You can easily google any statistic on the car. Marek can be obnoxious, but I appreciate him mentioning little details. For instance: the short visor is kind of a big deal for me. I drive 20 year old Opel and the visor covers driver's entire front field of vision, left and front. In Škoda sun will hit your eyes unless driving straight towards it. Also, visible wires are unacceptable in such expensive vehicle.
Perfect timing on this, was just looking at it on Skoda website.I will not look any further after this review. Onwards and upwards we go! Sun visor problem? Still a problem in the Golf 7. It's damn annoying how car makers just can't figure out this simple feature.

Thanks for (another) great and very useful review. I love your honesty and presentation style. This has definitely saved me a wasted trip to a Skoda dealer to discover this isn't the car for me! The rear seat folding and "arm rest" are just horrible!
Most of the reviews comparing this car to other cars in the same segment and similar price (Seat Ateca, Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, Toyota C-HR) recommend this car. And the video title is misleading. This was not a review, this was pure hate. And to say the Mini Countryman is better? Are you blind? It's like Fiat Multipla.
Great video Marek as always! I’d just like to highlight the stalling issues you mentioned. I have a 2.0 TDI Skoda Yeti 17 plate, only had it since July however I have the exact same stalling issues. The car was bought for my mother who refuses to drive the car because she believes it is dangerous. We have contacted Skoda customer services, the dealership and the finance company. All who say the issue isn’t not an issue because there is no fault showing on the diagnostics, and instead say the issue is just a “characteristic” of the vehicle. I find it ridiculous that Skoda are making and selling these cars that are stalling and are claiming there’s nothing wrong with them. They have made me and my mother out to be liars because no fault shows in the diagnostics. I’m just so glad you have had the same issue so it’s not just us!
Your issue may be different from mine. I'm experiencing stalling at low speed in second gear caused by turbo lag. My guess is what you may be experiencing in a 2.0 TDI is the stop&start system shutting the engine off as you are rolling to a junction just as you want to take off again. Try turning stop&start off (not ideal, but it may do the trick).
Just to clarify, I ALWAYS turn off the stop/start function. It’s the exact same issue, it stalls in 2nd gear when approaching a roundabout or junction. There are plenty of owners forums who state they are having the same issue
"They say the issue is just a “characteristic” of the vehicle." Salesman: "The car has this great feature that no one has! Let me show you the new stalling Skoda! Yaay!" I would remind him that no one has this issue and demand a full refund.

I quite like the rather plain unassuming styling. If it was very competitive to buy it would be an attractive proposition for many, I'm sure. However if they demand a premium price for it, not so much. The Mini Countryman alternative for slightly more money sounds much more interesting. I suppose that my daughter's Nissan Qashqai is also a rival and she/we are very satisfied with that and would probably buy another now that they have a new, better, petrol engine than the 1.2 turbo. If only Nissan had a more reliable automatic as well. The Mini is probably available with the ZF 9 speed [although I haven't checked for sure] which I really like on my CR-V. If so, the Mini would be my choice even though it would be somewhat more expensive. Maybe an ex-demonstrator or year old used model would be better than a new Karoq?
Nice review i own its direct sister the Seat Ateca, it's a great car and well build. A small update about the price tho, here in the Netherlands the most basic version actually start at € 29.790 (Ambition 1.0) not 26k for the ateca it about the same.

Nice review Marek. You're going to make a great dad. You've got that "disappointed look" down perfectly! A 1L engine? Blah. It seems like there's a limit to reducing displacement before you aren't gaining any discernible efficiency from the reduction. I would think the engineers would be better off employing variable cylinder management or deactivating cylinder designs. I'm looking forward to your review of the 2020 Range rover Evoque. I was glancing at the interior and exterior dimensions and it doesn't quite add up for me. Length wise it's up against the Q3 but it's interior dimensions seem to be more like the Q5. Baffling.
I think we'll be seeing a slight regress when it comes to downsizing. With new fuel economy tests small turbocharged engines won't make sense. Don't get me wrong - I'm impressed with what these motors are capable of (except when I need to start quickly from the lights), but I'd probably like something bigger. As for my "disappointed face", it comes from looking in the mirror every morning :)
@@MarekDrives Ha. You're self deprecating sense of humour is soo Canadian. Thumbs up! I was thinking about this small displacement issue and instead of slapping on a turbo, they should have employed a mild hybrid system to help in city driving.

Only people who cant drive manual have problems like this. Safety issue LOL..
Great review. I really struggle to understand European car size classifications. These seems to be an (American) compact crossover, but you compared to CHR and Eclipse Cross that are definitely sub-compact, so of course the Skoda has a larger boot. It's in the next higher size class. If the "more expensive" Skoda is more expensive than those competitors, it seems like you might getting a value by buying the larger Skoda because it's a larger car for a smaller price. But it is funny how they cut corners with cheaper parts (e.g., useless sun visors, seat belts, plastics, seat fabrics) to save a few pennies (I've consulted at Ford in the past and that is the actual savings per part per car) and to distinguish this from it's VW cousin. It also seems like this rides on previous gen platform, pre-MQB.
This is built on MQB. And it's the size of Eclipse Cross and C-HR, which are (by European standards) compact crossovers. Sub-compact or B-crossover would be VW T-Roc and whatever Seat/Skoda have in this segment.
I don't believe that 'size class' is any more than a very rough approximation. What matters is how roomy a car is on the inside individually for front, rear and boot, and overall. Pick one that suits your lifestyle and forget about size class. Personally I class salloons, hatchbacks, estates, crossovers, SUV's, whatever, according to their body style, performance and then small, medium and large. No fancy names. How small, medium or large they are really needs some kind of common standard. There is none. You are free to compare with your own choice of reference car with a similar body style and the obsession with precise size classification is not particularly helpful.
Interior volume is a US measure, noone's using it in Europe. I'd say there are four factors important for car classification: exterior dimensions, interior quality, engine power and price. For example Skoda Rapis may be as big as some compact cars but the rest is straight from the subcompact class (trashy interior, weak engines).
How to be a successful UA-camr one-o-one :) Create catchphrases and routines that viewers can expect to find in every video. They start with "I'm Yuri, I'm Jakub, and we're going for a drive" (brilliant intro BTW!), and then they have the visor test, and the box test. I don't know how much of that was intuition (also known as a fluke), and how much was research before actually giving Jakub's channel a makeover (originally he wanted to record straight-pipe exhausts), but they made it into relatable, friendly channel, and I applaud them.

It saves a lot of time.

Hardly a meaningful number, when 2.5m passenger cars are sold in the UK.

As you said, Skoda in Western EU really isn't cheap anymore. Here it costs the same as a VW, wich at first glance is the same quality, but Engine noise insulation, road noise and so on aren't on pair. Sure the Skoda owners will disagree, but i owned 2 Superbs (2015 and 2017, both 3rd generation) and now have the second VW at home (Golf GTD and Tiguan) and you do notice the difference ;) But as long as people take Skoda as the new "Volkswagen" it will sell good.

@@brearleydavid2194 it's not about telling it as it is or not. When an evidently good car is only criticized and when details such as the height of the visor are considered more important than the outstanding performance, 5 star safety rating, and good trim-to-price ratio, it is easy to see that there is a bias

What do you want me to say? It's meh.
Don't buy either Mini is designed by somebody who is blind both in style and ergonomics

Nicely done!
Mild hybrids do jack. It's a way to evade some of the eco-taxes. Full hybrid or PHEV is the way to go, but that's quite expensive. I think Skoda is working on a fully electric car now.

I'd say it also competes with Kia Sportage and Jeep Compass.
@@MarekDrives Thanks!
Always found the straight pipes sunviser test pointless.... But funny reference Marek

Create catchphrases and routines that viewers can expect to find in every video.
@@MarekDrives yeah I watch them sometimes. I didn't realise you have your own car spinning platform?! That's amazing, and must have cost a lot, I applaud you!
@@MrSunnyBhoy it's not mine. For a couple of years I had a deal promoting a Polish car buying app startup, and I used their studio. They would take every car on the market, and photograph it from every angle inside and out, and then merge it into this virtual 360 image. This is the very car:
