- 9-BALL - COREY DEUEL and DARREN APPLETON were matched up in an early round of the 2022 Derby City Classic 9-Ball division. Deuel, 44, a former U.S. Open 9-Ball champion, was always in the running for top honors, consistently beating the best with a FargoRate of 778. Appleton, 46, holding both World 9-Ball and U.S. Open 9-Ball titles, just days prior finished 3rd out of over 400 players in the 1-Pocket division. This one was a thriller. I promise.
Mark Wilson and Jeremy Jones verified the action.

GREAT MATCH!!!!!
Who knew Corey was about to go beast mode, at 5-1, it looked like he didn't stand a chance...... At 7-5, you could tell Darren was in a fight!
mark wilson and Jeremy jones again just the best! Wish all pool commentators would emulate you guys... thank!
Two experts conversing is so much better than the standard idiot and expert combo.
Look who is in the stands watching? SVB Is watching the 1.000 shooting of the prince of pool Corey Deuel rack 10.
DA is my favorite player. His stroke is so smooth and his transition is flawless! Snap off the 2023 DCC DA!!
Get a .938 and lose that's brutal how good do you have to play to beat these guys lol good shooting Corey
Great match! Thanks Pat Be Safe
Great match
I enjoyed this match. Great play by both players. Clinic!
Great match, great commentary.
Thanks!

It’s curious that they inform Corry of the prohibition of jump cues instead of waiting for him to shoot and calling a foul
I agree.
It was fun coming from Kamsas to Davenport and getting bowman and kucharo for 5 grand.
At 57:27 Appleton made a ball on the break, why did he lose his turn?
3 balls need to cross the break line (headstring). Only the 2 got passed it, and any ball pocketed count as pass the headstring, one ball went so only two balls get pass the headstring
What is the red stuff on Corey's cue. It's look like help the stroke. Anyone know it where to get it.
If you find out please let me know. Thanks.
@geraldchalloner306 15:00 it's cueslide
Hard to believe Corey is 44. time flies
And you ? 56
does anyone have to approve devices like the cue slide?
I approve. Glove does the same.
@@ibanez33150 ok right. i’m not saying it shouldn’t be allowed, was curious if these devices have to be approved.
@@jasonblais1667 indeed they do need approval
Where can we get the cue sleeve?
there was such big talk about Cory earlier on but it turns out he had a pretty mediocre career I hope he has another job because half a million in prize money over 20 years is poverty. I remember how enthusiastic he used to be always smiling now I look at him and he just looks like a tired journeyman.
Gambling sir…. Def takes action.
Action on the side… lessons for cash… sponsorship.. he’s ite.
man, i love seeing Corey be so sharp and staying focused. he such a beautiful game that when he's fully present, i could watch him shoot all day.
I managed a pool hall in Toledo in the late 90s/early 2000s. I remember getting a call to get someone to play this hot shot from Detroit (Corey Deuel) for min $5k a match. He had just cleaned out every player at Glass City Billiards. That was an incredible weekend, even more so now seeing how CD's career went forward
My late husband was a great player from Fostoria, Ohio. Played a lot in Toledo. Ted Elias. You may not know him. He passed in 98..
I remember Corey & Dee Adkins when they were like 15 & coming to Sleepless in Sandusky & taking everyone's money.
@@patsyelias8732 Sleepless in Sandusky! Now that’s a great memory as I grew up there!
I didn’t know Teddy. I am sorry for your loss though
@@patsyelias8732 Ted was a legend I’ve heard of him and I’m from New York sorry for your loss . Ronny Allen told a story about him .
Corey is from Columbus Ohio....quit making up stories
Fluid play from both players. Excellent match.
Man this is high quality pool here
beautiful pool from both players. Would have been even more beautiful if at 37:17 he got good shape on the 3! Would have been difficult shotmaking, but flawless position play.
I'm sure there were other instances, but that one stuck out the most to me
The way these Pros play under pressure is Unbelievable
Question: if the slider falls off Corey's stick and lands on the cloth without touching a ball, is that a foul? Of course it is if it touches a ball when playing all-ball fouls. but what about cue-only fouls? It fell off in a one-pocket game and Corey conceded right there.
I saw that… it was called a foul 🤷♂️
what is that shaft Corey is using? Does not look like a Pro Shaft. ferrule is extra short.
Congrats Corey
15:00 "Corey using a red clue slide here..." I've never seen a cue slide... that looks pretty useful. I never really liked wearing a glove.
I played in terrible sticky conditions once and got a quarter sized coin wrapper from the bar man and dropped it over my shaft. It looked real ghetto but worked well enough to win the event.
this thing does exactly the same than a glove with cut fingers, so I don't really see the point
@@AngrierGorilla for a match I can agree but if your messing around at the bar this would be nice. Don't have to take a glove on and off when your not playing
@@briana323 I always put it in my pocket between matches
@@AngrierGorilla One difference would be that you can actually feel the table with your bridge hand. That makes a difference for me.
Where can I buy that same cue slide Corey is using?
Looks like a cable management sleeve just cut into a small piece.
@@bjamesc1 it’s an actual product for pool.
I would like to know that as well. If you find out please let me know. Thanks.
Hell of a match
Great match!!
omg. mark wilson can't go five minutes without saying "smooth cueing action"
I love corey, but some of the racks he made it unnecessarily hard for himself
Darren scratched.. if not he would have won possibly. both Great players. love to watch them both.
En effet ils donnent toujours de bons matchs ensemble
THAT was some pool.
Qslides shouldn't be allowed
Corey wins! 🏆 as usual? 😁
Wonderful instructive play and commentary. OUTSTANDING!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice match!
It's time to Appleton to win something
As soon as he recovers from is heart attack. He was also in an induced coma
Did Darren alway played that fast? I mean, Im watching at 1.25x speed, but still, he seems to really be in the zone!

Duel's looking really good...
What is the name of the slide Corey used?
Philadelphia
Cueslide
That was a great match, nice comeback for Corey Duel.
3 balls pass the head string rule is ridiculous.
I agree.
agreed, it's too random, with balls sometimes stopping each other. If they want to make the break harder, in addition to the 9 on the spot, just make break from the central box
@@AccuStats there might be a dead ball into a pocket but everything else is luck and the breaker gets punished.
@@AngrierGorilla if they want to eliminate the break advantage just have the pros play 10 Ball.
@@JohnS-il1dr Matchroom only wants 9-ball. However they listened to me... 😁
Corey and his gimmick device.
That was a tough game
I met Darren outside having a cig at the super billiards expo six seven years ago. Really nice guy.
For a non compliant break, is it the opponents option to shoot? Or is it their turn no questions asked?
Opponents option. If the opponent gives it back, the breaker has to play it as it is, and can't push
What's that little diamond they keep removing after the break?
Racking templet.
38:41 *Great Commentary don't' even aware of Rules !* 🤣🥵
Awwww!
@ 57:43, Why does Corey have a shot when Darren sinks the 1 ball off the break? (Am Australian so still learning these rules).
Non compliant break. A combination of 3 balls has to either get pocketed or pass the head string.
One of the newer rules is you have to get a certain number of balls past the side pocket......stops the soft break. I don't like it, but my opinion doesn't matter. Good luck with your game.
What color is that dotted cue ball and what brand?
it is a Diamond Billiards cue ball, a new design.
Why are they racking the 9 on the spot?
Slightly harder to make the corner ball.
Tournament requirement.
Is anyone able to tell me why Corey isn’t in the mosconi cup anymore? Like did he just not feel like doing it
He’s not ranked high enough.
Didn't he sub for Earl when the pearl was selected but either got covid or was exposed to it and had to pull out. Damn, Earl was loaded for bear.
Why is the shot at 54:30 a foul? Thanks.. Sorry one more, 57:35 why is that break a foul, he pocketed the one ball on the break and didnt scratch, yet it was a foul? Thanks again.
After contacting the object ball the cue ball or another ball has to hit a rail. If he had thinned the two ball on the way in it would have been a good hit. The break was a foul because three balls have to pass the head string where they're breaking from. This rule is to disallow soft breaks. Darren was unlucky
@@d_page2049 Awesome thank you.
@@d_page2049 actually illegal break and not a foul
