When I fist saw this MV, I was confused too(especially at the scene of clothes pile) like anybody else. However, as a Korean myself, at the moment when I were informed that there is a guess that the movie is about Sewol accident - a tragic disaster in which over 300 people (mostly high school students) died from ship rollover, I could understand almost all of the movies after I reviewed the movie again. I think any Korean could know because all koreans witnessed the tragedy through tv or other medium. Below are the symbolic objects within the movie and my reasonings; (maybe you already read similar explanations written by other netizens) train : means the sunken passenger liner ship carrying the students. At the start of the movie, one bts member knelt on the railroad and lowered his head on the snow fallen ground, listening to a honk of the train, meaning below ground (underseas) there still lies sunken ship. And within the train bts members portrayed the locked students who desparately are looking for a wayout, passing through one train cabin to another(each train cabin implying each ship cabin). However, when they finally arrived at the wayout they found another train is just passing by, without doing any rescue job for them. Abandoned and frustrated, the students lit with a match in the cabin and comforted each other. washer : The washers which you could find in the movie were employed to show that the students were drowned to death. That is, the students were drowned in the sea (just like drowned in the water of washer). clothes pile : means (dead) bodies of students; clothes represent drowned (washed by washer) bodies of students.

There is so much hidden meaning in the MV... The lyrics are also deep. RM said it's about missing friends and that they wanted to comfort many people. There are many references to other things, Snowpiercer (a movie about going against society to seek justice, etc), 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' is a novel about a Utopian society built on the suffering of one child. As well it is for the students that died in the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. Jin represents the students that passed, the stairwell scene shows him staying in one place while the other members continue on. This is to show how he is stuck in one place, while everyone else moves on and grows up.
I think that this video was just mainly emphasizing the point that eventhough you think you are alone in your struggles, it tells you that you are not, that you have people around you that have your back. Like in scenes that jimin/V/kookie/jin were shown being sad and alone at the 1st half but then at the latter half it was shown that those guys were not alone, that in the end, they were all together, probably ready to face the next chapter of their lives. Taehyung in the beginning was a survivor and he felt guilt that he left his friends (victims that died in the accident) behind, Jimin found a victim's pair of shoes lying on the beach and knew it was his friend's so he hung it on a tree to show that person can never walk in those shoes again. The scene where Jin was left below the staircase and the rest of the members were walking up the stairs shows that the survivors are growing up and moving on without him since he was a victim. You don’t know what the actual song means…
There is so much hidden meaning in the MV... The lyrics are also deep. RM said it's about missing friends and that they wanted to comfort many people. There are many references to other things, Snowpiercer (a movie about going against society to seek justice, etc), 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' is a novel about a Utopian society built on the suffering of one child.
As well it is for the students that died in the Sewol Ferry Tragedy.
Jin represents the students that passed, the stairwell scene shows him staying in one place while the other members continue on. This is to show how he is stuck in one place, while everyone else moves on and grows up.
I recommend watching the explanation/theory video. It speaks about all the references...
I think that this video was just mainly emphasizing the point that eventhough you think you are alone in your struggles, it tells you that you are not, that you have people around you that have your back. Like in scenes that jimin/V/kookie/jin were shown being sad and alone at the 1st half but then at the latter half it was shown that those guys were not alone, that in the end, they were all together, probably ready to face the next chapter of their lives. Maybe the shoes in the tree symbolized them leaving their struggles/previous chapter of the lives? LOL. Just my musings. Great reaction girls! :)
Saw online that the pile of clothes might refer to Christian Boltansky's Personnes artwork which involved piles of clothing to sort of commemorate the dead and to make you ponder on mortality and fate. Don't if this really has any connection but the pictures looked eerie.

The song was actually a dedication towards the tragedy of the Sewol Ferry that happened in 2014. Taehyung in the beginning was a survivor and he felt guilt that he left his friends (victims that died in the accident) behind, Jimin found a victim's pair of shoes lying on the beach and knew it was his friend's so he hung it on a tree to show that person can never walk in those shoes again. The scene where Jin was left below the staircase and the rest of the members were walking up the stairs shows that the survivors are growing up and moving on without him since he was a victim. Jungkook was a person who was also left behind but was unable to be saved...

The shoes are extremely symbolic throughout this MV. In Korea, it is a common act for someone to remove their shoes before committing suicide.
When Jimin sits on the beach, when he is in the laundromat, and when he stands next to the tree at the end of the MV, he holds the shoes of his loved one who has left him. The scene at the end of the video with the shoes hanging in the tree also has a deeper meaning. Shoes are hung like this is many cultures to symbolize the death of the owner and to place them high up so that their owner can easily find them again after death. It may also symbolize that they are now in a higher place. CLOTHING From the point when you see Jin staring at the clothes in the dryer in the laundromat, to the boys sitting on a pile of laundry that flies through a confetti sky. Suga’s rap also mentions that he would choose to forget his loved one because it is easier than blaming them. This could be seen as the stage of denial or anger. He is angry at this person for committing suicide and leaving him. YELLOW RIBBONS If you watch the scene of the swing set at night, here Jungkook is alone even though people are moving around him, you will see that there are yellow ribbons tied all over the posts, fluttering in the breeze. Yellow ribbons are an emblem used for suicide awareness. They were also used to indicate remembrance for the victims of the Sewol Ferry disaster.

The MV is about the bond of life now and after between friends. The train
represents the passage to the next life. In the start, V waits
symbolically listening for the passage as he rests his ear on the rail.
Rap Mon is already there and begins the music part. Each one
eventually goes on the train alone but do not leave. This is the
reference to "You never walk alone". They are waiting for each other
and will not leave until all have come aboard. Jimin waits on the beach
searching for a pair of shoes but just one. The scenes outside the
passage, are memories shared of each other as friends and times as
birthday parties and laughing together. Jin and laundry is the
transition from the physical life to the next life...a sort of
cleansing. The mountain of clothes
represents leaving there possessions behind. This mountain starts with
Suga alone ...and again is alone but joined by his friends. Kookie is
alone on the train and has been waiting along time...he reflects back on
his memories with his friends. Finally Kookie knows that his friends
are aboard and searches all over for them. They meet up together as
friends again. Final scene is the friends in the train car together,
and J Hope wakes up Jimin to tell him they have arrived to next life.
They leave together and leave just one pair of shoes to represent the
bond together as one. The music title "Spring Day" is a reference to life anew/regeneration of the bond with the friends. Touching story by BTS again!

i read that it was a tribute to the ferry incident ,the shoes came from the ocean, about 300 people died and the pile of clothes represent all of them and the shoes being hung on a tree means someone has died and is left there for them to find when they come back

The MV references the Sewol Ferry incident which the South Korean government attempted to cover up. The pile of clothes is meant to resemble the number of lives lost. The song also references the story of Omelas, in which an entire city is able to live in peace and prosper due to the suffering of a child -those that find out about it mostly turn a blind eye but others choose to walk away, hence the title 'The Ones Who Walk From Omelas'. It's also speculated that Jin is dead and has been watching over the group of boys (through his hand camera) for some time, the video also hints that V perhaps tried to end his own life and may have succeeded (he makes the same hand camera gesture Jin does), and he's known for trying to kill himself often.
Ultimately the song is about the campaign #YouNeverWalkAlone in which the members come together at the end despite their differences for their love of each other.
This music video is based on, "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas". My theory is that Jungkook is the child (when you read the book you'll know what I mean) and that the others took him with them when they left. I can't tie anything that I've found to J-Hope not having any lines, but I think I figured this out. The people who chase them in Not Today are the people of Omelas. They end up killing Jin instead of Jungkook. The others become depressed which leads to I NEED U, Run, Blood Sweat and Tears, the WINGS shorts, SAVE ME, and anything else that's tied to the whole WINGS theory.

you are right about the shoes. this song is said to pay respect to those who died in the SEWOL ferry disaster in which more than 300 hundred people - among them were more than 250 high school students- drowned to death. The government back then did nothing to save them (or maybe, just maybe, anyway one of the conspiracy theories says that the president who is now impeached, caused the shipwreck to distract Korean people from learning about political issues that could take the power away from her. We now have a model president through candlelight revolution. But, the we do still mourn over those who sank with the ferry. And the song, the shoes in the video, the youth they want to hold on to in the video all..remind us, Koreans, the SEWOL ferry tragedy.

The stores is that when you saw the on the train, he's trying to commit suicide. and you know that part when j-hope had the airplane made out of paper and flew it in front of him? It was a signal for tae to move the train is coming. But he didn't move....they all ran together to the train and they looked at kookie? who was in the train lol..but that meant that tae is now dead....and so is Jin. Suga was talking about "I hate you, you left me stuff" I believe he was mad about them leaving him. As you know Jin had no shoes in pictures. And his shoes were found on the beach by Jimin. They all put the shoes on the tree. AT the end there are six of the boys. But tae is with them watching. I know the omelas story but I'm to sad to share it. I guess look it up heh. (Tae already tried to commit suicide 2 times now) also Jin and tae are in the train watching over the boys. With the point in you see hobi and suga or kookie sitting across from each other. Those Who Walk Away From Omelas is a short story that critiques utilitarian moral theory, or the idea that the needs of thd many outweigh the needs of the few. Omelas is a town that is prosperous without any pain or struggle because the residents torture a child, converting his pain into prosperity. Those who walk away reject the town, and are doomed to wander the wastelands but they do not participate in the torture of the child.
This song is a remembrance song. I give condolences to the victims of the sewolho ship.
