This song is about the humanity's very long fight against the unavoidable extinction. Damn, they are fighting 1500 years. The last "human", Emil fight much longer.
I actually reposted this video in February last year since when it got taken down a second time. Square Enix striked my channel but it was worth it. They did upload one under the Square Enix topic channel but it’s not exactly the same one so that’s disappointing. Update: apparently the strike didn’t disappear because I need to do something called copyright school. So much for waiting.
The most haunting part about this song is that you can understand the lyrics. If you know why, you know why. English/Japanese is not the language that is actually spoken in the game, every Gestalt speaks a mutated form of the language they knew a thousand years back -- this is why every song in the game is in the Chaos Language, it's the mutations of all the languages over the period of a thousand years. I interpret this only track being in English as the last remnant of humanity's original echoes/cries before they inevitably go extinct due to the relapses in Project Gestalt and leaving behind the whole story of how it all happened (references to Ending E of Drakengard in the first verse) to how it ended (reference to Shadowlord's death in the last two lines marking the end of humanity).

That is a beautiful song too. But you can't measure the two songs because they are two different settings despite the theme is the same. Unfortunately Nier Replicant has very sad ending instead of Nier which shows the seeds of hope.
