Jarre/Galway - Yie Ar Kung-Fu (C64) [Title Music]

- Martin Galway's title music to 'Yie Ar Kung-Fu' on the Commodore 64 which is of course an arrangement of Jarre's 'Magnetic Fields'; and a pretty marvellous one at that, if a lil on the long side.
Stunning. How Galway got this sound out of a SID chip with just 3 channels is a miracle. Unbelievable and still amazing 30 odd years later.
You can hear this song in an endless loop and it never gets boring!
Just listen to this... this is maybe the finest moment in the C-64 games music history!
Even though it's been over 20 years since I really played the game (emulators don't count), this is an incredible piece of history of C-64 composing!
Imagine, that Martin Galway actually programmed the music with assembly code instead of using i.e. Midi!
C64 arranging maybe?
This tune is the ultimate saw and square wave heaven !
The power of the music of the commodore 64!!
Galway was a real wizard with c64 music, one of my faves
This was the intro. I remember listening to this for several minutes, before even the game started.
A masterpiece in my view.
Thankfully it took time to load games in those days. Many cases the loader was better than the game itself :)
Magical. I heard this one long before I heard Jarre's original and thus THIS, to me, is the original. Sorry J.M. :p
So true, the same goes for me!
Speelde deze over en weer, die met die polsstok was lastig en die vrouw die met die hartjes gooide, weet d'r naam niet meer, was erg lastig te verslaan, blijft een van m'n meest favorieten spellen op de c64, herinneringen vloeien weer terug
Its bought tears of emotion , hearing this again.
I never had this game, so I didn't hear the music until I got an Amiga demo disk called something like 'The 100 Best Remembered C64 Tunes'. Same with the Arkanoid music, also on the disk. I think the length of the track is just fine, doing justice both to Galway's skill and JMJ's fantastic original composition.
I remember that demo! - was superb! - even had loads of C64 screen shots too! - I've got it somewhere, will have to dig it out.... :D
This is definitely the TOP in C64 music. No, wait, scratch this. This is definitely the TOP in video games music! Havn't heard a game music that good in over 20 years!
Martin Galway did the impossible with this tune - using a three channel SID chip, he made it better than Jean Michel Jarre's original. Genius.
I wonder if Jarre has heard this version
You have no idea what you're talking about...
Better that Jarre's original ?
Lol, this is nowhere NEAR Jarre's original. Take off your C64 rose-tinted glasses, the C64 Galway track is good for the limited 3-channel SID, but to say it's better is just fanboy talk.
@@DKTronics70Let us agreed to disagree then. The Jarre version is much more subdued and anticlimactic than the SID one, particularly after the preceding tracks on Les Chants Magnetiques, which are far more bombastic.
@@DKTronics70 Really, at some points it IS better!
This brings back great memories. I had this for the C64 and loved the music.
The pinnacle of C64 music. Period.
Ocean loader 2, this title tune and some catchy in-game music, this game is a real musical tour de force.
I always used this tune to psych me up before playing as a kid. Games back then really could encourage your imagination. Those were the days man...
Absolutely superb interpretation. Probably my favourite C64 music of all time :)
Love it, the first 5 seconds always blew me away, the rest is great as well 100%
This is my favourite C64 tune, I often loaded the game just to listen to this music (for half an hour or more). I like Jarre's music too and I'm curious how he would respond to this masterpiece, I'm sure he would like it... :)
Best fucking Music of C64 Times! Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much for uploading this Netto! The first time I heard this this tune was from a primitive C64 text/gfx editor where your every keypress is recorded and played back. This is the music my brother and I chose to accompany our scrawlings all those decades ago.
It's loaded with nostalgia for us and I hope to record and upload those comedic scribblings for your enjoyment. I'm sure my brother still has the '64 and the disk as not 5 years ago he pulled it out to look.
Thanks!
what a tune jeane michel jarre + martin galway = classic in my book
Martin Galway was brilliant
This wins the award for most convincing impression of more than three voices on a SID track, ever.
Back when nobody and I do mean nobody gave a shit about breaking copyright laws. That said Jarre was the only artist that actively encouraged it with Music For Supermarkets.
I haven't been chilled like i am right now never in my entire life!!
This is a magnetic & atmospheric music which brings great memories from the past, thank u very much for uploading this!! this is the game of my childhood.
same here buddy !
I hear this on the day I die. Those were such golden years :)
0:53 Am I the only one who waited for that chord when hearing Magnetic Fields IV for the first time in its original Jarre version after having listened to Yie Ar Kung Fu's title a thousand times? It's the sole thing where this version is actually far superior than the original :)... Other than that I love both versions.
Correct!
Listen to that wonderful distorted beginning... and not a single circuit-bent Arduino controlled Gameboy or VST plugin in sight.
Jean Michel Jarre Song! "Magnetic Field Part 4"
Brings memories flooding back from many years ago of my gaming days on the C64, thanx. :)
I've Been a JMJ Jarre fan even before this version came out, even so I love this version too.
One of the best C64 music.
Martin Galway was a God when it came to the SID chip. He made the most amazing music on the c-64
Great game. Jean Michel Jarre Magnetic Fields 4 music 👍
Master Tune !!!
Simply fantastic! Galway is the undisputed King of SID.
First time listen and loving it :)
class tune Im getting all misty eyed!
wow, thank god for youtube so i can hear this again, hey im 20 again!!. thanks.
Never played the game, i was more an Exploding Fist or International Karate guy. BUT the music for this game is just the best. Galway rules.
When i wanted to play this game i ended up not playing it but keep listening to the theme song.
POWERFUL
sympa le mec qui fait passer la musique de JMJ pour la sienne XD
Galway takes Jarres tune and koncks it up 15 notches and beyond.
Amazing music from Martin Galway :-)
Martin Galway rules c64 music.
@Phacioco89 probably in the 2080's as a chipmunk.lol
fantastic tune. the 80's, sigh, decade of my youth.
So this was Jarres doing all the way? damn him, damn him i say!!!!
gReaT ! 👍🏼
I'm so glad I found this, it's been in my head for years, too.
But is it just me, or is this slower than the version I heard way back when? I taped the music off of my friend's computer and listened to it as a kid sometimes, but lost the tape, but I'd be willing to bet money that the version I had was faster (and not just because of the tape pitch problem, either).
I think the time is right.
It's Magnetic Fields IV.
♥
Its a nice remake of "Magnetic Fields Part 4" from Jean-Michel Jarre.
Epic! Epic!
Please kill me! Maybe I got reborn in the 80s again...
same for me
@kbdkbd99: Me too! Since 1988 or so.....(23 years)
Hi there is there somewhere where i can see all the arrangments lists of that old soundtracks? I read somewhere that gaming music is very undervalued cause that reason
1 downvote? did Jarre not approve?
Jarre definitily doesn't have anything against this. But some people just have different taste.
there's no shame in that.
Did you have an NTSC version of the C64? That could be the reason.
i thought it's chronologie 1 until 1:03 :D
Too young for this but it looks like the father of street fighter
it was a shitty and funny game :-D with great music...
Way of the Exploding fist was the best martial arts game on the C64.
So both of you arew saying you were slow back then as well? Wasn't easy game tho.
Still remember beating it with my trusty tac-2.
This song kicks the shit out of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and the rest of the ever-more recent trashy music producing "artists".
