    This episode really captures the childhood experience of your mom forcing you to have play dates with the weird awkward kid who you aren't comfortable with letting him touch your stuff, but then you go over to his place and discover that he has a Nintendo 64, so you make more of an effort and eventually get on better with him.

      There's an oddly sweet depth to Wiggum by making Ralph his son. Compared to most of the other parents in the show who are somewhat abrasive and negligent in spite of caring, Wiggum seems to dote over him very openly and be ever patient with his dimness.

  • @wideband
    @wideband 5 років тому +86

    It's actually frighteningly easy to look up cities/countys/states that have universal fire keys. While they aren't going to open every locked door, a lot of times they will open a fire box that will then have the keys for the door inside them. Mainly on large apartment buildings. It's a large security gap that is actually written into our fire and safety codes. It's funny that I just saw a presentation on this subject and then you reviewed the episode with the "master" key.

Also about parents worries of the kids social life.I dig it, it's the first time Ralf wasn't just there (except for that one where he though he was in love for Lisa). Not to mention the hypocrisy of society since half has mental problems yet every one kind of ignores..

    It's funny to me that this was something hidden to me and just a throwaway line before but now so many videos later there is new light shed on the video.

My first bed out of a crib was a bunk bed, but my brother and sister always had their own beds and in their own rooms. Not sure who decided it, and I didn't mind for many years, and only once or twice did I use the bottom bunk to sleep, I was always the top bunk. Most of the time my bunk bed was a storage space for books and toys. Same thing for my cousin who was an only child.

    Sometimes it feels like you only make 60 second reviews of episodes to justify an extra seconds review.
    You always get an extra seconds review done directly after a 60 second review, like you work on them at the same time. I think I speak for everyone when I say you shouldn't feel held down by 60 second reviews.
    TL;DR, do an extra seconds whenever you feel like it, not just after a 60 second of the same episode.

      Don't worry, I don't feel held down by them... I just think they're a fun writing exercise, boiling down all the points I want to make into 60 seconds. And the shorter runtime lets me be a little more aggressive and experimental with the editing. I write most of the Extra Seconds concurrently with the 60 Seconds review, but usually add/subtract stuff based on initial feedback arguments or if I don't have an ending yet. I kinda like the idea of doing this little "appetizer" review, in case people want to go watch the episode before the Extra Seconds review.

    Huh, this made me think about an episode featuring Ralph and Nelson having to buddy up for an episode. Nelson's still able to convey that rough bully character pretty well, but I could see his character depth playing well with Ralph's shtick as an accessory to a Bart or Lisa focused episode. Maybe some extracurricular activity puts a bunch of the kids together regardless of grade and Ralph and Nelson wind excelling at whatever it is? I dunno. TheRealJims just brings out an interest in Simpsons stories in me.

      that would be fun, Bart and Lisa would probably end up getting paired together but I think it would be interesting having Bart paired up with either Louis, Richard or Wendell, then Lisa could be paired with either Sherry or Terry and the other twin is paired with Janey.

    I love Ralph Wiggum's non-sequiturs as much as the next guy, but you do have a point in that ever the writers decided he was just a character that dispenses non-sequiturs he hasn't been able to achieve the depth he did in earlier Simpsons episodes, where he still managed to be funny and goofy while also showing another side to him. It's rather sad, and at this point I don't think there's any going back for him.

    They should have made the key a lock pick instead and Ralph was the only one who knew how to use it, he surprises the group and when they ask him how he knew how to do that he’s picking his nose and says something like “lock picks get boogers out of doors” the he has the floor to impress the group and develop

    I've seen skeleton keys like that - usually owned by the police department of a small-enough town that they use standardized locks, so there's a "master" key to open most of them. Seriously. I've actually seen it. This is a case of reality being unrealistic.

    What is ralphs best quality? I actually thought it was really endearing when he started playing as his made up character Wiggle Puppy. I think the episode would have wrapped up well if Ralphs imagination somehow saved the day

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, I agree. It kinda felt like they were leading toward something like that, with Ralph wandering into that prison. Maybe Ralph's imaginative way of thinking impresses Bart or he finds it fun or something.

      It makes sense he acts as a dog and lives in his imagination, as he was shown to be a good actor in “I Love Lisa.” Also makes sense, because he’s shown as having no friends, so I’m sure he plays make-believe in his head constantly.

    do a video about the number 23. if you haven't noticed, it is featured in many, if not all episodes. also, 42 (the answer to the ultimate question, obviously) for starters, the simpsons address has been both 723 and 742 evergreen terrace. just a lil detail i noticed watching several episodes in a row.

    To be honest, we're forgetting that there's nothing wrong with having no other feeling but sympathy or pity for a stupid 10 year old child. How much more depth to the character can you really expect?

    not only did I totally believe that the police had a master key based on this episode, but i also believed that the key to the city was the same deal. Whats the point in giving you the key to the city if there's parts of the city you are locked out of, afterall?
