Nice, thorough review. I’ve used this support for several years now, both my classical guitars and even my electric guitar when I want to play in a more traditional classical position. After years of trying different supports, this one meets all of my needs. Plus, the ability to raise the guitar basically as much as you want has allowed the elimination of a foot stool, which has improved back/hip alignment and comfort for me.
You've aroused my curiosity. I don't see how you can support a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul with this, because their body is much too thin. Adding sufficient hard extra material in between without damaging the finish doesn't seem like a simple job to me.
@@mer1red We also have the -JZZ model which is intended for thinner bodied guitars (think hollow-bodied jazz guitars or electric-acoustic guitars). Please check our website for specs and the narrowest width. The Strat will be problematic due to the sculpting of the body; the 'Paul - measure the body thickness to see, since they vary. But you could probably make the 'Paul work even if you needed a little bit of extra cushioning, such as those rubber stick-on bumpers. I hope this helps.

@@woodsideguitars1187 I have a JZZ model which I use on my GB10 Ibanez archtop. I love the support, but my one one reservation is that the actual "grips" are not quite long enough and one of them is right on the edge of the guitar's binding which concerns me. Would you consider making the grips just a little longer so they can reach up above the binding? I feel that many archtop owners would appreciate that and word will get around the various forums. Thanks for your consideration and ongoing improvements.
Much gratitude to you for sharing your comment. I think you may have tried an earlier model - and thank you for being a brave "early adopter". We did learn a lot by getting the early versions into the hands (and guitars) of users, and sure enough - there were imperfections and issues. It's very encouraging to see you are happy the this version! Thank you for your patience and trust to try the newer version.
I'm using this support since a few months and I must say that it is excellent. No signs of damage. I'll never go back to other support types.I wish I had it sooner. I didn't know the angle block existed. One note: for smaller sized guitars (but within the range of the supported body widths) with the body tapered towards the neck it comes off a little easier.
Hmm, one thing I'll also mention is that I think the clear vinyl stuff I use actually makes it stay on even better. It's almost sticky with both of the protective materials on each other.
I needed a second support for my office (where I sometimes play or practice when I have some time), and I bought this new version of the support (I have the previous version). It really is a significant improvement. I like the wider rest on the leg, it makes a big difference in the stability. The only thing I don't like about this support is that it sometimes comes off (I don't make the clamp too tight, to avoid damaging the body).
Nice to see your comment here. There is a range of clamp force that works well, as you may have seen. Too loose of course will slip off. Also, some folks put far too much clamping force, and that will slip off for other reasons (things start to flex open). You can try a little more clamping force, as it will be unlikely that you will hurt the guitar. We have had units returned badly bent from over-tightening (not often, but it has happened). Also, another tip - try to position the support so that the support pillar (ball end rod, on down to the leg rest) is as near to vertical as possible with your playing position. This will help keep the forces from prying the cradle off the guitar. Hope this helps!
@@woodsideguitars1187 Thanks. I managed to get the right amount of pressure on my guitar. I now use that woodside support only for that guitar so I don't need to adjust it each time. This works well now. I will also try to keep the support vertical, as you suggest.

The guitar support reviews are helpful because they are not cheap, and it can sometimes be a gamble grabbing one. Recently iv been using a camping stool because it brings me closer to the ground, making the classical sitting position quite accessible. And the stool fits in my bag. I tried the leather cushion to but it falls off and squeeks in recording when i tense up.
Thanks for reviewing and showing how it's supposed to work. I just received mine and I'm pretty sure the screw arrived stripped. The two grips slide freely relative to each other and turning the screw attached to the lever doesn't cause any movement. Hoping to get some help from SBM support tomorrow and get it resolved. Disappointing, since I really do want the improved grip to work relative to my Murata (I have a raised fingerboard and the Murata can sometimes slip).
Strings By Mail took care of me and shipped a replacement clamp. The support is a nice improvement on the Murata for adjustability. Just watch out that the clamp screw doesn't strip its hole.

There was a manufacturing issue that was noticed and corrected immediately, but it looks like one unit got through without our inspectors noticing it. Could you please include different sized guitars in your review? Large guitars, jumbo, concert, etc. when the player is not a giant. Maybe even have the support on the other leg.

I leave my Cling stuff on. Over the months or years there is some discolouration due to different light and lack on scuff marks but I accept it. I like my GuitarLift but I need to saw away the leg rest to make it a better shape for me. The supports are so different it's tough to compare them. I'd say this one is more adjustable but the GuitarLift is surprisingly secure feeling and of all the suction cup options it is the one that does seem to stay on during performance.
Hello, I have the first version of this and I’m wondering if I should buy the version 3. Did you notice the bigger area of the base ( the leg plate) to be more comfortable? They say its lighter but bigger. I can’t think of anything else it offers over the version 1. It looks better made I think ( different locking nuts etc
I don't think the leg plate is very noticeable but the slight angle adjustment is nice. If you are happy with yours no need to update it, but if you want some tiny wiggle room in a few areas you could consider it.
Glad you are enjoying the GS1 guitar support. There are many small improvements since that one, and most of the parts that are in the newer versions are available as update kits. This includes the newer leg rest (LGR-1). All of our accessories work with all versions of our product, as well. Check with your dealer if interested. Happy playing!

Really? Mine didn't slip as seen in the video, maybe we have different chair heights? My leg is somewhat flat-ish. Also, on jeans the leg rest seemed fine for me.

Is the blue material on the leg rest just a cloth, or is it a non-slip type material so it doesn't slip down your leg?
It helps it not slip for sure. It's kind of velvet-like.
