Buona visione!
Hi MusicOffili and UA-camrs, in this special video, filmed at Zildjian Day in Rome, the great Mike Mangini, current drummer of Dream Theater, presents his drum kit, a setup obviously quite complex; a few time ago we published the interview (for those who have not seen • Mike Mangini - Intervi... ), Mike is definitely a musician very careful with his setup, his choices are personal and definitely will satisfy every nuance of the music he plays and his powerful playing.

can't help of watching it over and over again....its too awesome!! mangini you're a great drummer indeed!!
Whodares. You cant compare such insanely technical drummers to each other. They are in there on league, both of them. Its a matter of taste, and you obviously like lang WAY BETTER
Honestly, I never thought I'd see the day when a drummer of a metal band (or even any professional drummer) would use a ZBT in their setup. And then Mike Mangini came along.
Lmao I thought the same exact thing. I've learned you can get a nice sound out of them though when hit right. It shows how precise he is. :)
What amazed me about drummers like this is how they use all that stuff to it's full potential, when most drummers (myself included) barely make full use of a 5piece set
here,s to all those people that say he doesn,t use all his cymbals in his kit or that he is trying to make the kit look bigger than it needs to be this man is not just a "drummer" he is an insrtrumentalist
***** if you watch his playing carefully (for example illumination theory) 3.44 closed hats left open/close right humungous 21'' china left hand 4 time. That stuff blows my mind but dont get me wrong i was devastated when portnoy left the band because i had just started listening to them about 8 months previously to his desicion to leave (i know im a late bloomer ) what was i talking about? fuck it. Both extrordinary musicians DT ROCKS
Finally some thing I like from mangini
Damn, talk about precise and crisp double bass patterns, especially toward the end of the video from 4:23 and on. A lot of drummers out there can play those fast quadruple notes on the kick drum, but not with the same accuracy. When I think about certain characteristics that make Mike Mangini such a brilliant musician, some of the first thoughts that come to mind that best describe his overall outlook behind the kit are creativity, innovation, and most of all versatility. His hands are ridiculous, his feet are used for so much more than just double bass patterns, and the way he's able to put together groove with various poly-rhythms here and there is just sick. I actually remember when I heard that Mangini had become the new drummer for Dream Theater, and I recall thinking to myself how he was such a perfect fit for the band. Btw, anyone else find that Pearl Masters snare to sound kind of dry/cheap, or at least out of tune? I guess I like a little more "pop" sound in my snare, like how Pork Pie sounds. Anyways above all Mike Magnini is an absolute master at what he does!
Awesome!
I'm not a drummer, so I can't say much about his playing, but I can say mike's hair looks fantastic.
Nice foot work as usual from Mike. I like the zildjian chinas, but I feel a good old cheapo wuhan sound the best for China work, imo.
I have the same smooth, shining black and healthy long hair as mangini, thx L'Oreal.... XOXO
He sounds really good when he's not using triggers on everything.
0:30 Hey he actually got something i can afford
Hi, does anyone know which dish is under the china??? tanks
Is there Gavin version of this?
"Rather than putting ghost notes on the snare…"
*Still plays ghost notes on the snare*
Same old boring robotic beats nothing special about his playing at all. Take away the double bass drum and would sound empty and lifeless.
drumming is about making it all your own and that is what Mike has done
+Gerdean Louw Especially on DT songs that MP recorded. He doesn't try and mimic what MP did on a song and plays the songs but in his own way.
I could watch him play the opening to Illumination Theory for...ever
03:43: Illumination Theory
number 1
Watching Mangini play drums, talk about drums or drum parts, gear, theory, whatever is so fun.
The amazing thing with mangini is he created his own style … ppl can’t relate to it because not many can play or understand it.
I could watch this guy play all day, I have yet to see something he can’t do!
Mike the mother f n master Mangini is God
So great!!
So if Mike fucking mangini uses ZBTs, Why can't I?
WhoDarestheMAN gamer Why are you even on this video then
Mangini good
He doesn't mention what type of rides he uses ... does anyone know
Mike Russo the right one Is a ping ride I think
The Natural Ride is a 20” A Rock Ride and the other Brilliant one sounds like a 20” A Custom Medium Ride
I know the one on his rights is a 20 a rock ride. The other sounds like a regular 20 a custom ride. I can tell because of the wash and sound in the bell.
They cAll him a robot bec he is so precise
Definitely don't like his choices of hi-hats and crash cymbals
That snare sounds awful
I'm not that much of a drummer but I thought so too.
Why bc it’s tuned low??
