hey man, nice video. with mine i feel the gears while spinning the handle. only if i loosen the starbrake so much, that the spool doesnt move while i spin the handle, it is smooth as it used to. i opened and lubricated it, but that didnt make a change. all the gears look as good as new, no broken teeth or something damaged. do you, or someone else reading this :) maybe know what could be the cause for that?
Great video, I saw that you said you’re using 20lbs braid in one of the comments. I’m using 30lbs power pro now. Are you having any issues with it digging in or casting with a little power behind it? Also what brand are you using?
No problems at all, it is the best casting reel I've had, specially for light lures, maybe you have to use your line some more time, usually when it's new it's stiffer
I couldn't tell you if I can't check it but if you don't have experience opening reels I'd recommend you take it where you bought it and have it replaced
What lbs test do you use with it? Do you think 20lbs fluro is too heavy for the mgl spool?I want to use it for an all purpose my first expensive ish setup. Also what rod did you pair with it? Thanks
I use it with 20lb braid main line, and 15lb fluoro leader, this is just because this reel casts light lures great and it is paired with my Jerkbait medium power rod, I think it should easily handle 20lb fluoro, it casts great heavy and light lures.
@@damianflores7868 it's a super short leader, I don't want it going into any of the guides, maybe 1 and a half foot, it's personal preference but I don't like the feel, the memory or the price of fluoro, you can give it a try and decide for yourself if you like it or if you prefer direct fluoro
Handle popped off on my 70xg a couple weeks ago, had to get a new drag spring because I lost it. Now when I try to put it back on it won't stay on...keeps coming off. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I see you twist the star drag both ways after putting handle on, what's goin on there?
Nice work! Is the levelwind worm gear metal?
Thanks! It is plastic, but I've had some reels with plastic worms and never had a problem
@@rodrigomurguia6476 it was looking like plastic but I couldn’t imagine that on a $200 Shimano reel 😳
@@ElBote54 yes, even the metanium which is $450 has plastic worm gear and antares which is shimano's most expensive reel
@@rodrigomurguia6476 I know, first hand, that the CU mgl 150’s are fantastic casters 😃
@@rodrigomurguia6476 you know, it could be that plastic, being forgiving, might avoid disaster with sand and small rocks, an advantage over metal
can cast saltwater ?

Hello , I bought a brand new 150mgl. The drag star has a lot of side to side play. When I crank it the handle spin uneven. Is it defective? Thank you.

@@rodrigomurguia6476 how long is your leader? Ive never used braid as main line but heard it’s cheaper. Do you spool it half and half?

Why after i press the thumb bar , the line come out with drag? Meaning it is not free to unspool line.
Im sorry man, Its hard to understand your reels problem without having it physically
have a plastic component👎
