  • In this video we answer a common questions we get from new shooters and students, what should I carry in my range bag? This is a personal thing and ultimately you may carry different things than we do. We show you what Dave carries in his range bag and why he uses the style of "bag" he does. We hope this helps or gives you some ideas for your range bag. Also we want to hear your ideas and what you carry in your bag, please leave a comment below.
    The case is an SKB iSeries 2015-10

    Thanks for the video! Very informative. And I must say, you are just a nice guy! You’re the kind of person who makes people want to come out to the range.

    I've been doing the same thing for years, having a range box is one of the things I took away from the military and have implemented into my civilian life. One recommendation I have and might help you out is that Pelican makes the lid inserts for the 1610 models and a few others. I use Pelican and SKB for a number or storage solutions. The pelican lid insert can either be drilled directly into the lid or you can attach it with velcro as well. What I have done is ordered a few different inserts and I have each one set up according to what I'm taking to the range. For example if I'm taking an AR then I have the lid liner already set up with AR tools/ OTTIS cleaning kit, a few extra bolts and various packs or AR quick repair/spring replacement parts and a Gerber AR tool. My precision rifle insert is a little more bare bones but in that one I carry Cleaning solvents, patches chamber rod guide, bore snakes to let others use and an extra Bobro Mount. I have not had one ever fail me but you never know, I figure be prepared for the worst. The last suggestion I have is that in the main compartment of the case I carry 2 of the wheeler fat wrenches. one set to 65 and the other to 30 inch pounds that way I am able to use them quickly, lastly I carry 2 Leupold magnetic bore sighters. Great video either way.

      Thanks for watching, I used to use the lid insert but I found that it wasn't as modular as I liked. The Velcro and Maxpedition pouches that I'm using now work much better for me. I do something similar with the various pouches that I can just pop in and out depending on what I need. I no longer use fat wrench. They have been known to be very inaccurate and unreliable. I carry a borka adjustable torque driver in my bag it is a far superior tool. You should check out our review on that tool.

    Even though I like cables for cleaning, it's pretty hard to push out a stuck casing with one, so it's always a good idea to keep a few cleaning rods on hand.

    add a cleaning rod to your bag. the reason being a couple times i had casings stuck in my handgun barrel or chamber and had to use a cleaning rod to knock it out.

    Judging from the comments plus the questions I have is what and where did you get your various "pieces and parts?" When you make a video like this it would be a great idea if you left links or at least name brands/descriptions of your items so your viewers wouldn't have to ask time and again for names, sources, etc. Otherwise, a very helpful video! Thank you for your up-load.

    I was at Home Depot and grabbed some of their Huskey tool bags and I have had them for the past 5 years...seriously they are starting to piss me off because I want the excuse to buy another gun bag... but they are pretty solid bags...since they were originally meant for tools they take all the weight I can throw at them...BIG plus is that no one thinks its a gun bag...I have my gun , ammo, competition rig, and 2 set of walker ears in one bag with room for targets, tape, and a staple gun... Tool bags are GREAT!!

      +Kaitlyn Chermak the tubes are from big box stores and are used for nuts and bolts. We have a video about them on our full30 channel. The pouches are various maxpedition pouches I'm not sure the models off hand. Thanks for the comment

      +Learning Firearms well said and I agree. BTW, would you have suggestions on "bags" I can neatly carry my gunsmithing tools?

    • @Learningfirearms
      @Learningfirearms  8 років тому +2

      I used to use a 5.11 gear bag that had a lot of pouches and pockets. It also had roll out organizers that worked pretty well. I used that when I would have to travel for a lot of repairs and service calls. Now that I set up shop the tool box in the back has become the new home to most tools. I would also look at a fishing tackle boxes, some of the plastic organizer bins can work great for small tools. The traditional tool boxes don't work very well for gunsmith type tools.

    Uggh! Bore snakes....
    I like the concept, but not the reality of them. I prefer to only use CLEAN patches, and be able to choose when I use a brush or not.
    Sure, someone might say....."well, you can clean a boresnake."
    Yeah, totally defeats the purpose of ease and convenience if you have to clean your boresnake on top of cleaning your gun!
