I left the area a long time ago - and am old now ( though I dont feel it until I look at things like this). My great grandfather and my grandfather were boatmen on the canal and travelled the Delph, Stourbridge and Dudley canals a lot. My grandfather looked after the horses in those stables. I had great uncles who worked for Webbs glass. I had an uncle who worked for Doultons which also like the buildings in the video banked onto the canal as did many other factories. I left before they built the Merry Hill shopping Centre. I remember the Round Oak steel works when it was still a steel works and the Merry Hill farmland. But it was really nice to see your video of how things are now.
Thanks for sharing that bet was amazing to see what was like back then shame most of area was lost like merry hill farm the steel.works can imagine that was big across the canal 😊
That arm of canal at 24 mins is the original route of the canal. If you have a look just past the end, you will find the original top lock. Because of subsidence, they built another flight of locks which is now used.
When you were on the bridge , and you mentioned the basin to your left, you should have looked just at the end, you would have seen a old abandoned lock
That's up by the blue brick pub if you Google that there's a side street further up that takes you down by some industry and it's in front I'll find the postcode later 😃
