The standard Yokebar safety squat has tremendously improved my posture. It works great for seated calf raises. Elevate the forefoot to get as close as possible to the ROM coming out of the hole at the bottom of a squat.
Another trick is turning the bar or pad upside down. It completely changes the camber angle and the stress it puts on the upper back during squats. I have had this bar for 6 years and absolutely love it. Go get this bar now!
Why not do both? Sometimes I purposely push the handles up because I feel like it loads my quads more. it’s more comfortable than doing front squats, and I can still hammer my quads.
Sam has really mastered maintaining the best arm angling while on camera Also, few favorite yoke bar variations for me: Unilateral work - the hands free part means I can grab the rack for balance and push further in something like a split squat Leg burn out work - Sometimes I like actually pushing the handles up for high rep sets. Often times my back is giving out first after frying it from all the standard variations and I dont have any leg machines to supplement with. So doing it the "easy" way means I can really pump my legs at the end of a workout. Goodmornings - pretty self explanatory, especially on this channel lol. I like doing them to pins to keep from cheating.
I can zercher squat with my bar upsidedown because my handles are not removable,i cant bench but i can overhead press and squat Lange if i have the angle of the foams outside the only thing recurring is thambless grip on the overhead press because the bar will go a bit moving front back but if you hold very tight you can steel do it even with foul grip💪
Thank you so much for the tip on turning the bar around for front squats! That helped so much and I just love front squatting with this bar as well as back squatting.
I have been using it exclusively for years now for squats due to having shoulder issues. Wish I had one 30 years ago would have saved my shoulder wear and tear tremendously. Figured most of these "secrets" out in my own through trial and error. The Zercher squat with it is awesome and way, way better than holding the bar the traditional way which is very painful, even with a pad. Plus the squeeze produces an isometric contraction of many muscles.. The front squat variation is ok but feels like your airway is going to get cut off.
I would say first of all lots of grip work, good mornings or some sort of back extension (especially for GI bjj where you have to resist being pulled or extending away from someones guard), lots of neck strengthening, and they don't talk about it but olympic lifts are supposed to be better for athleticism and explosiveness
Well timed video. I got my SSB last year and noticed immediately that it was a different beast. I use my SSB bar for my second back squat movement of the week (bench squat, since I don't have a box), but have been thinking about adding a front squat into the routine as a second squat on my second leg of the week. I tried them last week with the straight bar but couldn't get comfortable with it. Tried Zercher squats with the same bar but found I couldn't get my elbows out of the way to I couldn't get all the way down. Perhaps the SSB will help with that.
3:20 I see people all the time putting the SSB backwards in the rack this way, but never for this reason. They squat with the bar backwards because they were never told it’s backwards - and how can you blame ‘em? Lots of SSB experts out there but no one showing the people new to it the basics. Tl;dr If you’re gonna use the SSB for a regular back squat (not for front squat), don’t make the mistake of putting it in the rack this way. Happens all the time.
Just got my SS Yoke bar earlier this week. Been wanting one for years and finally just said "Fuck it!" and ordered one. Great video. I've used one a few times over the years but, just regular squatting. Glad I saw this video because as you said earlier, I'm on a budget and hate buying equipment that I can only use for one or two exercises.
Update: Customer service reached out and resolved the issue ! Thanks Efts less videos more order fulfillment. i’ve been waiting like 3 months for my bar with no update!!
front squats with the ssb are silly, you want the weight in front of you to hit the quads better. Also, PRs performance suggests not pulling the handles down too hard because in the bottom it will pitch the camber down to the ground. You want the camber to put the weight in front of you to hit the quads harder, so its a balance of pushing and pulling to keep the camber in the same position, in front of you.
Please don't ever front squat with this bar. I find it very sleazy that ELITEFTS would stoop to the levels of recommending a vastly inferior and unstable exercise just to promote their product. Shameless.
Oh boy this guy is the dont squat its bad for your knees, dont deadlift its bad for your back guy. You probably are weak, terrible physique, and low test low risk beta.
@@andrewgoss4328 lol mind your own business, you should spend your time shaving and fixing your god awful hairline. And lay off the sugar pal and your skin will clear up.

Legend has it if you say SS Yolk Bar 5 times in a bathroom mirror. Chuck Vogelpohl will appear and your squat will go up 50 lbs.
Gonna do this every leg day
@@danielrushford4393 be careful. Legend also says that you will be cursed with wearing a flame beanie for all eternity.
I’ve been doing SSB squats wrong, I had no idea I’m suppose to pull the handles down. I needed this.

That is exactly what I was looking for when purchasing my ssb... thanks for this greatly appreciated
I was just doing Hatfield's with my SSB today. One of my favorite movements! Learned a few new moves from this though, thanks for the info!

Unscrew the handles for the front squat and it become a bit easier to get in and out of depending on how big you are.
I tried that but I found it easier to manipulate the bar positioning after I got over 300ish lbs with the handles still on.
Great video Sam. The Zercher squat was a new one for me.

#6 use it for hip thrusts!

Love good mornings to the pins with the SSB!
Thanks for this. As a Judoka this bar has really improved my game
Also use my SSB for a variation of the Hise Shrug,an old school movement to build up the traps.
Good timing for me to find this. I’m starting a ssb block this week.
Perfect!

From the beginning I've always preferred pulling the handles down because it shifts the weight further back.rather than forward.

Dave when are we getting the follow up to podcast #58? It was just getting into the doctor stories. Need that por favor
Is there a recommended set of collars/clamps to use on this bar that aren't expensive?
I just started using this bar and I do not push the handles up, or pull them down. I typically keep them more neutral. Is this ok?
I do the same 😎

i do bench presses with the ssb
Take out handles great for jm press
Nice tips! Enjoyed this video and all the jokes keep it up
I push up the handles on the way up. makes the torso feel more rigid.
That guy has the most uneven bench grip I’ve ever seen lol. Get some hockey tape rings on that bar for that boy lol.

Is the there any benefit squatting with it with the handles held up high….I find it puts less stress on my knees when I do
I think you answered your own question?
My flexibility is shit, so this is the only thing I can use to squat
No good mornings?
Hell yeah !!
I hate seeing downvotes on these videos. Like... why? This is great info
