Some type of "My other half Iblis survived inside you for so long it gave me the chance to maneuver through space and time and recreate myself, as if I was never gone to begin with" aah aah line is very in line with the franchise's history, wouldn't even make it into the top 20 most far fetched concepts we've seen. Then there's the fact that Sonic Team already wants him back and always had been. There are deleted scenes from Generations that tie Mephiles to the Time Eater (which was the original idea for the Time Eater too) and they were toying with connecting him to the Phantom Ruby too. Mephiles is liked inside of Sonic Team, they want him back. And of course, my strongest point. WE want him back, the fans. SEGA and Sonic Team have been incredibly receptive throughout the years and now undeniably more than ever before, almost every move they make feels fan-driven. Mephiles ALWAYS finds his way into conversations about returning villains, concepts or general Sonic discussions and he's arguably THE most requested character to be brought back in the entire franchise. The fans want Mephiles and the casuals will embrace him once introduced to him, not only is it not unlikely, it is likely to a near-inevitable degree.
Man I hope he comes back, would be sick to see. SxSG could be a chance for that but I think they'll keep it as close to the project shadow characters for the plot

Half of the top 10 was 06 and literally MOST of Shadow 101 was 06 and both videos showcased Mephiles in some way. Mephiles is in my opinion the best Sonic villain of all time, his name actually sounds similar to Mephistopheles aka Satan or the devil or whatever you wanna call him.
