One of the best intro scenes in gaming history. Also how does this cutscene look like it was made today 16 years later. Its actually insane how damn good this looks
I love how Eggman literally unleashes all firepower he has on Sonic. He turns all the canons mechs and the entire armadas canons directly on to his own hanger bay in the hopes of something, anything hitting Sonic. Even his own mech that perfectly replicates his gestures in real time has multiple back up plans. He has the machineguns, then the rockets then the hookarm if everything fails and then on top of that has the escape pod for good measure and the funniest part is EVEN on top of ALL that, he knew perfectly well that would most likely fail and would instead lead Sonic to the power drain room. The cinematography is also really impressive, when Eggman begs Sonic he is below him camera angle wise for the entire duration and once Sonic loses the upper hand and Eggman gains control Sonic is placed beneath him showing how the roles have changed. Another really awesome thing is that Sonic only talks when he believes he has won and it's over which raises the stakes higher in the action as it shows Sonic actually trying to win.
This cutscene hits so hard when you realize that Eggman’s actually baiting Sonic throughout the fight. Everything, the robots, the prototype, pretending to run away, was all essentially a distraction to force Sonic into his super form and lure him into the cannon for the plan. This is one of the few times we genuinely see that Eggman is in control of the situation and is playing Sonic like a damn fiddle like the 300 iq mastermind he’s supposed to be.

every time i rewatch this, it only makes me want a movie based off of this game more than ever
one can only dream...
I really like this cutscene it was really cool since I really love this game
Still, in my opinion, the best sonic voice actor.
why were 2000s and early 2010 video game cutscenes so high quality
It’s pretty bizarre that ever since this opening, no other sonic game has surpassed this quality of cutscene
2:49 This is honestly terrifying,
I still don't understand why Sonic Frontiers doesn't have CGI cutscenes.
Because they don't exist
Could've made a movie out of this game. Had a new approach with the werehog, new side character, and brand new locations.
Imagine how many years this opening rendered? 0_0
in 2008
That machine was strong enough to restrain Super Sonic, you'd think Eggman would capitalize off of that technology 😆
Lmao I was just thinking that! Not to mention it neutralizes the chaos emeralds in that moment! That thing is on some straight up master Emerald tier levels of OP, and ol’ egghead never even thought to use it again.. 🤷♀️🤷♀️😅😅☠️☠️
@@the.bloodless.one1312Instant way to win: Trap Sonic as done here, zap him, then half way through, go full "Shadow the Hedgehog" and just load a bullet into him. Bang.
This Opening and Sonic Adventure 2 😍😍
Sonic Wars: The Force Unleashed
Still the most goated Sonic opening of all time. Glad to be born in the same time frame as this game
They just don't make them like this anymore.
I hope with the success that Frontiers had they'll go back to these big budget productions for the games
Idc what anyone says this looks better than half the scenes in the sonic movie
5:06
Sonic the Werehog: "You've really...gone and done it this time, Eggman."
I like how this opening shows the great qualities of both sonic and eggman
the most premium, top-tier, unrivalled 6 minutes of Sonic that has ever graced mankind
2:52 you should’ve ran while you had the chance
What I’d give to watch one of the sonic movies with Unleash’s plot
This is how we all expected the sonic movie franchise to be bc this CGI was incredible for it being 2008
This belongs in a movie
