  • Ryobi finally redesigned the amazing 18v one+ Bench light. This may seem like a tool that is not that exciting, however this tool ROCKS! the flexibility of the light compounding with the two light panels on different axis makes this light ideal for so many situations that you really cannot afford to not to have it!

There is a third hook that works great for under the hood on the old one

@1700 lumens you would think it would be twice as powerful as the old one.. It's clearly not, maybe 10% brighter at best. Also the old one was never marketed to be affixed under a car hood, It was mostly marketed to affix to rafters and and beams (2"x4"s) and things of that nature. Also you can attach it to a line and other objects. Id say judging from your video the new one is worth the extra 10 bucks. But the lumens on the old one and new one is all marketing and not what your actually getting. Good comparison video you made, Cheers.

The hook system is definitely an improvement, as is the 4 light modes. Being able to swivel the hook attachment and then use the hook can make a huge difference.

The old one has that giant base but isnt hybrid. The new one had the opportunity to be hybrid and chose a smaller base. This is a set and forget light for a lot of people, why not have the option to plug it in for 90% of the use

Definite improvement. Almost doubled the lumens. The hooks are much more usable. Ryobi took a good product & made it better.

I didn't really notice a difference in the lights. I like the 3 mode because I sometimes just use the single lower light. The new hook looks nice the old hooks didnt use much. Illumination level the same.

One thing I like about Ryobi is they continually update/improve products. In addition to making it brighter, I hope is they fixed the hinge which is a big problem on the old one. My hinge broke but I got a new one under warranty. Once your warranty is over, well you'll have to buy another. New one is nice but I have so many Ryobi lights I doubt I'll buy the new one, unless/until my now "previous model" breaks again.
As for the underhood light, I don't really recommend these for that. It's not that ideal. I was able to pick up the DeWalt underhood on a good deal. Ryobi doesn't make one so can't wait around for years until they decide to. If you work on cars a lot it really helps to have a proper/dedicated underhood light. I do still use other lights under the hood at times but more pointing directly at things than an overall/general underhood lighting solution.

Have the old model. Very convenient. Two things I dislike:
    1) Doesn't memorize the last setting. It's on my tiny work table at a slightly more than 90% angle, so the top is almost horizontal. The setting I use the most is the top only being on. If the button is also on, it kind of blind me. Problem is, this is the 3rd setting. Each time I turn it on, I have to cyle to the last setting (only top on).
    2) Button is a bit hard to press.
BTW, you can turn it off by holding the botton 3 sec.

I already have two of the ole P727 but I like what the new one has that eventually I'll get this one too. Still gonna keep the old ones. I wonder if anyone out there have mounted the old ones up using the screw hole slots?

Try using manal settings on your camera so the camera won't adjust for bighter or dimmer light when comparing lights or dim to bright settings. You'll get to see the real difference between the two lights.

Is there any improvement in the pivot joint between the light sources?
On mine it got to loose for the lights to stand vertically and it couldn't be tightened because it's fake screw heads on the sides. Ultimately the green insets broke up and fell out as well. I still use the light for detailed table top work but that's not very often anymore. Great light just critical failure areas for me.

Hey man, it is pronounced RYE-o-bee, not REE-o-bee. From the horse's mouth, Ryobi themselves say it.
