandmel Such brilliant and generous advice. Every time I have seen this show, including this video, I have wondered how challenging this role could be emotionally for the female lead.
It's quite good, but very slow. To give you an idea, it should be 15 minutes shorter. This padre is very nice, but the song goes faster, and it would have been easier for him to sing, as well. The musical director and the director didn't make it happen. Quality production values.
I played Sancho Panza several times ... 1982 NYU, 1983 NY, 1984 Zeiterion Theater New Bedford Mass, 1988 ... in 1984 the director kept us on stage the entire time!!! ... of course, Don Q and I entered the dungeon from the long staircase after the overture .... after that... never left the stage ... it was annoying ... I don't recall if we had an intermission or not. All that aside... the director didn't understand my comic bits ... until I received a great review... then it was an ok experience.
Princess Bananahammock not at all. Sancho and the Governor are two different characters completely. I have been in productions where the Governor and the Innkeeper are doubled but never Sancho.
@@lilaandmel correct ... Sancho ... the man-servant are usually the same comic tenor actor ... the Governor and Inn keeper are different roles.... usually played by the same actor.
Hey, thank you for sharing! Also, may I use your video to make a translate video with traditional chines subtitle for promotion(Non-profit) please ? Sorry for my bad English, really hope you can agree:)
Being decent in an indecent world. Needed as much today as ever.

Truly am amazing production of an amazing play. Thank you for posting this.
One of my favourite plays! Thanks for uploading it. All of you did a wonderful job. All the best!
I found this version of the show to be exceptional and it was Aldonza's show to steal and she did just that
Thanks you Rose Center theatre for a very fine production.
George Strum thank you so much! It was really a joy to work on.

Got to know about it from Quantum Leap

The Captain of inquisition is amazing Villain of Man of La Mancha
Dulciana become the true Knight

This was at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, CA.
uil theatrical design tingz
Me too!

Dulciana has defeated the Captain of inquisition of singing the impossible dream in the end
we want remake the movie of Dulciana of La Mancha
Captain of inquisition is absolute Villain that means Dulciana save the day
Dulciana becomes the new Knight
I have seen the stage production. If you get a chance go.
Where is this theatre? Is it professional? It was a nice production... kudos!
The Knight of the mirrors is the main Villain
The Knight of the mirrors and The Captain of inquisition are both Villains of Man of La Mancha
Dulciana becomes the Knight of the Mancha sings the impossible dream in the end
i am about to start rehearsals to play aldonza… this is… intimidating. particularly since i am 21, and I'm pretty sure all the muleteers are over 45…
DietBillie Ohmagosh, don’t be intimidated! It’s the best role ever!!! Just make sure you communicate with your director and choreographer if you feel unsafe. Have a blast, my dear!
thanks :) i most definitely will (and your portrayal was very inspiring, so thanks for that too)

Which version is this? DQ's accent is a little hard for me to understand but l do love his voice :)

Oof, a lot of decent things, but the introduction for the muleteers was not one of them.
Does anyone know what Don Quixote was being put on trial for?
He placed a lien on a Church door / he foreclosed on a Church... a no-no.
is that woman playing Aldonza Donna Murphy? sounds an awful lot like her
Krissy ummm...I’m pretty sure that’s the best compliment I’ve ever received 💖
IMOHO they should have just let the orchestra perform the overture without all the onstage shenanigans which were over done and distracting.
Yes.

We’re doing a play called girl of La Mancha. It’s a modern twist of man of La Mancha and it’s a comedy.
can i have the windmill scene timestamp
I read the play for lit. Thanks
For lit????????
I have a question,, is Sancho the only governor in this play?

When is the intermission for this?
Oliver G. We took intermission after Impossible Dream and then opened the 2nd act with a reprise
Thank you so much! I’m doing a history project on this.
In that case I should tell you that the show is written without an intermission.
Oooooh..... Well thank you very much. 🤔
No intermission.
if anyone here from mrs king and this sucks
Beautiful story of chivalry and purity and decency which is a rarity today! Trump 2024! This could be your theme song DJT!
That is not what it's about 😭
Nor is it what Trump is about!
@@jonrupp98 i dont know what trump is about but decency is not what the book or the musical about
Oh... it;s the MAN OF la Mancha.....
It is. It's also "it's", not "it;s" and there is only one space between "Man" and "of"... "of" is also lowercase. If you want to troll, be flawless
