It really depends on the amp that is driving them. Try using a high quality chipset for your headphones. I use my on-board MB audio, went from a msi z77a-g45 (sandy bridge) to a asus z170-pro (skylake), and the difference in audio quality with the chipsets are night and day.
Also, the bit rate of the audio file you are listening to can make a difference as well.
Don't blame the headphones before you test the chipset that is driving them.

Now the sound seems to be debatable. Everyone has their own opinion. I just wish i could find the specs on the skullcandy crusher wireless.
Personally it comes down to whether u want to take your headphones outdoors or not. If you want to travel with your headphones, then i would pick skullcandy because it is foldable and u get a travelbag unlike sony's.
I have bought skullcandy crusher wireless a month ago, without planning to buy any headphones at all. Just seen and tested them in a mall and bought them at once. I had skullcandy mix master 2.0 before. New crushers are amazing and you have a feeling of having real subwoofers on your head. I recommend them to everyone.

Hey Foxtrot, I don't own a pair of the original Crusher so I can't give you a comparison unfortunately. I have messed with them in the store and I can tell you that the build quality and feel is much better with the wireless. I may have to run out and pickup a pair to compare.

by the way the crusher wireless can change to the previous track by holding volume down two times. double press the power button brings up siri. Awsome battery life. bass is no joke in these.

i tested both i honestly thought was going with sony i got to test both n was not a fan of skullcandy but honestly 40 hours of music play sold me 😅 plus the ultra bass got me lit 🔊🔥🔥🔥🔥 i ended up getting the skullcandy

I prefer the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless over the Sony MDR XB950BT.
Sony MDR XB950BT:
1- You can't use the Extra Bass while wired.
2- 20 hours.
3- Extremely thick ear cups.
Sony MDR > feel's like you rocking a thick padded sofa on the head.
Skullcandy Crusher Wireless :
1-You can use the Extra Bass while wired.
2- 40 hours.
3- Comfortable size ear cups.
4- Headset folds.
Skullcandy > Slick looking and comfortably fit's just right on the head.
LRRPEXILE Skullcandy crushers also have terrible material, great sound and bass no doubt but the material is straight trash they'll last you a few months, but constant usage seems to wear them down until they start cracking, I'm on my second pair

The hinge holding the earcups to the rest of the headphones are realy thin and inside they are only about 1-2 milimeters thick
The swivel hinge thingy looks thikker then it is becuse of the way its made

Nick Capaccio, it seems that the ps4 controller has problems with cans in general. My Sony MDR-10RBT's mic doesn't get recognised either.

Nick Capaccio, it really is. I figured that the mic wasn't getting power through the headphones so I thought I'd try to connect it via Bluetooth. But it turns out the ps4 doesn't support it?
That's right, the Xbox One and PS4 aren't compatible with regular bluetooth headphones. Another commenter pointed out that you can buy a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the Dual Shock 4, you can find it on Amazon if you search for PS4 bluetooth adapter.
Wow! Great A/B comparison review between two very popular and quite similar sets of headphones. Before seeing your video, I had little interest in either sets. Afterwards, you convinced me to check out the Skullcandys. If I had to identify why, I'd say it was because you kept my interest with a smooth and brisk pace, you were very detailed, you presented the info objectively, and in the end, I trusted your opinion! There are 3 complaints I have with the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless headphones.
The first is comfort. I wear these things for hours at a time, yet I find that after around an hour they become extremely uncomfortable and actually make the top of my head and also the front of my ears start to hurt. The rubber headband has already worn out so it provides no padding at all (I got these I believe on the 18th December), and the padding on the ear cups while still quite spongy just really isn't that comfortable, and never really was.
The second complaint is the bass slider. Personally I think that it's just not fine enough to be able to choose the perfect level of bass that I want. In some cases just the slightest touch on the bass slider will completely mute the bass, or go the other way and blow my head off which isn't what I want. There's also loads of wobble to the slider and it doesn't stay fixed in place which is quite annoying.
The third and final complaint is overall build quality. These headphones have been treated super delicately and with a lot of care since I got them, never dropped them or thrown them down on anything, never sat on them, they've been treated perfectly. Yet already the hinges are loose and there's loads of wobble in the headphones themselves. For the price you pay you expect more of a premium build quality from the product, and while it certainly does look the part, it just doesn't feel like a premium product and instead feels like some cheap standard headphones.
Despite these complaints though, I can't actually complain about the quality of the sound. Sure I could wish for a bit more oomph in the mids and a bit more clarity in the highs, but then again those aren't the focus of these headphones. I bought these because I wanted to experience super strong bass and lows, and that's exactly what I've gotten. The bass on these truly is superb and I would actually compare it to having a small guitar amp on each ear when the slider is turned up high, so if bass is something you're after then definitely there's nothing more I'd recommend than the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless.
I do wish they were more comfortable though.

Man, thanks for the video. My pair of crushers will be here on Friday, and man I can't wait. I'm hearing nothing but good things about these. Today, I actually found a blu ray player that supports Bluetooth which is very rare. I would think more blu ray players would have bluetooth connectivity due to how many bluetooth headphones are on the market.

The bass boost on the Sony ones is not off when it's plugged into the aux chord. Only when it's Dead. If you leave it turned on while plugged in, then the bass boost will still work.
Awesome review, I had the Sony 950 while I purchased the Crusher's and yeah big difference. The crusher has INSANE BASS especially with heavy metal, the drums sound great and the clarity in the treble sounds great. The sony 950 doesn't produce either of those points and sounds more flat and muddy with bass boost on. BUT, the Sony's MURDER the Crusher's in the Mid-bass, just listen to "Put On" by Young Jeezy, it's laughable that the midbass doesn't shine on the crusher's

Smoove they sound balanced with some bass, not much. The mids and highs sound good, but the treble can use a bit of a push.

I have used both of the headphones. Skull candy bass is something u will find so rare even in premium divisions. But the mids clarity is little bit better in Sony's. I'm happier with skullcandy

I have crushers for around 6 months and i m totally satisfied in each and every factor i use them 5 hrs a day and they sound amazing and bass is lit ...i keep bass at 20% thats enough for me .40 fucking hours of battery life and much more to say ...go for crusher you wont regret

The Skull candy has adjustable bass, but I think the Sony headphones sound better overall.
im not sure about that, but opinions. The sony's sounded pretty bad turned up, the mids and highs were muddy with good bass. But the crushers blew me away when I turned it up, Everything sounded nice and clear with that lovely treble.

Using Sony for years now, including the XB950BT, and it's really a bummer when Bass Boost is not working with the cable. And tried Skullcandy Crusher borrowing from a friend, the MAX BASS is definitely off the roof compared to Sony. If you like that tingling sensation in your earlobes, Crusher is the way to go. I wonder how their Mic performance compared...
Skullcandy has better microphones
First of all, great job on the review, Nick, very informative and well done. I wanted to offer my input as I got to experiment with both headphones, hopefully it will help others with their choice. In a nutshell, I kept the Sonys. The main reason, as mentioned in a previous comment, was the comfort. I find the Sonys much more comfortable both on top of my head and on my ears. The Crushers were too tight, stiff and uncomfortable on my ears even after a short period of time (my head is maybe slightly larger than average adult) and were particularly sore on the outside of my ear. The inside of the Sonys actually angle back towards the back of the ear (this was a helpful note I found in another review) and that made a big difference for me as far as ear comfort goes. Of course this feeling will differ for everyone, so definitely try out both if you can. Another important factor for me was the mechanism to fast forward and rewind. The Sony has a simple slider that very effectively does the trick with a quick flick. The Crushers require a 3 second press of the volume up or down buttons to change tracks, which proved a little too annoying for someone who changes tracks very frequently. As far as the slider on the Crushers go, I agree it's a really neat feature, but I never really moved it beyond around 10-20%, which essentially matched the default bass level of the Sonys. The Bass Booster on the Sonys does get pretty muddy and is not really essential unless you want a bit of brain pounding. The Crushers do sound clearer with max bass than the Sonys, but I would never go that high. As far as sound quality goes, the Crushers were a little better, probably around 10-15% clearer on vocals (even with the Sony sound adjusted to optimize), but the Sonys still have a really "fun" sound and are a pleasure to wear. So if you like the fit and will use the bass slider, the Crushers are definitely a great choice with slightly better/clearer sound (to my ear), but for me the overall comfort, track selector and (still) great sound along with the cheaper price made the Sonys my choice. i have the original crushers and love them. they have rea)y good high end quality as well as low end but the slider makes me love them. im deffinately wanting the wireless
Yeah the Wireless are fantastic and a huge jump up from the original. The bass slider is now something I'd like to see on every pair of headphones, I don't always want deep bass and I like having it there when I want it.
One thing about the Sony’s too is that the plastic connectors that connect the headband to the earphone go down towards the earphone like normal, but then curve OUT before connecting to the headphone. That part is what makes the Sony’s so susceptible to breaking because the swiveling parts make it so the direction that the pressure hits the connector varies depending on the angle that you have the headphone swiveled and causes it to break easily because the curved-plastic connector isn’t well supported from pressure in certain directions. Also, when you grab both headphones and stretch them slightly to go over your head, it’s not only going to put pressure on that curved connector but it will put torque on it as well, in a direction that it’s not supported for.

I just purchased the Wireless Crushers and I've had the Sony's before and sold them. I like the Crushers better because of the slider because I like the bass around 30-50 percent as well vs the Sonys when you have the bass boost off they sound flat but when you had it on, it sounds like too much bass, the slider on the Skullcandy is perfect.
I agree, 30 percent seems like the sweet spot with plenty of extra bass if you want it.

I noticed the crushers had very dirty bass, the bass slider seems to emphasize 45-50hz and leave other lower or higher frequencies super quiet, plus i found myself forced to adjust the bass slider almost with every song and different scene in the movie... Tap on the head band and you are greeted with BONG, tap on the cup, BING and make a bong bong bong noise with every step I took. I purchased these one week ago, and returned them instantly. On the other hand I have had my sony XB950BT's for almost 2 years now and I'm always blown away with how good they sound all the time. SONY are the HANDS DOWN WINNER in my book.

It doesn't have to be a good reason- marketing and availability are probably the most usual reason for the preference- but a reason is something you should know. On the Sony BTs the bass boost actually DOES work with the cord IF the battery isn't dead, but as stated most times you truly don't the bass boost. You tend to THINK you need it because its available but I've forgotten to turn it on millions of times and didn't really miss it.

Idk about the skull candy but I loved my mdr, I just hated the price the Cushing keeper getting lose and for something thats 200 I expect it to be great. but the bass was good, it was better when u used songs not downloaded to ur phone because u know free music changes some stuff sometimes but when I would go to UA-cam and bass was just great

One point though, the Crusher is quoted to weigh 1.5lbs, or approx 680 grams, whereas the MDR XB950BT is quoted as 280 grams. So, the SK weighs about two and half times more than the Sony. That is a hell of a difference. Did you notice this when comparing the headphones?

Thanks Nick, for some reason, online (including amazon) they state the weight at 1.5lbs, unboxed. I couldn't find the weight on SK's own site. So, it's good to know it's more or less the same as the Sony.
The Crusher Wireless are impressive but the Sony XB950BT offers a wider soundstage thanks to the earcups (also really responsive to eq adjustments) and offers nfc as a connection method. The Crusher Wireless are more appealing if you like Skullcandy's sound signature and that 40 hour battery life the Crusher Wireless offers over the XB950BT's 20 hours.

I have the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless, infact I'm using them typing this. I have mixed feelings towards them. One of which being the bass, it's way too overwhelming and artifical. I have the bass slider set to the minimum as it completely ruins the song anything above 20 percent. I may have to return these headphones.
This is what I'm thinking, my cousin has a pair of the sony's and they just felt, fake on bass on some songs, perhaps the crushers are better in this regard?

Found a cool way to keep the bass working while plugged in. Turn on bluetooth mode then plug them into the computer. Sets headphones as wired and keeps headphones on and bassboost stays on. Amazing headphones. Tested these and Skullcandy Crushers in store and Sony MDR-XB950BT have a more full sound.

When you tested these, did Sony not have the Headphones app that allows you to adjust the bass settings? It makes a big difference. And it was made to look like that you can adjust the bass on the Skullcandy and not on the Sony. You can. I knew In the first minute that this was going to be a Skullcandy-heavy video, and at the end was like "Wow,, he picked the Skullcandy's? What a surprise." I've heard both, and have no idea why some people see a big difference. Just my opinion.

I got both of these and a pair of beats studios.And i think the Crushers are the best earphones i have ever owned in my life.I've heard 3k and 4k earphones that are better.But at this price range they can't be touched.I had a pair of Hesh 2's and a pair of 3's over the year's.And the bass with the crushers is the best i ever heard in earphones it's like you can hear the same hums as in a good car system.I fell in love with Skull Candy that day in Best Buy.And i won't ever cheat on that bitch again we're married now💯%😂

I am fortunate to have both, Sony Mdrx950 for me is better, having a dedicated volume control as well as skip, pause button etc Is very convenient. Bluetooth range I think is much better also for Sony.
Bass slider for skullcandy crusher is a good feature as well as 40 hours battery life.

I bought me a pair of sonys and I did not enjoy them as much since 3 months later the rotating part of the headphones broke and was unfixable but then I bought me a pair of skullcandy and I was very satisfied
I've smeen some other people mention the swivel part broke as well, which pair did you go with?
the thing with the crushers tho is i find that the vocals are way more muffled and the claps are too high i find. another thing is that i find it only does good bass around 35-45hz, other then that the bass is so minimal and it’s a weird feeling hearing crazy bass when it’s mid range but once it gets to high pumping bass you almost get none.

i shit you not i was in the same situation last week. i ended up picking the crushers. the sony are not compact. but they are very comfortable. the crushers are the best because of the base. I would even buy crushers over beats...yes i had beats also. the 400 dollar ones.
Nick Capaccio bought them today and they're amazing, Sony gets a 2/5 and the crushers get a 5/5 imo

ejfmdawg I hope your local Best Buy doesn't have a broken display. I work at my local Best Buy and Skullcandy gave us a broken display. I bought the crusher wireless anyway though since I previously owned the word version. The wireless crushers are actually better than the wired version.

Just listening to them in the store the Crushers sounded extremely muddy. Maybe the store pair was defective? Funny enough the Hesh 3 they had next to them had the same problem. I don't really know, but the Sony's sounded leagues better from what I heard. Yea the Sony's had a darker veil to the sound, but the clarity wasn't even close on the two between the Sony and Crushers.

I do love both headphones I'm getting the Sony xb950bt very soon and I can't wait!! But when it comes to bass i love a whole lot of bass so i wont mind either of the headphones. But the Sony loosing the bass with the cord, well it won't be a big issue for me. It already has a decent amount of bass without the boost and the battery life is great. 20hrs that's almost one day so i think loosing the bass issue won't be much of a problem to me. Nice review though i really love it its really honest and non bias i look forward to more keep doing your thing.

In my opinion, the Crusher Wireless sound better all around. Mids are pulled back on the Sony compared to the Skullcandy, and highs are more detailed on the Crusher Wireless as well, I prefer brighter headphones, so I like the Skullcandy better. The MDR-XB950BT sound great, but the Crusher Wireless sound better, not even factoring in the bass control.

I would go with the skullcandy crushers, they sound more clear a bright, but the sony's have this more dynamic deep sound!

Although he didn't mention the exact name of the reviewer when Nick mentions the 30% bass boost being right for him, it's what Rich was mentioning in his video of what the reviewer said. Seen enough reviews of them Skullcandy Crushers....I'm going to pick them up!

@@zthreetwo9874 the only catch is the headphones are so good there has to be a flaw. The hangers that connect to the headband that hold the speakers can break easily after time. My GF and I both have a pair and they broke on us within a few months. One side broke then the other side broke. I'm willing to buy another pair if the bracket can last longer than before.
I hear you on the losing the bass boost function, however, i was not buying wireless headphones to use them wired. By the time i am buying, i know how my life and routines are so i never run out of juice. I agree that on Bluetooth i have to yell abit to be heard on a call but the bass is fine. I love my bass deep, and do not enjoy using these without the boost

Around the ear, Sony also has the MDR-XB650BT which are on ear.

These were the 2 headphones I wanted to choose from because i use to have the Sony with extra bass like in this video and they broke after a year of having them. I went up to Best Buy to replace them. Mind you I’ve never had nor listen to the skull candy crushers before and I’m a bass guy, so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Everyone was saying they deliver amazing bass especially if you love music they apparently bring that subwoofer feel, so me loving music and bass I bought the crushers.... MAN! They are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I’m definitely happy I got them. When I say my volume is barley halfway up and I can feel the bass in the music already!!! Scary part is I didn’t adjust the bass yet! I will take good care of these because I hear they break easy, but I don’t regret this purchase at all. 💯💯
Bass is artificial for the skull candy
It still sounds better than most headphone's bass, just because its artificial doesn't mean it sounds bad
its just not the same Sony takes it when it comes to sound but they do have a battery flaw

Buildpucipuci02 I had the Sony's for a year and tested the new crusher's at my local best buy there's just something different to artificial bass that's not right in comparison but as I said before and take this as a warning there is a battery issue with the Sony headphones, and due to that issue I ran through two pairs and now own a pair Of Bowers & Wilkins P5 wireless.
did you know that these headphones promise you the type of bass that you get at concerts , at cinemas etc. And honestly I have the skullcandy crusher right now. And it has some issues. It only uses the bass when it hits some frequencies. That problem was fixed by these. 2x A batteries are annoying. Another problem fixed. NOT NEEDING BATTERY WHILE USING BASS. another problem fixed. Better sound quality. Another problem fixed. Better bass driver. Another problem fixed. Better build quality. ANOTHER PROBLEM FIXED. Idk what you want else from these. For me all I hate is the wires. But the rest is amazing. I tested the sony xb 950 but not bluetooth. And they weren't that amazing. I really wanted the bass boost. But it only comes with wireless and they didnt put that ofc because it would be easy to steal. idk I would still go with the skullcandy crusher wireless
Skull candies wireless are super clear and basey very natural base too because of the shells acoustics u can hear the natural base acoustics if u tap them on your ear also they give u an experience like ur in car with massive speakers it's very intense if that's what u like
