I've been thinking about dropping Plasma and moving to Openbox. The thing that's kept me using Plasma has been krunner. This video has really got me excited 🤣 and looking at the available modules people have made available in AUR has me convinced. I love your laid back style and appreciate how much really helpful information and encouragement you pack into your videos! Thank you!
So, here's the next subscriber to your channel. I consider myself professional Linux guy (Server), however I get a lot of value from your content as I get to know about all those desktop apps.
Thanks Steve. Made me 'reboot' my usage of Rofi on Openbox. I am not sure whether I will use that instead of my Plank but I am gonna use it the coming period anyway. Immediately changed the theme and updated my keybinding ;-) The Fancy theme from Dave Davonport shows the available modi as tabs, pretty useful to switch. Plus the most recently/most often used commands are showing up as first in the list. Keep on rocking!
Rofi changed how I use the desktop, I would never leave rofi and use desktop icons. Also for windows 10, you can press super +S open search menu to make it feel close to run prompt like rofi. I disabled desktop icons in windows 10.
There might be something within your .bashrc that is loaded from a terminal, but not your desktop session per se. That could be causing your issues. If in doubt, you can always try it in different DEs or WMs - to see if it works there.
10:06 Did you figure out the problem with the Terminal action on dmenufm not executing a new instance of a terminal when you open dmenufm via keybinding? Also happens to me
you hock me to OS world ... i love and respact your video's .. i still noob XD so around 30% off your video's i don't understand :) note that : i use google translate right now to writ this comment :) thanks you OTB ..
@@OldTechBloke thank you, the color theme is nice. Also, the icons on the top bar are clear and awesome, that' amazing. Can i find some tutorials about this in your past video? thanks!
Interesting question that got me thinking. The answer is no but I've just signed up for a gitlab account. May take me a little while to set it up but watch this space
@@OldTechBloke you can add your exclusions in the picom config file for that. But transparency is overrated anyway. I have no qualms over not using trans.
Maybe look into kvm sometime, it is a good alternative to VirtualBox for many virtual machines. Kudos for trying out Vim. Many people get settled in their ways. A cheat-sheet could help, for example to immediately know how to go to the bottom with one hotkey. Do that a few times and you remember it. You can also use pagedown in Vim. Sorry, I can't help you with scripting the audio at the moment. Luke Smith his Github page and videos might be helpful, he is handy with that.
Dmenu and rofi always seemed like a hassle to set up. Too bad the more visually appealing stuff like Albert and Ulauncher run like crap. Synapse was probably the only decent launcher with a gui worth a damn and that was never good because it was based on zeitgeist. Well, ok, KDE Plasma and Apple's Mac's do have nice and fully functional baked in launchers.
Not sure what you mean. Dmenu is pretty simple you just install it and it's done. I prefer Rofi and it's also pretty simple and much better looking than Dmenu. I used Albert before but I prefer Rofi with my own customized theme that I made.
let me congratulate you on your outstanding aesthetic sense. The Nord theme is an excellent choice :D
Thank you very much!

You can install and use krunner without Plasma

So Rofi is a DE agnostic krunner :) (I love Krunner, glad there's a more compatible option out there)

Very cool. Personally I use Albert, but rofi seems cool too.
Thanks for the share, will take a look at it after I get use to pop-shell on Ubuntu 20.04.
UA-cam can be silly, how is it that I’ve missed this video
Rofi is one of my go to apps these days
Very cool ....same concept as MacOS Spotlight
Thanks Sir, ❤❤🧡🧡

I'm now referring to Windows scripts only as barm cake files.
I used dmenu when I used i3. Rofi looks nice for that same kind of setup with keybindings set up right
21:20 it is dd to delete a line in normal mode in vim, or if you want to delete to the end of the line it is D
thanks for the tip, still getting used to it :-)
@@OldTechBloke soon it will be 2nt native

Yes I eventually found that i had to export my terminal in .profile and it worked

thanks you OTB ..
Your are welcome
LOL. Same mousepad as mine! cheers!
You call cobs barm cakes? You mad-lad. A cobbie-wobble innit a barm cake
My wife is from Coventry and she calls them batches :-)
Cross the pond here a “batch” is slang for the area between the male organ and the escape hatch.
cool, so what's your linux theme? it's fantastic!
I'm using the nord gtk theme

Could you please tell us more about Guake ? Thanks in advance
It's just a drop down terminal for gnome as far as I understand it
@@OldTechBloke Yes, and very useful. With it, U don't have to open a terminal when necessary ; just type F12 :)
@@OldTechBloke It's not for gnome only, works with other wm's also. Drop down terminal is specific for gnome.
For the newbs like me, could u do a video on how to do key bindings, please?
I could, only problem is they are different on every desktop environment. Usually there's a section in settings
Do you have github page? I would like to have a look at your dotfiles.

@@OldTechBloke Thanks a lot, Sir. Once done, please share the link. Also, are you on LBRY or Mastodon or Minds?
Why not use Ctrl+L instead of typing out "clear" in terminal?
I do now
@@OldTechBloke both are better than "tput clear"
can we terminal commands in rofi?
I don't see why not. I haven't done this but it's pretty flexible
don't you have anything like compton running for transparency? rofi might look even nicer that way :)
Yes but I turn it off for the video as it messes with the recording
Comptom is replaced by a fork (picom) these days, development of Comptom stopped.
@@OldTechBloke you can add your exclusions in the picom config file for that. But transparency is overrated anyway. I have no qualms over not using trans.
what distro is this? 5:50
It's arch
@@OldTechBloke nicely riced sir!

That config file is bloated
Hate using scripts
