I got a third rat recently because my original two’s friendship was visibly forced... they were always fighting and seemed annoyed and frustrated with each other, but when I got a third one she became best friends with one of my other rats, and I think it released a lot of tensions and now they are all super close! Best decision I’ve ever made!
@@freyjacooper9082 nah because once I got the third one, one of my original rats Bc best friends with the third one and became closer with the other original rat. They are now all very close friends
My boyfriend asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday back in April and I wanted rats so we bought two( that were being sold as snake food so feeders) and i haven’t heard them fight they groom eachother and cuddle together but really want to get another one is it okay two have a group of three but not four
3:10 “Of course you can still have one really annoying rat in the group that’s constantly pestering the other ones.” Just as she said this, my rat Nelson poked his head out of the cage and looked at me.
I have 6 snakes. 4 eat mice. 2 eat rats. I met with a guy yesterday and bought two rats from him for the snakes. I couldn’t do it. I normally buy my rodents frozen for the snakes. These two are the cutest effing rats I’ve ever seen so here I am now watching like 5 of your videos in a row looking at how to give my daughters two new pets their best life.
Aww, that's sweet. I'm not against people using feeders, but I definitely wouldn't be able to do it. I don't have rats but I do have mice and I love em! I do sometimes really want rats, but I have dogs and i know one of them would not get along with them. Rats seem like such sweethearts though and it breaks my heart when I see people reselling them in tiny cages.
I originally got 3 boys 6 months ago, unfortunately one passed away when he was only 10 weeks old, but a few days ago I brought 2 more baby boys home and I have already noticed the dynamics of the cage change. The older boys love their baby brothers and are always cuddling and playing together 🥰
I am happy with my decision to start with a pair as I don’t think I could have responsibly handled 4 babies at a time on my own without having owned rats before. It makes much more sense to me to have a rolling group as you said and I’m going to be putting myself on breeders waiting lists soon for another pair as well as upgrading the cage size etc
Hello, I have 2 mice called sugar and spice, and when I first got them I didn't realise what they actually needed, so I brought them a small pets at home cage that came with a small wheel. After about 2 months I started to learn more about mice and I started to plan what new, bigger cage I could get them. I'll admit my mum wasn't much help, she kept telling me that the cage was fine and they wouldn't sell it me if it was bad for them. She started to tell me about rotter stacks and how her mice had one when she was young, and she said that they will have loads of places to run. But I tried to tell her that they need multiple hides and hanging toys and forgeing toys, but she wouldn't listen. She also didn't listen when I told her that the wheel the mice had was far to small. But, I saved up some money and I planned out their new bin cage. I went to B&Q with my dad to get some things for the cage and he helped me build it and my mum watched. And now my mice have a lovely home. I want more mice in the future so I'll make the cage bigger for when I do get them. I love it and sugar and spice love it. None of this would have happend if I had listened to people who know about mice rather than people in pet shops. If I ever get other pets ill do all my reserch from reliable sources instead and I'll never make the same mistake again.
Yes it’s always good to learn from your mistakes it’s good that yoy put on that time into them to make them happy I can’t stop grieving on the list of my rat he was my best friend and it’s so hard rn I only have one rat bc my parents will not allow another bc we made a deal no more animals akd then my rat passed away and I really don’t want another one but I know my other boy needs him 💕
But.. I am trying so hard to resist all those rats in my local rescue/rehoming group. I don't have parents to convince, I have the room and the budget... I just worry it would become a lot to handle.
What exactly is holding you back? Five rats aren't more to handle than three :) it gets kinda chaotic with ten or more xD You have to clean a bit more the more animals you have; but the more rats, the more social interaction and activity do they have :) if you are unsure start with three or four pets.
@@thekissinkate I have one rat who is scared of everything. I've had her for months and she still will not let me pick her up. It makes it hard to handle free roam time and cage cleaning. The other two don't always get along very well (one is a jerk, the other overreacts). One of my rats is elderly and I will add more for sure when she passes, but until then, I worry about what behavior issues I would get with other rats. I keep saying I will wait until I at least solve the issue with the scared rat, but progress on that is really slow. 😥
@@kinahthecat I have a rescue who detests being handled and bites. It's taken half a year to come to an understanding with her that she can come and go as she likes if I leave the doors open. When my grumpy old rat died and I got her new baby friends she came out her shell so quickly! Seeing the new rats wanting to be handled etc gives her the confidence to let me touch her (still not pick up though). The point being, that it could be beneficial for them to have younger, friendlier rats around showing the way. She also boggled for the first time when she got her friends which made me so happy to know that she was happy
@@MawhinneyDesign that is so sweet! I am glad your girl came out of her shell with the new girls. I have come to accept that my shy girl will never become super friendly. She does occasionally climb on me during free roam, especially if she is following her sister. And she has learned not to always panic when I approach her to give her a treat. I usually end free roam time at a time when she goes back in her cage, which is not always convenient. I do keep two carrier cage out in the free roam area and I am teaching her to go in there to look for treats. Hopefully that will also help to keep things manageable.
At the end of my time having rats, I have 2 older females. One passed away a month and a half before the next, we were in the middle of the adopting process when the other passed away. I ending up switching to gerbils because I wanted to try a new rodent. They are less interactive then rats but I love them so much
as a person who has been looking into getting rats this is really help full thanks for creating such amazing content about these misunderstood animals! c=
My parents won't let me get more rats. I have 2 at the moment. They have a very large cage (your current size) with lots of toys, hammocks, and places to climb. I free roam them whenever i can and I play with them every day. I try to give them the best possible life. They are very happy and get along great. I hope this is okay :) (They are around 7 months old btw) P.S I am planning to rehome them once the other dies Also at 6:10 crumble is so cute
I have 4 females and they always want to sleep together, on top of each other. They have a really large cage with a ton of hides and hammocks, but almost always they end up sleeping together. (At the moment in their cage they have 8 hides and 4 hammocks, and 6 baskets to sleep of sit in) I defenitly think rats enjoy to live in a group.
In late 2016 my family and I adopted our first two rats. over the course of the next two years we got 6 more and I can say that rats living in groups are very happy! I now have only two rats because my other ones have passed away and my mom does not want to get more after these ones.. the ones I have now are both elderly and are still happy in a pair but I can tell that my oldest (Jazzy) misses being in a group sometimes so I also recommend owning a group of rats. :)
i just got 2 rats for the first time and they seem so happy together like there best friends already and always cuddling but glad i watched this vid to learn more
I got 2 baby girls almost 2 weeks ago and they seem to be pretty happy, they play fight and groom each others fur but I am getting another baby girl from the same breeder, she’s from the same litter and I’m hoping they recognise each other and make friends quickly, they’re all 2 and a half months old
yes! I completely agree, I started out with 2 rats, for a long time they wouldn't get out of bed unless I bribed them with treats, but as soon I introduced 3 new rats my old girls started coming out everyday and they really just changed into a happier rats. I just lost one of them yesterday, but I am glad she died with the love from her 4 friends.
As you said “younger people don’t have control of financial stuff” (or something like that) I relate I’m not gonna say my exact age but I’m in 6th grade and my mom is gonna get me rats o told her all of my research and made her an entire presentation and stuff and I told her we have to get at least 2 and I was telling her some good names and she said “wait more then 2?!” And I told her we should get 3 or 4 and she said we can’t afford all of that so she decided for me to get 2
Your point of the social dynamics is why I like bigger groups too! I also prefer odd numbered groups too. I find they do better than even numbers but that’s just my own experiences!
I have 9 rats currently, started out with adopting 3 from a lovely woman who took amazing care of them but could no longer keep them due to allergies, once those boys came up to over a year we bought two babies from the same breeder the older boys had come from, we had planned that having 5 was the maximum and we wouldn’t be getting any more until we where down to 3 rats again, until I saw a group of 4 boys on a Facebook group I’m a part of, they needed a new home, we got them and 3/4 acted as if they had never been handled or socialised with humans, one was perfectly happy being picked up, played with, petted, the other three would screech and jump over our hands, scratch and flail. So I’m assuming there was a favourite and the others never had the work out in to socialise them, they where in a ferplast furrat which in my opinion is too small for 4 rats, luckily we had another one so we stacked them, they stayed in there, next to be big cage for a week and a half until they where more okay with being held, and then we introduced them to the big boys and babies, (who themselves had only just moved into the big cage from intros, we tried the neutral space method first, as it had worked well with the previous introductions we had done, we did this with just the older boys as I felt as though it might stress the youngest too much, but they did not enjoy any part of it and would chase and scream and fight, we decided to swap their cages for a couple days and then swap them back for a couple to mix their scents, we then moved straight into carrier introductions, including the young pair, this all went smoothly and we continued with moving them up cage sizes slowly, all 9 are now living comfortably together in a pet planet ferret and rat cage, and I have recently bought another to double the space they have, they’re all boys and the younger ones will get quite big, I want them to have as much space as possible to live in and enjoy.
I had a pet rat that was so happy. Had in and out time. Did have a cat to play with and at one point he had a pigeon to play with. From my experience, I believe several ways are possible.
Rats should never be allowed to play with cats. Even the most well meaning cat with a low prey drive it just takes one playful swipe to spread something like toxoplasmosis and end up with a dead rat.
My first are a pair of very elderly females! I wanted more but the shelter I adopted from only had two females & I didn’t want to add any males! But now I also have another cage in a different room of a GROUP of four males! I love them all so much & definitely will keep in groups from now on 💕💛
Wow thanks for all the info. I have always been really into rats, and I am hoping to get some in a couple years and was thinking to start with a pair but now I know that three is the way to go!
I have four rats in a double critter nation. But I used to have two rats (not in a critter nation) then I Wanted more but I waited and my friend really liked my rats so she got rats (two) so then I was inpatient and wanted to get them from the same pet store my friend got them from because my favourite pet store didn’t have rats in (my friend wasn’t the one who bought the rats) but the pet store she got them from kept the females and males together..... so y’a one of her rats had baby’s and I was happy I didn’t buy one from that pet store (I would rather adopt now) so I took two of her baby’s and don’t worry they are very healthy and happy! It only took all four rats an hour to get along...So y’a that’s my story of how I ended up with four rats lol
That’s a cool dissertation! I just got a group of fancy mice for my dissertation about mouse water temperature preference. They’re so sweet, I’ve had rats before, but never mice. I was only allowed to get the mice because they’re for my dissertation and they’re “being rehomed afterwards” wink wink, nod nod 😂
I got lucky that my pairs in the past were good relationship wise. From now on though i’m getting three or more rats at once and only getting two as cage mates for preexisting rats :)
I owned ONE pet rat. Her name was sweet pea. She had a smaller three tier cage but got a lot of free time to run around my room. She was a happy rat and she lived five years.
I’m on my first rats! I have a really big cage and three beautiful boys. They get at least an hour out a day in my bathroom! I feel very blessed to have managed to get these boys up for adoption.
my mom says "when they pass away you cant get more rats 😡" but (assuming they live till 1-2 years) by the time one rat passes away Ill have moved out already 👍
I’m a young one just entering high-school who loves the idea of learning more about animal behavior and welfare, watching these videos are always so insightful! I truly appreciate these, it makes the future less scary and brings me motivation. Adults have laughed at me before and questioned the success of my future for wanting to study zoology. I’m loving what I’m doing now, volunteering at animal shelters & wildlife rehabilitation centers with my parent. I also provide pet services that include pet walking & sitting, I love these activities I do and I’m trying to expand my knowledge on zoology through courses I’m taking this fall! : ) I’m so happy I encountered your channel, I adore it here! Thank you for this video! 🫶🏼🦦
I REALLY want rats when I move out and I am planning on getting 3 so hopefully that will keep all my rats happy and enriched with their pals 🥰 It is very interesting though since I see a lot of people with 2.
I rescued my boy at one year who lived alone for his whole life. I tried to get a second rat but they were both very aggressive and territorial to where the second rat's biting problems completely went away once I rehomed him because he was away from my first rat. I want to try adopting a baby who is not yet territorial but I am hesitant because my rat might get stressed or be aggressive. He's so used to living alone that he does not know how to be social with other rats. My vet said it might be best to have him alone if this is the case.
It took a health scare to convince my dad it was a good idea to get more before one dies rather than after but luckily that health scare wasn’t serious and they were still at just about a year old and they accepted more babies pretty happily. But my older girls are still each others best friend even with 4 more of various ages to choose from! 🥰
My friend has rats, she started with 2 I was there when she got them and about a year later she said she got 2 more dumbo's and she said she was gonna be bonding them togheter and a few months ago she told me on of her older rats was sick and I went to have a sleepover at her house and that rat passed away when I was there, so I was there when that rat got there and left. So luckily she has got 2 rats a few weeks before and she bonded them and now she has 3 rats living the best life, :)
I have three. Only lost one boy but I know they’re about a year and a half now and it’s very nerve wracking I know they’re old boys. They’re here for a good time, not a long time ❤️
My first time owning rats one of the two babies was already sick when we adopted them and passed away two weeks later and luckily an adoption fell through and we got another boy and then rescued three more later that day! When we were eventually down to 2 we decided not to have rats anymore because my husband is allergic. Our last boy lived 3 months alone but was spoilt rotten and was played with constantly. Our rat free lives lasted for four months before my husband couldn’t help himself and adopted 3 boys, he just loves rats so much he is willing to put up with the itchiness. They are now about 8-9 months old and I would love to add some babies to our family. Our current 3 are so different from our last group and I miss having a rat that likes to cuddle, these boys have always been so timid and dislike being out of the cage.
I didn't watch until the end of the video yet, so I don't know if you mentioned this, but I've had rats for years, I still do, and I think the only thing it matter that you don't have just one, I don't think it's necessary to have a group, two are enough for them to have a good life. I have two now, but the last time I've had four, I've also had three at one time, not very different than having two. Sure, a group is great, but isn't necessary in my opinion, except if one of them dies and the other one is left alone, that's when you have a problem, that's why when you get your first rats, you're just gonna keep getting new ones when older ones pass and leave one of them behind
The problem with this is that you don't know when one of your rats is going to pass, it can happen suddenly in the middle of the night. It's not always easy to find rats from breeders / rescues who sometimes don't have any available, that rat can be alone for months while you're stressing about finding them some company, it's much easier to do this before you end up with a lone rat. According to German standards its against the law to have any less than 3 rats which is interesting as the UK and US don't even enforce single rats.
I'm getting two knew babies hopefully in a couple months, one of my girls had passed a couple months ago and due to the timing the most reputable breeder in my state closed to prevent her rats from ending up in shelters in spring because of them being gave as gifts. I have seen a big change after my girl passed in the other girls, they are a lot less like rats than before, their is less play fighting and honestly have less of a leader so they are more anxious.
I have 3 boys right now, I'm planning on getting new ones soon . They are about 7 months now but In waiting for our birds wing to get better. Hes in the smaller cage I'd need for my new boys. I haven't yet decided if I want another 3 or 2. I'm thinking I'll start with 2 more and once my boys go, I'll start getting more. I agree with the rat having a pestering playmate! My one rat data is always trying to play. Once the other boys get annoyed, they pin him and the scream you hear is awful !! 😂😂😂
I had two rats and sadly one of them passed away, he was pretty joung. Right now I have one rat only, his name is Pablo. We know that you are technically not 'allowed' to have only one rat but he seems pretty happy, we let him walk around the whole house, he jumps on our bed, and when he wants he can come back to his Cage/Villa he can do it whenever he pleases, the cage its always open, sometimes we leave the house and we find him playing on our bed. He seems pretty happy, we cook for him every day, we give him fruits and vegetables and a lot more. We take him on our holidays and he is sooooooooooooo lovely. Also, whenever we have visit, he comes out of the cage and says hello to everybody... I am amazed every day by him! Do you recommend to have another one as a partner in crime? he is just 8 to 10 months old!
Yes please get him company ASAP. He might seem happy to you but he can’t tell you that. He’s also going to be happy to see you every time you come to the cage because he’s desperate for some kind of contact but any human interaction can never replace another rat unfortunately
i only have two rats right now but i want to have 3 or 4 but theres not many breeders here like im pretty sure close to me theres only one that i know of at least, i sent her a message a month ago but she still hasnt replied so im kinda just waiting... but yeah i've thought about how terribly sad it would be if the other one got sick or something because theyre so dependant on each other just yesterday i thought about it, since they were both sleeping in a hammock, then the other one got bored and switched to another bed to sleep and the other one followed..just so cute...but that made me think how sad it would be if they one day had to sleep alone so i gotta get more rats but just cant do anything about it right now, i dont wanna support pet stores :[
I started with 6 girls (sisters)and yeah, they're a handful. I'm so glad I did though because I've seen how complicated their relationships are and they wouldn't have had that as pairs or trios.
It could be a lot of things! Sometimes, depending on how old or how used the rat/mouse is, it could be from just getting picked up. Just keep a very close eye on your rodent. I only have rats, so I am not sure about mice, but it is very important to keep track of any signs of illness, and if you see anything, you might want to get her checked out! I got my baby with her sister on the 19th of Dec, and everything seemed fine. After a while, she started to get sneezes and wheezes, which i knew was bad, but it was holiday/weekend so i could only call in asap for an appointment. Sadly, timing wasn't at all good, and my baby passed away on the night of the 4th, or early 5th, in Jan (she was kept in a gas tank at the vets). I am not a vet or very experienced rat owner (i have only had four in my few years, and the other baby i got gave birth to 12!), but just keep a close eye on your rodent, it can be something simple, but it could also be something dangerous! I'd hate to worry or scare you, but I rather do that than your rats/mice cross the rainbow bridge too early :(
@@nicomckenzie6045 Thank you so much! Ill definitely keep an eye on her! I didnt even consider wheezing, but now I think Im going to check on her breathing daily, just so if she does need help, I know about it! She is shy, so it could be days between when I see her so she could be sick and I wouldnt know. (I was stupid enough to get three mice the same color so I can never be sure who Im watching)
@@makeamesswithme5414 Of course!! If the room is quiet enough, you can hear their wheezing, but it can start off small. Make sure all of them are okay as well. Like I said, I have rats, so I'm not sure if this can happen to mice, but something important is watching their mouth too. If it looks like they are gagging, it is a sign of being sick (rats don't have gag reflex as I read, so I assume it's something about air). I do hope your babies will be okay!! My rat was shy but one night she suddenly got extremely attached to me; it was days before she passed so I don't know if it was from her being sick or something. But breathing is very important! Just make sure they are all alright, and if it gets worse, go see a vet :)
Your rats are soooooo big 😂 They are so cute. I currently have 2 young females, and one baby female 8n quarantine. They are so small compared to yours!
my mom is like nah u don't need another rat (i got two, i already wanted a third one so that if i'm buisy with one than the other two can still play toheter). me sees this video and send it to her.
i have nine right now because of an oops litter, but i’m being forced to give away seven of them by my parents! can i get some advice on how to take care of only a pair? they’re litter mates and seem to enjoy each other’s company, but i’m scared it’s going to change when i take their siblings away
i’m planning on getting rats soon and have to get only two rats due to my family not having much money, i’m trying to get them a cage that looks similar to the one you have and am planning to get 2 more when my rats are either 6 months or a year old! i’m hoping to give them the best life they can live although, im very scared because i am not old enough to have a job so will probably never be able to get enough money to pay for my rats vet bills and my parents will not even help pay and have made it clear that they will not be paying for anything related to my rats since they are just “my pet” :(
I have a pair who are coming up for a year old now, I want to get 2-3 more to introduce eventually, just difficult at the moment with all the covid stuff going on D:
Love your channel so much, you’re the reason I want to get rats so badly. I was wondering how often that there are complications neutering male rats. Thank you so much for your videos.
I have one rat, which I know is entirely bad, but since he is my first I think I waited too long to introduce him to another. He was aggressive and was injuring the other, so we took him back. I want more, but I'm scared to even try in case he ends up severely hurting the other. Any tips?
The longer the wait they can forget how to live with other rats but you should still try. If he’s aggressive towards them a neuter might help him as a first step to try
I had 2 rats and i got another the older girls are oreo who is a black hooded and smoke russian blue hooded and they where really nice to pearl white with pink eyes
I had 2 rats and they were getting quite old so we recently got three more but then one of my old rats got really sick and so did one of my baby rats and we had to put them both down and now we only have 3 and we are waiting to introduce them hopefully I will begin the process tomorrow

Would you ever get gerbils after your hole breeding situation🤣 I got two gerbils after having nice 👍 you are my favourite u tuber and you give great advice THANKS 🙏 💕💕👍👍👍💕💕
I adopted a single rat who was abandoned at my workplace earlier this year. Her name was Poppy. She just passed of old age about two weeks ago and I'm looking at upgrading the "emergency setup" I got for her to accommodate new rats. My stepmom thinks I should only get two rats because she is very sensitive to their smell.
I have a question is it possible that u can make a video on a balanced mouse/mice diet in the future :) I would like to learn more about mice diets. Also I love your videos! ❤️
We went to a sort of association group for rats whose goal were take care of all breeding in order to restore age expectancy further. I was supposed to get 3 rats but the rats were bred according to people’s demands to be sure everybody got a home and so it was complicated cause me and another group were to get males and there were only 4. I got 2 then. The people worked with rats for 20 years and they said it was okay having the two. And I tried multiple time asking if I could have a third one and they thought it wouldn’t be the best option as my rats got along well and brining a younger rat now would mess up the harmony. what are your thoughts?
at first my parents insisted on not getting more than one rat i had to really fight with them to get a second one because i informed myself and learned that they need cagemates To be honest id take in a third one if i could but im kinda stuck currently
I currently have two girls from the same litter, I’m moving them into a much larger cage and I hope that I can convince my family to get at least one more rat.
I have two boys named Remi and Oscar and they are the sweetest! But I only have two and they seem pretty happy and I would LOVE to get more rats, but I don’t want to stress them or I don’t think I’ll be able to convince my father to get more rats. Pls give me ideas on how I can convince my father!
I'm looking into getting more rats as soon as we move. I currently have 4 boys, hut 2 of them are a year and a half and the other 2 are a year now. I want to make sure that when my older 2 boys pass that I have at least 2 already in the cage to replace them :)
I have 2 rats we would’ve got 3 if they were only three but there was 4 and that would have been too expensive for us and the ones we got they were already cuddled up together
Hi there I just have a question if you could answer it I have five rats they are in a double critter nation cage and my question is what are some cheap ways to give them enrichment.
My little guy passed away leaving his brother behind, we’ve brought in 2 other rats and he doesn’t get along with either if them even after a month of slowly introducing them. What can I do? It’s a blood bath every time they get together. Already have had a toe bit off and a gashes up tail. He is very tame, just doesnt get along with other rats.
I live in Germany and here most (responsible) breeders won‘t give you only two rats, they state that you specifically have to get three rats unless you already have a pre-existing group, then the minimum is two.
After our first rat died (the were in a pair) my other rat got very sad after day 1 without his best friend so we got another one we tried to get 2 more but we couldn’t but we got one so patch (my rat) didn’t get depressed.
I have two girls (sisters) and I try to give them lots of things to do in their cage! I would love to get more, but it would be overwhelming because I am a first timer :) I also have a question-sometimes when my rats wake up they "rapid sneeze" they sneeze for a few seconds, and sometimes that really scares me. what do I do? any advice?
I have 2 rescue males that are 7 months old, my boyfriend is planning to get 2 as well. In about a year we'll be moving in together so would they be an okay age by then to introduce to make a group of 4?
I appreciate this because currently I would love to get another rat to go with my two girls but my mom absolutely refuses so there’s nothing I can rly do..

aww that is so nice of u
I originally got 3 boys 6 months ago, unfortunately one passed away when he was only 10 weeks old, but a few days ago I brought 2 more baby boys home and I have already noticed the dynamics of the cage change. The older boys love their baby brothers and are always cuddling and playing together 🥰
That's so sweet!
i currently only have a pair of rats, but I’m planning on getting more this summer (when my current boys are about a year old).
I'm doing the same as you! I want to be able to have a rolling group of maximum 4 rats.
i adopted 3 boys in october and their dynamic is really good
i couldn’t imagine anymore or any less
They are less interactive then rats but I love them so much
as a person who has been looking into getting rats this is really help full thanks for creating such amazing content about these misunderstood animals! c=
7:04 - of course you can still have one really annoying rat in the group ( points at Crumble )
Oh my gosh I died at that 😂
My parents won't let me get more rats. I have 2 at the moment. They have a very large cage (your current size) with lots of toys, hammocks, and places to climb. I free roam them whenever i can and I play with them every day. I try to give them the best possible life. They are very happy and get along great. I hope this is okay :) (They are around 7 months old btw)
P.S I am planning to rehome them once the other dies
Also at 6:10 crumble is so cute
You obviously love and care for your ratties so much! Well Done!!
@@maryoleary5044 Thank you! I really try :)
I just got my first 4 rats a couple of weeks ago and I love them so so much! I am very happy with the breeder I got them from. :)
I have 4 females and they always want to sleep together, on top of each other. They have a really large cage with a ton of hides and hammocks, but almost always they end up sleeping together. (At the moment in their cage they have 8 hides and 4 hammocks, and 6 baskets to sleep of sit in)
I defenitly think rats enjoy to live in a group.
I have 5 male rats and you’ve helped me so much with your videos, thank you so much!
Professional rat researcher, that's all that I could think when you said you did your dissertation on Rats.
Even if you are getting 2, I recommend getting 3. Any case if something happens like, it get sick or dies you have another.
i just got 2 rats for the first time and they seem so happy together like there best friends already and always cuddling but glad i watched this vid to learn more
I never intend to own mice or rats but your videos are so relaxed and chill I've been binging them!
My rat passed away today and it was so hard there such good creatures and i will miss her every day. 💕
That sucks
@@imminentlitch9267 yeah it does but she was very old and lived a good life with her sister.
Just got a critter nation and have been looking for an excuse to introduce more to my pair tyty
It's so cute to just hear their tiny rat sneezes as you're talking
They’re protesting the heating being turned on recently 🙈
@@Emiology Well at least it's a peaceful protest the good lads.
I just sent this video to my mom and hopefully, fingers crossed she says yes!!
I love them all so much & definitely will keep in groups from now on 💕💛
This I got a video I don't own rats but a lot of my other friends do so I'm definitely going to share this video with them
I got here from a meme video of a pair of 3D rat models spinning.
I started with 3 rat a few month ago and I adopted 2 2yo last week , it changed the dynamic of the group for better.
6 rats here
my mom says "when they pass away you cant get more rats 😡" but (assuming they live till 1-2 years) by the time one rat passes away Ill have moved out already 👍
One of my rats passed away witch left me with 2 and it’s taken me a few weeks to recover but I’m finally ready to get another rat again
I REALLY want rats when I move out and I am planning on getting 3 so hopefully that will keep all my rats happy and enriched with their pals 🥰 It is very interesting though since I see a lot of people with 2.
You've always been so informative ♡ keep it up !
Well I started with two rats in an okay cage. Now I have 7 rats in a bio-active RS95 cage. You definitely grow into it😊
I have three.
I am getting 3 rats
im watching this with my three mice and i’m planning on getting rat when i’m gonna have a job☺️
I have 2 rats I Adore them they are my babies..
Both females brought them together at a pet shop. They are called Betty and Wilma ❤
that's adorable! i have two little boys who are absolute sweeties named hajime and makoto and i love them so much :)
Breeder here - at times i got groups of 20+ animals. and all is fine ;) they thrive. and younger rats profit from this: they get proper Socialisation
I started with 6 girls (sisters)and yeah, they're a handful. I'm so glad I did though because I've seen how complicated their relationships are and they wouldn't have had that as pairs or trios.
I have a mouse question: What is the quiet scuffling like sound my mouse makes sometimes when I hold her?
My rats make those sounds all the time and they’re still really happy and healthy.
@@sashannesupremacy Thats a relief, thank you
Im getting 3 in February :) im really excited and im diying a cage and its going to be a nice size
Hey no dislikes! Keep it up Em!
For now 😂
@@Emiology hehe well there are always trolls, and people who just dislike for no reason. It’s just not possible to escape.
i’m planning on getting rats soon and have to get only two rats due to my family not having much money, i’m trying to get them a cage that looks similar to the one you have and am planning to get 2 more when my rats are either 6 months or a year old! i’m hoping to give them the best life they can live although, im very scared because i am not old enough to have a job so will probably never be able to get enough money to pay for my rats vet bills and my parents will not even help pay and have made it clear that they will not be paying for anything related to my rats since they are just “my pet” :(
I have a pair who are coming up for a year old now, I want to get 2-3 more to introduce eventually, just difficult at the moment with all the covid stuff going on D:
I only have two rats right now bc they were rescuerd but I want to try to introduce a other rat to the group? They were feeder rats ?
Also a place that’s sells good rat supplies
Heyyy love the video, have you considered making a video about what you feed your mice? I would really like to know
I had 2 rats and they were getting quite old so we recently got three more but then one of my old rats got really sick and so did one of my baby rats and we had to put them both down and now we only have 3 and we are waiting to introduce them hopefully I will begin the process tomorrow
My rat, fieviel, keeps escaping his cage, there is door that he shouldn't be able to open but he keeps opening it. What should I do to secure the door?
And I tried multiple time asking if I could have a third one and they thought it wouldn’t be the best option as my rats got along well and brining a younger rat now would mess up the harmony. what are your thoughts?
at first my parents insisted on not getting more than one rat
i had to really fight with them to get a second one because i informed myself and learned that they need cagemates
To be honest id take in a third one if i could but im kinda stuck currently
I currently have two girls from the same litter, I’m moving them into a much larger cage and I hope that I can convince my family to get at least one more rat.
I have two boys named Remi and Oscar and they are the sweetest! But I only have two and they seem pretty happy and I would LOVE to get more rats, but I don’t want to stress them or I don’t think I’ll be able to convince my father to get more rats. Pls give me ideas on how I can convince my father!
i have 2 rats called remy and bean
Cam A.......
ADORABLE!😍😍😍
How have you attached the perspex at the bottom of your cage?
Maybe neuter the young ones? My boys are neutered, if you have questions I'm happy to share my experience
Hi sorry I’ve got 3 dumbo crossed Rex rats and I’m getting 2 dumbo rats on Thursday could anyone give me any tips on how to introduce them please
How do I find your shop on the Internet
I have two girls (sisters) and I try to give them lots of things to do in their cage! I would love to get more, but it would be overwhelming because I am a first timer :)
I also have a question-sometimes when my rats wake up they "rapid sneeze" they sneeze for a few seconds, and sometimes that really scares me. what do I do? any advice?
I have 2 rescue males that are 7 months old, my boyfriend is planning to get 2 as well. In about a year we'll be moving in together so would they be an okay age by then to introduce to make a group of 4?
Do they not try to escape your room
I appreciate this because currently I would love to get another rat to go with my two girls but my mom absolutely refuses so there’s nothing I can rly do..
