This is amazing video showing exactly what it was riding the RD400 on its day....still gives me goose bumps.....Thank you and your build buddy for bringing this great machine to all its glory! Vamos Guillermo, todavia!
i had a rd250, beautiful machine, have always regretted selling it many years ago, i'm from scotland on sundays we spent the day on the bike going around the bars around loch ness, you have done a fantastic job with your bike, enjoy for many years.
Nice bike brother, I think you said that you were over 300 lbs, well it's never too late to get in Shape. I lost 50 lbs myself. Watch your blood pressure. Have a good day. Enjoyed the video. Thumbs up!
Good for you, bro. I think they were the best value in motorcycle history. Owned two in high school and tricked out my blue '77 and raced it later. There is always more you can do, such as a CDI ignition and a lightened crank. That has the '79 head on it. I used '79 cylinders with the '77 head and Gary Shumake at Spec II built the engine w/Stage 4 porting, the lightened crank, etc. The air cooling is the big limitation of the RD400, so I'd rig an exhaust/head temp gauge.
Damn that is one beautiful bike and it sounds incredible! I have been wanting to restore one of these for a while but this video is getting me pretty serious about it!
Vehicle at 6:48 just about took your lane. Beautiful RD, I had a brand new 1978 RD 400. In my later years at 56 I still ride a 'Yamaha Vstar 1300t. Regret not keeping my RD
Yes I agree. He had helped me already. Very generous with his time and a huge assets to the 2 stroke community! My bike is gong to him in 2 weeks for the 'Guillermo" treatment. Cannot wait.
I had a RD 250 it was great. You can stop the popping wheelies by adjusting the clutch lever or you can change gear up to 5th gear early at about 4000rpm and the going up to the gears until yo get to top gear. Remember the higher the gear you go in the lower the revs will be.
Man that's an amazing project, congrats! I'm about to pick up an old RD400 in Colombia and do some custom work. Do you have a good contact for spare parts that you could share? Cheers.
Hey. Did you have the mag rims redone if so what procedure powder coat or paint I’m in middle doing my wheels I painted them aluminum color so they look like factory but I like that color you have on your wheels. And you have a beautiful bike I can’t even go to a store without some guy 60 or so stopping telling me about when he had one In high school I tell them I just got it true but next time I’m going to say I bought it new in1976 when I was 16 I never parted with it that’s going to be my story lol
Yoyoyo..... you know wassup with dem 2 strokes, SON! Port dat ish and polish the exhaust port..... lower the deck, squishband thingy, piston window, etc etc. Na'mean? Dat shit will be flying to da moon! :)
Hey man! Sorry to bother you again but I'm looking for some pointers on doing the caliper conversion just like what you did on the front wheel. Any pointers would be awesome! I know that the yamaha "blue dot calipers" can be used but I don't know much more than that. Thanks!
Hey man gra400c on the 2stroke world forum makes the caliper adapter. Hit him up and order one. After that it's pretty much plug and play. If you need more help let me know and I'll send you my email.

Axel 45 their are a lot of forums that give great detail on literally everything RD related... I think the website is called AirCooledRDs.com but I’m not 100% sure, and just go to the forum part 🏍💨💨

I've never seen an RD400 rev so easily and pull so strongly.
3:30 when you blip it down 2 gears, then open the throttle......oh what joy.
And that's with my longer highway gearing. I'm running a 15t front sprocket now and it's nuts.

@@Nick-ov7yg it's an sv600 rotor.
@@e30gangsta Ok sweet. Did you use the stock bolt spacing or did you use a custom adapter to mount the rotor? That's the part I'm most confused on.
@@Nick-ov7yg different spacing. If I remember correctly. There's a ring adapter to allow the bigger caliper/rotor.
