Often on a bike trip I've just "camped" under a tarp or even in the open and that works well in a warm climate but a lot of commercial campsites expect you to be using a tent. I used a petrol stove for many years for cooking but they can be fiddly and need a lot of concentration to light - something that can be in short supply first thing in the morning. I've had my MSR flare up often and once set my shirt on fire when I was trying to start it half asleep. For short trips I've gone back to a small gas cylinder and a tiny $10 screw on burner. Your little chair is better than nothing but I get back ache really quickly sitting on that design. For "posh" trips I now take a Helinox (copy!) and for lightweight trips just sit on my luggage. Camping mattresses are still a niggle with me. I've used so many different ones over the years from the roll up foam type (bulky and pretty useless but all you could get back at the dawn of time) through a variety of Therma-Rests to a number of different brands that litter my gear loft. I've probably got about 10 of them at the moment (I'm a sucker for mattress marketing hype!) and they all fall down in one way or another. They're either comfortable but hugely bulky (Exped), compact but no better than sleeping on my clothes (various Therma-Rests) or fragile - valves jam or pull out, material rips etc. Whichever one I take is always a compromise. And as for tents .....!
I just use a bivi tent and a motorcycle cover...I sometimes don't even have a sleeping bag as I carry enough warm clothing. I have wildcamped ok with just a groundsheet a face net for mosquitos and just wearing everything to stay warm. staying light as possible is worth it for the fun ..heavy is a pain . Another spot on post ty
This is a very good video I would add: Head torch + batteries Knife/ multitool kit Water filter Camelback bag with water bladder Battery pack to charge phone/gopro Consider solar powered Spare parts/tools for bike as necassary Collapsible Spade Bog roll Basic 1st aid gear Whistle Flint in case lighter fails!! Jerry can for spare fuel Also if you decide to get camping gear its important to get "ultralite" gear. Gear specifically designed that's very durable, but packs very small and is super light Like msx Hubba Hubba tent, thermorest inflatable mattress, silk sleeping bag liner, Rab 'down' sleeping bag These may cost more but weigh a fraction compared to a normal brand, and pack soooo small Would be good to see the bike fully loaded with the paniers, with the compartments , food water etc Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your video! We are on a motorcycle trip right now from Singapore to Germany. We tested our new awesome mattress recently in Mongolia, in a Gobi desert. We got the Sea to Summit brand and those things are amazing and very small, the size of a small water bottle. You can sleep on rocks with this thing and you dont feel the ground at all.
Hi! I discovered this channel yesterday. Very useful advices. I'm planning a "long" trip this spring from Spain to England, along France, and I'm getting the same clue: It does not worth to carry all my camping gear for saving a fistful of euros, when I can sleep in hostels or cheap hotels, avoiding mounting the tent under the rain, cold, etc. Less is more. Keep on the good work!
If you want a more compact mattress then I recommend the Quechua Mat Forclaz Air Bed from Decathlon in Europe (approx €40 /. £30). it rolls up really small, but with less than 10 puffs it is 3-4cm thick and very comfortable.
I used this mattress on a 4 day trip only camping in a tent, and it wasn't the most comfortable mattress out there imo. but to each their own, for the price it's doing a good job tho
The gear you carry as your home is an important as you motorcycle clothing, I use a freestanding (vango 2 person hiking) tent that when set up with the three poles, you are also setting up the fly, so if it is raining, you don't need to put the inner tent up first (which now gets wet) and then the fly. Being free standing you don't need to peg it out and you can move the tent if the ground is a bit rocky. I also use a Ultra-lite cot so if the ground is rocky you sleep off the rocks, my sleeping mat is a Exped synth winter lite 5cm thick rated to -17 C, and a - 20 degree down bag (when it is how I don't use the Exped and just use a sleeping bag liner). Sleeping badly is a sure way to ruin a trip. Tents allow you to undress and get out of you bike gear and store it in with you as opposed to a bivvy bag. Petrol stoves are great as you always have fuel with you on long trips, but if they fail I also carry a Firebox 3" folding stove which you can use a Trangia burner, Esbit tablets or wood.
I want to share how much I enjoy your videos. I'm American, but my strongest family roots are German (I believe in one of your videos you said you were from Germany, and if I'm wrong I apologize). I really appreciate that you narrate in English too, but if you used your primary language and provided English subtitles I'd still watch. You're advice is great, very practical, and comes from your experience -yours is advice worth listening to. Please keep making videos. I own a Suzuki VStrom 650, and my dreams and plans are the kind of adventures your advice is perfect for. Sincerest thanks to you sir! Sincerely, Bryan R.
I was just watching another of your videos, and found out you are Bulgarian, and get to ride around the beautiful German country side. Good stuff! Keep up the great work!
Hi Byan, I am originally from Bulgaria, but I am living in Germany at the moment. Thank you very much for this long and kind commend! Enjoy your trips and don't forget - ride safe!
I don't even know your name, but I really enjoy your videos! I'm from Brazil, and here I have a Tenere 250cc. An amazing motorcycle! All your videos are helping me to plan a good motorcycle trip! My dream today is going on a trip from Petrópolis-RJ to anyplace on Chile and I always knew something new on your videos! Thanks about that!!
+Motorcycle Adventures Hey Pavlin! I watch again this video and just now I realized that you introduce yourself when the video start. My english isn't very well yet, but I'm working on it! Your videos are helping me to improve my listening and work on my future trip!!
Very helpful video, yes you are right you need to plan and decide whether you will need the camping gear or not. Depending also on the countries as you mentioned if the accommodation is expensive or bad better to have them and be independent. Thank you Pavlin. Enjoy Riding,
It’s always good to get recommendations and advice. I’ve never camped but have been building up my gear over the last year ready. Hopefully somewhere in spring 2018 reasonably local. I’m a couple of hundred miles from Brecon Beacons in Wales, so not too far from where I am in southern england. Thanks for upload,
I recommend a sleeping bag liner also. After a long day of riding you get very dirty and sweaty, and showering is sometimes not an option. A sleeping bag liner protects your sleeping bag from getting grease from sweat in it, causing the insulation to clump together and reducing its effectiveness.
I really enjoy your videos. You have a lot of knowledge about traveling by motorcycle and I appreciate you sharing it with others. Keep up the great work!
I also want to overnight in tents in the future on motorcycle trips, but what about hygiene. What Im trying so say is if you sleep in a hotel or hostel you can easy take a shower, so how you do that wit a tent? It will be great to have a respond. Thanks again for the video 😁
Even if you plan many tent nights, the hotels are must every few days. Not only because of the shower. Usually in every camping park place they provide showers as well, but you will need comfort.
Great video. Thank you. Only thing I want to point out is that around the 6:00 mark the background music had human voices that made it harder to hear what you were saying. (Liked the music otherwise though.)
Hi pavlin! your suggestions have weight in them. As they are very fruitful for riders and i hope you will come to Pakistan someday and i will accompany you with a ride to visit pakistan with hospitality. 👍
Motorcycle Adventures I am glad to hear about your plan to visit Pakistan this year. I warmly welcome you. I belong to city karachi. I hope you will update me with your exact dates so that I can receive you with my Rider group. I can help you If you need any help related to Pakistan visit. Anytime. 👍
an important note: during spring and summer (desert), you don't need a tent, only a net, and even then its optional because the nights got nice temperatures and if its cold, bring a hot shirt to sleep with. Tents are all about privacy, and you don't need privacy in an empty lifeless desert. In addition, tents protect you from wind, but if you can find (and you can) a big rock to sleep under, you wont feel the wind anyways. (learn from Texas Cowboys) In addition, bring only dry food, no cans! dry food is light weight and doesn't require much space. and last but not least, for gods sake don't forget the damn toilet paper XD P.S Also please don't leave any garbage behind you, we all want to enjoy clean nature Cheers!
I ride with my bicycel 5 day trip and all total bicycel (not motorcycel) 64.300km at 1990- until today. If you ride alone then is best You choise route what is by near railways and many village/towns-becaus someting get wrong You can go to train back or no need a long go to nearest village ask help.
What do you use for security for your motorcycle at night other than a disc lock? Chains are to heavy to carry and not everywhere has secure parking facilities. Regards RR

I never think about it, thanks!
I use a liner as well, silk ones compact extremely small. In hot weather I use just the liner and it stops the mosquitoes and bugs.
Always informative. And since your older videos like this, your newer videos are so much more professional. Excellent job. Well done!
Thanks Jan! Well, I learn fast...

Would you do a video on cleaning your motorcycle after a long ride and what you do to get ready for summer riding. John😎
Ok, I will think about it.

Awesome instructions. I am going on my first big trip in a couple of months.
Valuable information.
I am a new Sub. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you Eddie! Check the rest of the videos and let me know if you have any questions.
What i recommend, instead of a pillow, use sleepingbag's bag, stuff it with clothes and voila !
Pillow weight nothing and will make a significant difference in your comfort.

Hammock camping is a good solution!
Not great in the desert 😉
@@gary9768 What's better in the desert?
A tent. Hammocks work best with trees around 😉
I have a lot of simular stuff. What are you using to carry water?
Hydration pack from Source.
Great video, very informative, thank you
Thanks sir. I learned so much.

What tyre inflator did you take with you on the trip? I didn’t hear you mentioning it in the video.
I don't have. Just use air pump.
What do you use for security for your motorcycle at night other than a disc lock? Chains are to heavy to carry and not everywhere has secure parking facilities.
Regards RR
Nothing, just chain lock and of course never leave it on the street.
@@motorcycleadventures chain lock? Heavy chain or do you mean disc lock.
Sorry! Disc lock.
I like your Channel!!!Thumbs UP....and so on and so on and so on.... ;)
You saw already that 2 wheels bicycle trailer? What do you think about 1 wheel motorcycle trailer for all your luggage?
My opinion is that on the motorcycle trip you don't need so much luggage.
