This is where there's a generational disconnect, bc I understand Gia's perspective. Ppl like to use the fact that they are older as a means to control the way you can act, when you're younger than them. They also like to use it as a means to feel inevitably wiser, smarter, and altogether correct than you'll ever have the chance to be, before you even speak a word on a given matter. Despite this, Gia made a valid point imo, which is that she wants to have a rational conversation with respect, rather than being talked down to, just because she's a niece and a 20 year old. She didn't say anything outlandish other than just wanting Joe to speak to her like the adult she is, rather than the kid she used to be. And she also didn't want his hot temper to blow up, as soon as she speaks with an honest heart (which ofc, it did anyways, as he goes running off like a dramatic child). She doesn't negate that he wasn't there for her in a big way throughout her life, but her Dad is also her father, whom she is very close to and loves dearly. Sometimes, it feels like Joe's disdain for Gia's father makes him feel justified in making Gia almost put him on a higher pedestal in respect and admiration than her own father. This type of behavior is both unfair and simply wrong. Gia is clearly observant and recognizes this, which is likely why she holds a slight grudge w/the blatant disregard Joe seems to have toward her father and her relationship to him as a whole. She naturally feels that a lot of the ways her father was treated wasn't entirely fair. And what's wrong w/her feeling that way? I don't think she said anything terribly mean. Well I’m sorry, I can speak to it because the same thing happened to me when my dad and my uncle (who’s like my second dad) were at odds, my dad cheated and mistreated my mom for a long time so my uncle did speak up and even posted a message on my dad’s Facebook page for everyone to see, yes it was hurtful but never in a million years it would cross my mind to disrespect my uncle the way Gia is being, she cannot shut her eyes on what her dad did and make it seem like he’s such an angel but going after her uncle for speaking so first of all she needs to learn her place as a child and understand that both sides especially her dad have done terrible things and she’s such an adult like she claims to be, she would have met up with her uncle with no one around like I did and explain to him where she was coming from but she’s acting like a disrespectful brat just because she think that she’s so grown now so she has no right what so ever, her mom should have checked her for coming at the man who was there for her when her own dad set them up for jail time. I agree to some extent because all of these kids have had a level of disrespect through the years that I thought was crazy...but I also understand Gia at this point. If you take away that cultural elder dynamic, she's not intentionally disrespectful here, just standing her ground. She's speaking quite calmly and letting it be known that certain things are not going to fly because she is an adult. I've had similar moments in my own family and I guess it's just a personal choice. For me, once the dysfunction gets to a certain point I felt I had a right to speak my peace as an adult. I was respectful, and even tiptoed on egg shells in my delivery out of that respect, but I still made my voice heard. I was also prepared for the possible repercussions though(i once had to temporarily leave home and stay with other family. Ish got REAL😅)... Thankfully, it all turned out okay but I was totally prepared for it to go south. It did take time too. Heated conversations turned into more thoughtful discussions over the years and things got better. Also, in this situation she's defending her father which is the elder in her life she should have the utmost respect for.

It's important for Gia to let Joe know how she feels. As an adult woman now, I applaud her for not letting her uncle use an aggressive tone with her as he did when she was a kid. It's commendable because it means she's not going to let any guy talk to her the way she watch her dad and uncle talk to their wives. She could have worded it differently, "Do you mind lowering your tone" or whatever but I get it. Adults don't like being challenged by mini adults because they will always view them as kids.

Gia needs to understand that her parents’ behavior and activities caused a lot of damage around them and took so much away from other members of their family. Criticism of their behavior is something “a wise old soul” would understand and an adult would learn to deal with. Gia's right, the way Joe started the conversation was confrontational in his tone of voice. No matter what, everyone is due respect, pulling the age and the godfather card is wack and dumb. Period. Yes and no. I get both. No one is allowed to say a word about my mother except for us kids like I literally want to get violent. But at the same time, my nephews need to pipe down about grown people’s business because they weren’t there. They don’t know. They couldn’t know. They don’t really have an informed opinion. This is where there's a generational disconnect, bc I understand Gia's perspective. Ppl like to use the fact that they are older as a means to control the way you can act, when you're younger than them. They also like to use it as a means to feel inevitably wiser, smarter, and altogether correct than you'll ever have the chance to be, before you even speak a word on a given matter. Despite this, Gia made a valid point imo, which is that she wants to have a rational conversation with respect, rather than being talked down to, just because she's a niece and a 20 year old. She didn't say anything outlandish other than just wanting Joe to speak to her like the adult she is, rather than the kid she used to be. If you take away that cultural elder dynamic, she's not intentionally disrespectful here, just standing her ground. She's speaking quite calmly and letting it be known that certain things are not going to fly because she is an adult. I've had similar moments in my own family and I guess it's just a personal choice. For me, once the dysfunction gets to a certain point I felt I had a right to speak my peace as an adult. I was respectful, and even tiptoed on egg shells in my delivery out of that respect, but I still made my voice heard. I was also prepared for the possible repercussions though(i once had to temporarily leave home and stay with other family. Ish got REAL😅)... Thankfully, it all turned out okay but I was totally prepared for it to go south. It did take time too. Heated conversations turned into more thoughtful discussions over the years and things got better. Also, in this situation she's defending her father which is the elder in her life she should have the utmost respect for.
So coming from a strict Latino family as well , gives your uncles & aunts the right to talk to their nieces however they want to ? It's important for Gia to let Joe know how she feels. As an adult woman now, I applaud her for not letting her uncle use an aggressive tone with her as he did when she was a kid. They always had they father on a pedestal, the issue is when people becomes adults they don’t see that they see you as a child. Like she said I’m an adult treat me and talk to me like one, how they feel about they father is nothing new to nobody go back and look.

I agree with Gia she spoke to him with respect and she didn’t want anybody disrespecting her dad she has every right to say that Joe should not speak on her father if he loves her and is an Adult he should act like it and have some self respect and consideration for the “little girl” he claims to love. I disrespect yourself publicly Joe by using her dad and mother for a story line. She also said she hasn’t spoken to u for 6months so u clearly are just there to use them for a check

I completely understand Joe’s feelings and views. Gia needs to understand and not sugarcoat the actions of her father. My father went to prison for 13yrs ruined our entire family and cause so many problems. Put my Mom and sister through the worst. People are allowed to express their feelings especially when it hurt them personally. I’m team Joe on this.

Not at all ...Gia is not stupid. She know exactly who her father is. She doesn't need people to keep on talking about her father yrs later and throwing it in her face, especially when she's trying to heal. Joe needs to be an adult and leave it alone.

Gia is not the one! lol. This is her setting a boundary. Just because you’re older than me doesn’t mean that you deserve my respect. Respect is earned. The older generations are too hush hush and phony about stuff like this. She never once raised her voice at her uncle she only said to stop disrespecting her father when he’s no where to be found.
His respect doesn't need to be earned at this point. He's literally the respect. He stepped up. He was the one that was there for her, when the man who should've been there failed her.

I honestly understand how Gia feelings about her own father I get that but at the same time Joe was standing up for her and his sister also. But at the end of the day family is family and respect is respect
