  • Climbing mountains changes the world. Mountaineering is my religion. We are mountains. Marie-Pier Desharnais is an adventurer, a high-altitude mountaineer who climbs the highest peaks on the planet. She has reached the summit of Mount Everest, was the first woman to raise the Canadian flag at the top of K2, and became the first woman in the Americas to climb the highest volcano on each of the 7 continents (the "Volcanic Seven Summits").
Throughout her life, much of Marie-Pier’s journey has been about developing resilience, whether her own, or in her line of work. Marie-Pier is a tsunami survivor, a world traveler and a Québécoise woman who arrived in Qatar at a time when women empowerment was gaining a much-needed importance. Today, Marie-Pier wants to contribute to the footprint of pioneering women, by increasing the ratio of women to men on the highest peaks of the World. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
