In Shadow's point of view, he sees Rouge as a companion. But in Rouge's point of view, she sees Shadow as someone who needs someone to be by his side, like a girlfriend. In Sonic 06, when Rouge said that even *IF* everyone will be against Shadow, she would always be on Shadow's side no matter what, she basically said that she loves him.

I always felt that Rouge's actions and affections for Knuckles were just flirtatious whims while her openness and behavior to Shadow indicated a deeper attraction that manifested as companionship.

Not gonna lie, although I’ve never seen shadow is the kind of guy that would be interested in romance, I could totally see him and Rouge being a couple.

I believe that's part of the appeal of this ship: Shadow doesn't seem like he would _normally_ be interested in that kind of thing, but one gets the feeling Rouge is the one character he'd make an exception for.
Everyone is bringing this up
Shadow is definitely NOT the type of guy who is interested in romance AT ALL, but I think he has a soft spot for Rouge just like he had a soft spot for Maria. He had a soft spot for Maria because of her kindness, gentleness, innocence and pure-hearted nature, while he has a soft spot for Rouge because Rouge is just as cynical as he became after Maria's death. And I think Shadow also has a soft spot for Cream, but ONLY in a friendship type of way because Cream reminds him of Maria.
Rouge in the canon world hasn't shown any love interest to Shadow though
@@_GAME_SHAHMEER Let's see--she compared him to Prince Charming in Sonic Battle, she (very flirtatiously) invited him to go treasure-hunting with her in Sonic Rivals (which he evidently accepted, since that's what they were doing in Sonic Free Riders), in Team Sonic Racing she said she could kiss him... Those are just the most blatant examples, though there are more.

He can, as shown in Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Sadly, Rouge wasn't playable in that game. Maybe she couldn't decide whether she wanted Shadow or Knuckles to be her skating partner (lol).

Ok, I’m not afraid to admit that I’m both a Shadouge and a Knuxouge shipper, but what I can’t do is come to a conclusion on which one is better! I mean, they’re both equally cute, in my opinion!
Shadouge has more to work with, imo.
When I was younger I would pick Shadouge in no time, but now that I'm an adult, I can't decide, no matter what...

On one hand Rouge can choose the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow the Hedgehog, who's immortal and depressed from losing a best friend, while on the other she can choose Knuckles, the last Echidna from his tribe, so she can either try to replace Maria, or try to save a species, so it's really a tough choice, if you think about it.
In the games, she spends more time with Shadow than anyone else so that decides it for me.

Ha, I knew that there was a reason why that this is my favorite ship in all of Sonic.
Its a toss up for me. Rouge is a funny character, definitely "Cat Woman" Vibe. Both Knuckles and Shadow are broody Batman types, but Knuckles is a lot more fun to tease as he has the most bombastic reactions. Shadow is more straightfoward, but it goes without saying that the only person he honestly puts up with for extended periods of time is Rouge. Regardless of feelings though, Rouge is like his moral compass that keeps him grounded as of late. Help him see the big picture at times, as his Vegeta level ego has endangered himself multiple times.

Shadouge is just weird, as far as I know, Rouge hasn't showed any love interest in Shadow at all, but in Knuckles only. She calles Knuckles "handsome" or "Knuckie" or other s***.
And _this_ is an excellent example of why getting your information from 4Kids Entertainment is a problem. In the Japanese version of Sonic X, Rouge never called Knuckles "Knuckie", and it was actually Shadow that she called "handsome".

3.) Blade (from Azure Striker Gunvolt, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX)

I feel like shadow wouldn't understand romantic relationships. I mean he might have a crush but he would probably be questioning it himself
I've read at least one Shadouge fanfic that handled it that way, actually--where he has a crush on Rouge but genuinely doesn't understand what he's feeling. It makes sense--Shadow's closest companions on the ARK were an old man (who was most likely a widower) and a little girl, so it's unlikely he had much instruction or experience in that area. There was some Japanese promotional art a few years back that showed Maria reading him the story of "The Princess and the Cowherd", so I'd guess that his only reference point for romance would be fairy tales like that, which wouldn't be of much practical use. Maybe he should visit Empire City and get some advice from Louie Montaigne (from Sonic Unleashed).
