  • It is a new version of my LEGO 3D Milling Machine. It was developed to participate in the WRO 2011 - Abu Dhabi in the "LEGO Robotics Experts" area.
There is a lot of improvements, but the most important is that it is running leJOS with a linked PC. Now there is no more file size restrictions. All the data is in the computer that sends small amount of coordinates to the NXT every loop.
    Sorry... No building instructions.

+invertedlow I agree but In the spirit of Charles Darwin, the Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives. Darwin Award winners eliminate themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chances of long-term survival. so if he kills himself like the reard he is the could definitely win 1st prize.

No this is a 3 axis cnc milling machine, XZA, A is a indexable head along the X axis. A lathe uses the turning action to cut, where this has a milling head mounted on the Z axis.

Honestly if you could figure out the more structurally integral pieces you could make metal molds out of them and rebuild this or the older one to work on more materials than the foam, or make a genuine 3d printer out of the previous model if you could figure out a way to incorporate a heating element into it rather than a drill bit.

it must be able to produce copper wires by making the components of a tool & die machine that is used to make copper wires by using the drawing process. The die can be used for drawing copper wires only after it has been hardened and casehardened by carburization or nitriding for it's most basic electrical components, it's milling operation must be modified into a mill-drill and grinding operation for optical mechanical operations like lenses, optical measuring/aligning/positioning devices, etc.

The fact that this is made out of legos blows my mind, but i wonder, mechanically speaking, have you considered trying to add a 4th axis of movement? like a pivot on the carriage that would allow you for example to hollow out the inner surface of the spiral piece shown in the video?

Technically there were 3-axis of motion - X, Z and C. The c axis wasn't freely spinning, it was rotated in coordination with the x and z axis.
