I am amazed on how there are a million different people showing you how to make backup discs but try and find one that shows you how to reinstall the info and you wont find any. I guess these smarts guys forgot that.
It's highly recommended to never shut down your computer using your physical power button. It can wreck your drivers and cause massive issues with the computer. That's actually why i'm watching this video now! It IS however recommended that whenever you need to hard shut down, unplug the AC adapter and take out the battery. The components inside the computer know what to do when they lose power, but when it is forced to shut down, it will corrupt drivers and such. :(
I suggest adopting the "LESS IS MORE" principle. Preparing better so you can take less of an extemporaneous approach to addressing the public info seekers like myself. Again, hope you can read this with the constructive idea it was written to convey.
That would be the shipping cost. If you registered your computer when you purchased it, you are not always charged for the recovery disks themselves by providing the product and serial number of your equipment because there will be a record of your purchase and your personal information on file. It is sent to you as a courtesy for replacement of a product you already purchased.
this helps if got hp can have one copy of them if have someone with exact same brand an model pc there disks will work on yours to but if hp it will mean you wont get to create another set on your pc though after it redoes every thing with their cds
thank you sooooooooooo much you helped me fix my computer and now my computer is way faster and is retored and now i can get past the starting windows screen :)
I need help with restoring my backup files on my computer. I recdntly went back from windows 10 back to windows 7. I had to go back to factory setting. I backed up my files before making the change. I don't know how to put the files back onto the computer. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance
Please explain the difference between the system recovery without discs and using the discs? Why use discs if the system can do it without? thanks, Barbara
Thanks, helpful information. I want sell my computer and taken all my important data out so if I run recovery disk it will wipe out all the crap from computer. Another thing is I have dual boot so if I run recovery disk will it remove dual boot as well? Can you please let me know. Tx
I wish i had seen this video earlier because now i have to buy the disks but i have a question, is $15 too cheap for a recovery disk? i saw it in the HP website and i think its too good to be true.
Now I have a question, bought two identical laptops at the very same time. seeing as how the DVD disk are a bit costly would you advise making making recovery disks off of one laptop to use for both or should I make a set of individual recovery disk for each laptop?
Hi Eli! I'm Oma Am. Today I watched 3 to 4 of your videos, one is about CES which happened end of Last yr. or beginning of this year. Sounds exciting. Eli I'm a baby tech and a few yrs. older than you. I can't get this need to know computers outta me so instead I'm just riding the wave of geekdom. I Looove it. I've run in to some big obstacles. Being a tech is expensive. You seem to need money here and there for books, parts, and other related devices. So since I'm yet at the bottom of geekdom what I'd like to ask is can I teach my self for free to take the Aplus test because, googley moogley! I gotta find alotta cheese to take the cert. test. 2.Can I study my way on my own thru networking and security too? Also, since Programming is the thing or is climbing, can I study my way on my own thru that too and just worry about building cheese to get my cert for that too? I know I'm saying and asking alot. Loove your videos, you're funny and out of pure appreciation for God's handy work, you're Handsome. And most Importantly you're smart and sound like a person who likes to be balanced which is wise, and honest as much as a human can be honest. Thank you for your service and do hope I hear from you concerning my inquiries. Take care!
i have my disks (9)..after watching this a couple times i understand how to use them but..when i was having issues with virus's etc i lost all pics and music etc..my question is will using these disks bring those files back?
I was looking on how to recover a hard drive that is no longer bootable. If my PC was able to boot that why would I need to recover. I have the recovery disks but if I can't boot what good are the recovery disks?
+estoncita If they are running the same operating system, yes. There is a COA sticker and product key on the back of your laptop that will tell you what version and generation you have. As long as its the same version AND generation, it will work.
Restore discs turn out to be a life saver when you need them. If you need a restore disc you can get them from the manufacturer or you can download a Windows 7 Restore Disc at restorediscssupplydotcom Also find free computer restore help.
My hard drive failed on my laptop, so i decided to buy a solid state drive. I dont want to blow 90 bucks on a windows 7 disk but there are recovery disks that can apparently reinstall your operating system as long as you have your computers product key. If i were to buy one of those disks, how would i use it? Would i run it like a boot disk when i start my computer up?
Can you do this method if you want to restore your OS from a HDD to a new SSD? will it have partition problems? I wanted to convert my working HDD to an SSD and i really dont trust 3rd party cloning softwares. Hope to hear from you soon.
Can I ask a really dumb question? I have a Toshiba laptop and hence found the Toshiba folder in the Windows 7 star menu. Like you said, there is an option called TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator. However, there is also an option in the Control Panel; Create a repair disk. Should I use the windows one or the Toshiba one? Is there a difference?
I have a lenovo G555 and I have to make my own recovery disk too. However i have no idea why mine isn't working. Can someone who has the same model tell me whats wrong? I've made the disks and numbered them correctly, but I don't know what to do next, do i just put the first disk in and let it run?
Question. I did make a back up disk. Te computer crashed. Nothing worked. Would not boot. I took it in for repair. at Fry's where it was built. They change the mother board and the hard drive, not the same brand. So will my back up disks still work with this? And what is I would only want selective items move to the computer. Would I be able to that with my current back up disks? Tom
I have a question, my wife's laptop is screwed and needs a system restore done, but for some reason unlike mine which when restarted will pop up a boot screen where u have options to press say F11 to get into system recovery, hers is totally gone. Ive done a system recovery on hers before so what happened? Any idea? Was wondering too, if I could use my recovery disc from my desktop on hers, but then what about activation? Oh and is there a certain type of discs u have to use for recovery, such as DVD-R, or +R or -RW or what?
when you put the disk in, and then change settings to boot from disk. after the restore , do you have to change it back to boot from h drive, or does it do for you automatically .
im like you great with computers does your store use WAIK to help clients in the install as if theres crash then you all could make a AI from retail versions though the factory stuff be gone
Help I have a Toshiba satellite L775 I don't have CD-ROM/DVD option on BIOS. I have recovery disk but I can't run them. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
You should keep searching in BIOS. Maybe look up your version of BIOS and see if DVD/CD is supported. You should call Toshiba Support or use their forums.
Hello. I have a toshiba satellite laptop. The laptop did come with restore disks, but I am just having a hardtime restoring the laptop to its factory settings using those disks. As you showed in the video, i did go to the system setting to configure the fact that the machine reads the CD Rom before it reads the hardrive of the computer. But still no luck. Help please!!!!
you didn't show how to bring up the menu to change the windows boot option,so how do you do that?also do you place the dvd into the drive and then shutdown the computer normal way, then re-start the computer, but how to get the windows boot option window?
i got disks with my computer and im trying to do this now. On the discs it says insert, reeboot computer and then follow on screen prompts. Nothing comes up when i reeboot computer
I am amazed on how there are a million different people showing you how to make backup discs but try and find one that shows you how to reinstall the info and you wont find any. I guess these smarts guys forgot that.

Thank You So Much! I didn't know how to use the recovery disc. You saved my laptop.

Thank you! Need to replace HD and wasn't sure how do reinstall OS. Appreciate the help.
@jofjeff3120965 Just go with name brand disks. The generic ones have a high failure rate. I usually go with Memorex.

Thanks Eli. Very helpful.
cyber wisdom from the top prison tech guy. nice orange tee dude. good stuff! You deserve a bigger cell Eli.
this was very helpful cuz i forgot what i needed to do for a recovery.

Perfect...just the info I have been looking for. Subcribed
You can also use usb drives..... At least on mac osx. I've made one before and it's very useful and takes up less space than a CD.
Stephen F. you can do this on usb
There has to be a shorter version :)
I wish i had seen this video earlier because now i have to buy the disks but i have a question, is $15 too cheap for a recovery disk? i saw it in the HP website and i think its too good to be true.
@hacksandmods1498 All you do is boot off of them, and then follow the prompts...
What type of disks do you recommend to use?
I had to do this because my computer was messing up and its funny because i watched this vid a few days ago before it happened!!
thank you gateway i love you
Now I have a question, bought two identical laptops at the very same time. seeing as how the DVD disk are a bit costly would you advise making making recovery disks off of one laptop to use for both or should I make a set of individual recovery disk for each laptop?
Use the Toshiba one. The repair disk won't let you restore to factory default.
this was a fantastic video. thanks
Thanks, elithecomputerguy. I've been looking for this exact information.

If you want to use the system discs do you select restore operating system and retain user data? Aren't all your files on your disc?

it worked! thanks
if they're identical, then it should be safe to only make one set, but if you don't want to take any chances, then you should make two sets
my doubt is when u make recovery the data stored in other partitions is deleted????
My HP has a recovery hard drive (D:) Can you use that to recover, and how?

If your PC can't read your disk, you need a disk writer.
Before commenting anything, make sure your your comment is written to neat standard.

Whoa, that seems expensive. The company online we get ours from usually only charges 20-50 or so.

You should keep searching in BIOS. Maybe look up your version of BIOS and see if DVD/CD is supported. You should call Toshiba Support or use their forums.
How did you get that menu? To move the DVD to #1 on start up?
