I'm American and have only started watching Cdramas for a year, but if you were to ask me who the most popular Chinese actor is, I would say "Xu Kai". It's obvious he works hard because he's EVERYWHERE. I can't search for a new drama to watch (granted I have a backlog of older popular dramas I haven't seen) without running into 3 or 4 Xu Kai dramas. If you ask me he IS a Megastar right now, and rightfully so. He is a fine actor and does the most convincing crying scenes... oh and yeah, being gorgeous doesn't hurt.❤

Xu Kai is the embodiment of a great actor. He really makes you believe he is truly his character come to life. I have not liked a few of the female leads but I will watch any drama with him in it just for his acting skills. If you feel he is being over shadowed by the female lead then you need to watch wonderland of love or snow eagle lord. They both have strong female leads but he outshines them both. Best choice ever was a very touching story of real family dynamics and adversity. I am excitedly awaiting his next drama. Most may not appreciate the hard work he puts in but it shows in every character he plays. Still the best actor out there.

“Ancient Love Poetry”, is one of our favorite dramas. My family has enjoyed watching this drama numerous times. The entire cast did an excellent, superb job. This drama is and will always be a true masterpiece classic. 👏💫✨⭐️🌟🤩😊💛
The reason is cause he doesn't seek the popularity route. I discovered xukai from story of yanxi palace and love all his characters portrayal, so i don't think it has anything to do with the way he portrayed these characters. He was able to show inner conflicts and deep understanding of the characters for me to follows him all these years. He gained three millions fans from ancient love poetry so that's not a small number. Those people who complained about the script usually has the same complaints that it doesn't have enough romance, so there's ÿour answer those actresses got their popularity through popular pairing, xukai pairs mostly with older actresses so their pairings are not too popular, look at wonderland of love, it was love by international fans but doesn't have a big fan base in china. Look at his pairing with chengxiao, falling into your smile gotten so popular internationally and only a failed cause of controversy in china.
I think Xu Kai is a very natural & subtle actor that’s not showy so, he, the actor, disappears & it’s the character that he’s playing that emerges! I haven’t seen such a natural talent as that since the young Leonardo DiCaprio when he was first starting out! Both being overshadowed by their beauty that obscured their acting talents. The only small bit of criticism I have is that sometimes his voice in the quieter moments can be obscured by the music or soundtrack that very often goes with those romantic quiet dialogue sequences. I think he could do animation voiceovers to help with that as actors who have done this learnt to put almost all of their acting into the voice alone. Very often a lot of the actors facial expressions & body movements come through in the finished result as voice recording is dome first with video footage then, the animators look at that as they do the animation. Xu Kai has been invited to Milan Fashion week next month in June & that’ll help his international popularity to increase. It gives a chance for European fans, at least, to actually see him in the flesh!

The trouble was his leading lady was awful in this drama. Don't forget the subject was gaming and I don't think women (who are most of Xu Kai's fans) are into gaming as much as men. She is such a hustler......I will not watch anything with her in it again!
No other actor became an overnight international sensation on their first real drama (Untouchable Lover does not count, he barely had a role in that drama) - Only Xu Kai. Not only that, but he also took the spotlight from the male lead in the drama against people who are seasoned actors when he himself was a complete unknown and inexperienced actor doing his first real role with no acting background. That shows he has true natural talent. Xu Kai is only interested in competing with himself; to be the best he can be as an actor and as a person and let everything else fall into place. He wants to create characters his fans will remember him by.
Whilst many individual characters were well played and stood out, the drama focused entirely around the FL and SML (her ex boyfriend) in the first half where ML seemed to be a secondary character. He only came through on 2nd half so it seems it was 2 dramas. Don't get me started on the mother. It was pure torture to try and finish the drama which is a shame as i like the FL and ML.
He's a great actor. Period. It doesn't matter whether he has great following or not. Doesn't mean anything actually, some actors have great following but mediocre acting... just saying. His Alaso love him and are loyal to him not because he's an idol but because he's acting skills are superb. He's "An influencive actor" just as Jing Tian described him. His acting is really believable and not forced. I personally like him because he is not afraid to "get dirty" or look ugly in his dramas.

I think falling into your smile was his turning point. As it was really the first "modern day" drama he worked on, and in the past he had only worked on period dramas that were catered to a specific audience. Similarly, he was also coined as a "mute actor" because he relied heavily on dubbing. So I think Best Choice Ever has been the real game changer as he used his real voice and was able to showcase his charms (unlike in She and Her Perfect Husband, where he played a "loser" - btw, I loved him most in this drama, which was also the first drama he used his own voice).
I truly enjoy Xu Kai’s performances and assertively look for the dramas, romances and historical vehicles that highlight him as a lead character. He’s already a megastar to me and I hope other viewers begin to appreciate his entertainment value.

A strong male role script minus the romance - romance with pretty female lead is a distraction. The audience focus moves to the FL. His gentleness is constantly overlooked as he becomes the subservient character. While this was also his character in Yanxi, the fact there was no happy ending for him left the audience wanting more for Xu Kai. We had a little glimpse of this in Royal Feast, but unfortunately that drama also had a happy mellow end. Maybe as a Fire Investigator, he will be elevated - hopefully this story does not get hijacked by a silly and pretty female lead. Let the focus just be on Xu Kai.
Xu Kai is one of my Chinese actors, I feel like in the drama perfect husband his character was put to point because it was mostly focused on the FL life and feminist. In best choices ever him and the FL did a great job but overall I got bored since it was only focusing on the mum. Drama like the legend, wonderland , arsenal military academy and ancient love poetry definitely allowed him to show his character more . I don't follow actors social live except from the drama but yet I have seen some reality show of value, and others Wich allowed them to connect with theirs fan base outside of the drama story. But overall I think celebrities in China have to do a lot to please their fan since they judge on physics so much. I leave in america and I can never miss one of Xu Kai drama. He is a great actor and tink he have more to show ❤ i can't wait for his upcoming drama.

Falling Into Your Smile should be at the top of this list. He caught many people’s attention in Yanxi Palace, but it was FIYS that catapulted him into fame outside of China. It remains one of the top 3 cdramas on Netflix, despite receiving limited promotion. And, in spite of anti-Cheng Xiao netizens, it was one of the most popular shows in China receiving billions of views. I agree that these starring with some of China’s most popular female leads, however, those leads aren’t popular outside of China. Bai Lu, Xiao Luisi, etc. are okay actresses with pretty looks, but nothing really standout. And, in best choice ever, they’re pairing him with a woman too old for the role; even in clips shown here, she looks more like an older sister than a romantic interest. If he wants to be a megastar, in China and abroad’s he’ll need to star in a FIYS 2 or pair with another female lead with whom he has undeniable chemistry.
Tbh, in my opinion, he acts better and suits a lot more for modern dramas. Ancient dramas aren't very suitable for him, unless the character really fits him. I know he prefers to act in ancient dramas, but in my opinion with his outer appearance, modern dramas are more suitable for him. When he's wearing ancient constumes, he looks too "fine and beautiful" and sometimes I don't think his looks would fit the characters he portrayed. While acting in modern dramas, like being a cold CEO or just a guy next door, his looks are just perfect for those. I can't wait for his new drama as a firefighter, I think he would be great in it. It's just my personal opinion, not saying that his ancients dramas aren't good, I enjoyed some of them but I enjoyed more of his modern dramas. When I finished watching As Beautiful As You, I thought yeahh this drama is for him. I think he gains a lot more of international fans because of this drama. I saw a lot of international youtubers posting about this drama in their channel or their twitters, which is actually very rare as many of them I know are diehard fans of kpop or kdramas.

Xu Kai is a high-quality actor and one of the rare gems in c-ent. He has a good ability to portray his emotions through his eyes and can precisely adjust his acting, demeanor and expressions for each role. His acting abilities are so excellent and transparent that the audience can read him like a book. He's a professional actor who never arrives late, never brags, is always nice to the production team, and cares for supporting roles. He is also a nice guy who cares about his fans. He's great and the real green flag.
He's big enough.... but yes, he could've gone bigger. The problem is His Nature. All good actors don't go very far... like Xu Kai, Yang Yang... They cannot be control by evil producers & such... therefore, they don't get best roles and everytime they releasing something, there's ton of backlash to suppressed their work. He is handsome, tall, slender, and charming. His physique relatively is beyond reproach - we don't care about any 6-pack ribs. Some top celebrities are social butterflies while others are not. Take notice that Chen Kun has one of the biggest follows on social media, yet he's lying low. I started watching Chinese dramas five or six years ago, and I have greatly enjoyed dramas with XuKai, YangYang, and William Chen male leads (age group of 20s to 30s) I hardly ever re-watch movies/dramas. But I re-watched Arsenal Military Academy (It's fun and serious at the same time) and Once Upon a time in Lingjian Mountain (charming!). Without XuKai's acting skill in Falling Into Your Smile, it isn't worth a look. I've attempted to finish watching Untamed at least 3 times. Megastar Wang YiPo was very cute. Again beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and one person's treasure is another person's thrash. Just my 2Cents.
This is another rare actor whose talent and personality is amazing. He is really coming into his own, in other words I believe we have yet to see what this actor is really capable of, given the right script and co star I think this one will surprise us all. Because, some producers capitalized on Xu Kai's popularity after the Story 0f Yanxi Palace opposite Wu JinYan. He had been working on too many projects with different leading ladies that does click. Producers should have produce a follow-up project for Xu Kai and Wu JinYan to capitalize on their success and chemistry. Xu Kai and Wu JinYan's develop genuine friendships that made them comfortable with each other thereby developing chemistry.
True, as Xu Kai said in an interview he supports his parents financially so he has to work hard. But, the downfall of working on too many projects sometimes the performance is affected. Some of his works had bad reviews even though he is a good actor.

I think Xu Kai is a very natural & subtle actor that’s not showy so, he, the actor, disappears & it’s the character that he’s playing that emerges! I haven’t seen such a natural talent as that since the young Leonardo DiCaprio when he was first starting out! Both being overshadowed by their beauty that obscured their acting talents. The only small bit of criticism I have is that sometimes his voice in the quieter moments can be obscured by the music or soundtrack that very often goes with those romantic quiet dialogue sequences. I think he could do animation voiceovers to help with that as actors who have done this learnt to put almost all of their acting into the voice alone. Very often a lot of the actors facial expressions & body movements come through in the finished result as voice recording is dome first with video footage then, the animators look at that as they do the animation. Xu Kai has been invited to Milan Fashion week next month in June & that’ll help his international popularity to increase. It gives a chance for European fans, at least, to actually see him in the flesh!

The trouble was his leading lady was awful in this drama. Don't forget the subject was gaming and I don't think women (who are most of Xu Kai's fans) are into gaming as much as men. She is such a hustler......I will not watch anything with her in it again!
No other actor became an overnight international sensation on their first real drama (Untouchable Lover does not count, he barely had a role in that drama) - Only Xu Kai. Not only that, but he also took the spotlight from the male lead in the drama against people who are seasoned actors when he himself was a complete unknown and inexperienced actor doing his first real role with no acting background. That shows he has true natural talent. Xu Kai is only interested in competing with himself; to be the best he can be as an actor and as a person and let everything else fall into place. He wants to create characters his fans will remember him by.

Whilst many individual characters were well played and stood out, the drama focused entirely around the FL and SML (her ex boyfriend) in the first half where ML seemed to be a secondary character. He only came through on 2nd half so it seems it was 2 dramas. Don't get me started on the mother. It was pure torture to try and finish the drama which is a shame as i like the FL and ML.

I think falling into your smile was his turning point. As it was really the first "modern day" drama he worked on, and in the past he had only worked on period dramas that were catered to a specific audience. Similarly, he was also coined as a "mute actor" because he relied heavily on dubbing. So I think Best Choice Ever has been the real game changer as he used his real voice and was able to showcase his charms (unlike in She and Her Perfect Husband, where he played a "loser" - btw, I loved him most in this drama, which was also the first drama he used his own voice).

A strong male role script minus the romance - romance with pretty female lead is a distraction. The audience focus moves to the FL. His gentleness is constantly overlooked as he becomes the subservient character. While this was also his character in Yanxi, the fact there was no happy ending for him left the audience wanting more for Xu Kai. We had a little glimpse of this in Royal Feast, but unfortunately that drama also had a happy mellow end. Maybe as a Fire Investigator, he will be elevated - hopefully this story does not get hijacked by a silly and pretty female lead. Let the focus just be on Xu Kai.

Xu Kai is one of my Chinese actors, I feel like in the drama perfect husband his character was put to point because it was mostly focused on the FL life and feminist. In best choices ever him and the FL did a great job but overall I got bored since it was only focusing on the mum. Drama like the legend, wonderland , arsenal military academy and ancient love poetry definitely allowed him to show his character more . I don't follow actors social live except from the drama but yet I have seen some reality show of value, and others Wich allowed them to connect with theirs fan base outside of the drama story. But overall I think celebrities in China have to do a lot to please their fan since they judge on physics so much. I leave in america and I can never miss one of Xu Kai drama. He is a great actor and tink he have more to show ❤ i can't wait for his upcoming drama.

Falling Into Your Smile should be at the top of this list. He caught many people’s attention in Yanxi Palace, but it was FIYS that catapulted him into fame outside of China. It remains one of the top 3 cdramas on Netflix, despite receiving limited promotion. And, in spite of anti-Cheng Xiao netizens, it was one of the most popular shows in China receiving billions of views.
I agree that these starring with some of China’s most popular female leads, however, those leads aren’t popular outside of China. Bai Lu, Xiao Luisi, etc. are okay actresses with pretty looks, but nothing really standout. And, in best choice ever, they’re pairing him with a woman too old for the role; even in clips shown here, she looks more like an older sister than a romantic interest.
If he wants to be a megastar, in China and abroad’s he’ll need to star in a FIYS 2 or pair with another female lead with whom he has undeniable chemistry.

Tbh, in my opinion, he acts better and suits a lot more for modern dramas. Ancient dramas aren't very suitable for him, unless the character really fits him. I know he prefers to act in ancient dramas, but in my opinion with his outer appearance, modern dramas are more suitable for him. When he's wearing ancient constumes, he looks too "fine and beautiful" and sometimes I don't think his looks would fit the characters he portrayed. While acting in modern dramas, like being a cold CEO or just a guy next door, his looks are just perfect for those. I can't wait for his new drama as a firefighter, I think he would be great in it. It's just my personal opinion, not saying that his ancients dramas aren't good, I enjoyed some of them but I enjoyed more of his modern dramas. When I finished watching As Beautiful As You, I thought yeahh this drama is for him. I think he gains a lot more of international fans because of this drama. I saw a lot of international youtubers posting about this drama in their channel or their twitters, which is actually very rare as many of them I know are diehard fans of kpop or kdramas.

I hardly ever re-watch movies/dramas. But I re-watched Arsenal Military Academy (It's fun and serious at the same time) and Once Upon a time in Lingjian Mountain (charming!).
Without XuKai's acting skill in Falling Into Your Smile, it isn't worth a look.
I've attempted to finish watching Untamed at least 3 times. Megastar Wang YiPo was very cute. Again beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and one person's treasure is another person's thrash.

Because, some producers capitalized on Xu Kai's popularity after the Story 0f Yanxi Palace opposite Wu JinYan. He had been working on too many projects with different leading ladies that does click. Producers should have produce a follow-up project for Xu Kai and Wu JinYan to capitalize on their success and chemistry. Xu Kai and Wu JinYan's develop genuine friendships that made them comfortable with each other thereby developing chemistry.
