I visited that canyon in Iceland just a few months ago. During mid day it is packed. We didnt make it there till closer to 8:30pm just because of how our schedule was and we were only there with about 5 other people. The sun is out all the time so it wasnt an issue. One man said the best sun for pictures is at noon, but then there are hundreds of other people around. I didnt go to Iceland for the pictures. I went for the experience with my husband. So we went to the popular tourist places much later in the day and avoided the crowds.

Yeah we went to Iceland last summer and we went to that gorge in the middle of the day and there was only like 2 other people. I don’t think the spot is very well known and if it is I don’t think most people can be bothered to go since it was in the middle of nowhere. It was worth it though, beautiful gorge.
