Nah, I went through the same aka making bad choices. My vice was alcohol, and some nights I would drink excessively. All my friends warned me, but I didn't listen. It wasn't until I caught a sexual battery charge, lost my spot in my graduate program, lost both of my jobs, alienated my family, spent tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, got incarcerated, and went flat broke did I finally admit to myself that I had a problem and sought help. Like me, Ja is a grown man and is making his own decisions, so he has to decide to change on his own. You hate to see it, but it's going to take something drastic for him like what I went through to learn.
