The fact that this conversation actually delves deep into the psyche of Hanekawa and describes her character in a way we had yet to see is honestly a magnificent piece of writing on nisioisin's part, and one of the most creative character development scenes I've ever seen.
Yeah, I didn't really watch the series (only scenese from here and there) but just this one single scene is enough to see its brilliant writing. A fantastic case of "show, don't tell," I must say.
I agree the scene is deep and all, but I didn't see how her character developed here.. It's totally the same but just showing more sides of her character, you can't call that character development
"You mean the stuff that's poured on salads occasionally?" "I heard rumors of people putting stuff on their fried eggs." "I'm just saying it's the same whether it has favor or not." "They say secrets don't come from questioning, but slips of the tongue." What a fu**king brilliant dialogue
This scene has always stuck with me. Idk why. It’s definitely one of the more ~interesting~ conversations in Monogatari. You find out so much about Hanekawa from just a mundane conversation.
monogatari is one of my favorite shows for stuff like this. its unique creative writing thats fun and new and interesting and develops characters in such a fun way… i can watch monogatari for hours. thank you for uploading!
Hanekawa accepts everything in front of her, food, people or circumstances. Honestly a powerful way to live but taken to this extreme is unhealthy. I myself am a very accepting person, people in my company have the luxury to be themselves but sometimes I worry that I am an enabler. Perhaps it is best to accept only things that you can't change. Maybe complaints doesn't have to be a cloud of misery but a catalyst for change, for example.
nah, most people are d!cks, but you can not change them and most cases they need to change by themselfs, so you does not need to worry to change them, that does not mean you do not solve things, you just take the option of "i can not change this, so i just accept it to not burden me", but is better if you can get things better, solutions always pays off.
@@adjiee. That hanekawa just accepts everything as given to her. Even if it is as bitter and plain as black coffee. If you give it to her, she will eat it. "Even if it doesnt have dressing. @@allysoneduardo8477 yeah, it’s senjougahara (purple hair girl) analyzing hanekawas personality through her preferences with food, the way that she doesn’t season her food represents how she never tries to improve her own situation
@@Yeetbc Is it not also implied that she simply eats whatever she can get because her 'parents' don't feed her? IIRC She somehow ended up with her stepfather and his new wife (so... none of her real parents) and they basically just let her exist in the same house as them, without providing any kind of care whatsoever. She doesn't even have a bedroom. She sleeps in a hallway. Edit: googled her. It's actually a bit more complicated. Rather than just hunger, her not bothering with condiments is a sign that she has no standards or preferences. There is nothing in the world that she actively dislikes, because she's supressing all of her emotions so as to not cause trouble for anybody. This naturally causes _huge_ problems.
@@iamnuff1992 that’s what makes the conversation so well done, a conversation that on the surface level would just be “oh she just doesn’t like adding condiments,” is actually a somewhat disturbing character trait in context.

A part of me really wanted this to be a real ship, but alas, our girl gets neither koyokoyo or gahara..... Well at least she becomes successful in the future.....
It's much deeper than that. The conversation about food is just a cover, they're actually talking about Hanekawa's personality here. The way she would eat anything given to her is a way of saying that she would accept anything that comes her way. She would never revolt or argue. In the longer scene, she says that all food tastes the same weather seasoned or not; which could mean she has lost her sense of taste or rather her ability to form opinions. She sleeps in the hallway because that was the place assigned to her, she eats whatever she gets without tasting it, she fell in love with the first person she met in school. A real tragedy of a character, I must say.
@@mysticjp7684 it is a metaphor on how Hanekawa doesn't really care about flavor in life, she just accepts whatever happens. Always trying to be perfect without actually having a personality. That's one of her core problems as a person
Not really. Actually she directly asks Hanekawa about whether she simply ENJOYS her food without any extra flavours - this response would've satisfied her. But Hanekawa's problem is not "adding or not adding sauce", it's about disregarding the concept of flavour entirely (that concerns both meals and life itself).

YT usually takes it down. So enjoy while it last, it's a really good scene.

It feels very tarrontino in that way doesn't it

I thought these type of people never existed in real life until gigg UK, my reaction was the same as Senjougahara.
Damn.Garnt’s hanekawa.THATS why he likes monogatari so much
i still cant believe people like that exist BUT THEN I SAW THAT GIGGUK IS ONE
"How sexy do I look in these cook outfits?"
"How many love confessions does Senjougahara-san get per day?"
Thank you for bringing this back
Can’t believe Hanekawa eats food like she’s british
"Mayo or catsup for your fish and chips?"
"Baked beans, please"
🤮
Hanekawa looks so much younger with the haircut but it suits her way more
