Really enjoyed your video. I am a commercial Avocado grower. Your information is pretty much spot on. Thanks for promoting the GEM. I have 7,500 trees in production as of today, and I will have an additional 9,000 trees in the ground by the end of next year. Love this variety for the reasons you pointed out on your commercial. Again really enjoyed your presentation.
What rootstock did you buy your gem on do you think gem will take over the current hass market in a few years do you grow them in mexico or cal if in cal what county ?
@@RareAvoTrees Sorry had not seen your comment, so my ranch is very rocky so I selected DUZA as my rootstock. That particular rootstock loves well drained soil. GEM can only be grown in the USA for sale in the USA. For sale out of USA they are controlled by a company out of South Africa, who by the way owns the DUZA rootstock. GEM will not replace Hass, but it is a premium peace of fruit compared to Hass, so a very good addition.
Very informative. I'd love to find a Gem tree for our garden.. Beautiful cat. There's some reason cats aren't supposed to eat avocados. I can't remember what but thought I should mention it
I've seen other video where the tree is 6-8 foot tree easily picking fruit. Other guys video online he said in the first maybe second year it was producing fruit. Some Indian guys video I think and he lives in California.
Carlos the height of your tree is determined by the space you have available to manage your light. As a grower I have them in rows, our rule of thumb is 70% of the space of the row. As an example my rows are 14' wide so I mange my tree height to be at 9 to 10 ft. hope that helps.
2018 I dissected the internet and found brokawnursery dot com replying their minimum order size is 1,000 seeds. I'm still waiting for them to be in stores.
Why is it when I go to the grocery store looking for avocados, I see some that look like Pinkerton some that look like Reed and so on and so on and they're all marketed as hass avocados from Mexico??? Not once do they say Fuerte or Bacon or Gem avocado
Because they are dishonest and want to maximize sales. Those other hass like varieties often bear more fruit than hass, and sometimes have different pick seasons so they can infiltrate the market at key times when hass is low. They tell you they are Hass because they fear you will only buy Hass at this point because it is all you know. Pretty dishonest and not honoring the variety it truly is. Wrong if you ask me,
