Absolutely true! We need to be inspired by our physical and socio-economic environments and even our cultural traditions. Mpesa is a great example of African socialism for lack of a better word, where everyone, regardless of their standing in the community is taken care of. Another example is our SACCOS, microfinance entities and our spirit of harambee or pulling together, also very traditionally African. They enable us to tackle huge challenges as a unit, ensuring as much as possible, that no one is left alone to deal with difficult situations, at all levels of society. Of course things are not perfect but our models of progress must be based on our own environments and experiences, not European, not Asian etc. We can borrow what we need from the global environment because we cannot escape the times we live in, but the models must fit and address our lifestyles, our challenges and our visions. Thank you for this vid.
Pple forget that had it not been Michuki probably it would not have been sanctioned. Banks were fighting it's implementation & Michuki was taxed with leading a team to study it which he did and made it's commendation and gazetted it within 24 hrs to the chagrin of the banks.
mpesa solved alot of our problems like quieng in post offices to send n recieve money..cut off over relying on banks n other delays...created huge scientific money revolutions in banks and the society,
next get to study kenya cooperative saccos one of the most effective and best in africa at nomber one n nomber 7 in the world with latest inovations n transformations..infact they turning out to be optional banks with all banking services just within local area. i wish other african countries can make study on it to replicate in thair societies.
There was, as far back as 1995-96 a World Bank position on the possibility of mobile money and financial inclusion, but not even the mobile system had penetrated to the extent it did. When in May 2000, Vodafone Group PLC of the United Kingdom acquired a 40% stake and management responsibility for the company they appointed Michael Joseph as CEO and experimenting with this concept was one of his KPI.
@@Nalisuitsvlogs You mentioned an imaginary guy that doesn't exist. No one knows that guy you mentioned -- no one has ever seen him anywhere. No TV interview or even photos of him exists, yet there are no records of him being dead. No publications (written by him) about MPESA exists. Even worse, Safaricom has never mentioned that name in relation to MPESA. Don't you find it weird that an inventor of something so transformative such as MPESA would choose to be this mysterious? Steve Jobs didn't go into hiding when he came up with an iPhone 😆
