  • The leaf is a flattened structure borne at the node on the stem. It originates from shoot apical meristem and bears a bud in its axil called axillary bud.
    It is the most important vegetative organ for photosynthesis.
    A typical leaf consists of three parts that is leaf base, petiole and lamina or leaf blade.
    Venation-
    the arrangement of veins and veinlets in the lamina of the leaf is called venation.
    i) Reticulate Venation
    ii) Parallel Venation
    Types of Leaf-
    Based on the incision of laminar leaf are of two types-
    a) Simple Leaf
    b) Compound Leaf- i) Pinnately compound
    ii) Palmately compound
    Phyllotaxy-
    The pattern of arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch is called Phyllotaxy.
    a) Alternate
    b) Opposite
    c) Whorled
