Definitely not over weight here as the average public and interviews said. She just looked like a healthy 21 yr old.
Katniss in the books is like 5 feet tall, has curly black hair and grey eyes, and is EMACIATED. It was totally mis-cast from a written character resemblance standpoint but her personality and ability to convey a certain toughness was crucial. Still a win. She’s a goddess
I agree! If you want to stay true to the book character, yes, she was a starving teenager, so yes, she should have been skinnier for the first couple scenes before she was in the capital. But Jennifer Lawrence was perfect, personality wise for Katniss, so most people don't care if she looked healthy!
I’m glad they didn’t make her lose weight because then it’s also unrealistic to have this starving skinny girl have the energy to do all these athletic things. Wonder Woman, for example, doesn’t look athletic at all and even though I know her strength is super human, it just doesn’t look right to have this model thin woman (nothing against Gal Gadot, she’s gorgeous) be a superhero while every other male superhero is ripped.
@Andy-xx3tt I think that was the whole point of the story though with the "may the odds be ever in your favor". People from the last districts were usually so old lequipped to win the hunger games from lack of food and training that they never won. Katniss was lucky that the ecosystem of that season of Hunger Ganes was si similar to the woods she spent years hunting in. She did that while already being used to being poor and underfed.
That's true but I don't think people should expect an actress to put their life in danger just because it was written in the books. I think this is a part that people could easily overlook
Rule #1, don't comment on a woman's weight. You might think "healthy" and "not too thin" are compliments, but to a young woman who might be struggling with an ED, you just called her fat.

I think one thing that a lot of people don’t realize or are overlooking, is also just her stature - women of a certain height that also have what’s called athletic shoulders have a larger frame in order to support that stature. It’s not fat or slim, it’s just build. I’m even taller than her, and I am honestly permanently scarred by the comments that were made when I was growing up because I was tall but not model thin - as though one instantly equates the other. And I’ve seen Sophie Turner, again similarly tall and of an athletic build, have similar comments. It’s saddening and infuriating, and I wish people just understood.

She’s so in shape and beautiful idk why people think otherwise. She’s very natural and is clearly healthy. Most actors that are stick thin are not nor are they if they’re fat. She is very balanced and deserves nothing but praise for how she looks and acts. She brings class back to Hollywood.
Compared to the conditions the character was in, yes she didn’t fit, but I legit rewatch hunger games every few weeks because she was PERFECTLY cast in all other aspects. Didn’t even know this was a thing that went around.
I think it works because her and Gail are supposed to be getting enough food for their families. It's how she is strong enough to compete in the games.
Her body type didn't fit book-Katniss, but I wouldn't have wanted to see that version portrayed on screen. The only way to LOOK thin and malnourished would have been to be so (barring CGI which rarely ages well, even if it looks good at the time) and I think we need to prioritize the health of actors over the aesthetic. Plus, not wanting young girls to emulate that.
This shit is why body dysmorphia exists. It's stunning to me that she would not be considered thin enough to play someone who might not always have access to a lot of food, it never even crossed my mind while watching the hunger games. Everyone has different bodies and that is ok, some people are very thin if they don't eat very much and others just aren't, it's just not their body type and it is also okay for an actress to not look emaciated and put her health at risk to play the role of someone who can't afford to eat a lot. Plus Katniss was an expert hunter so she probably had better access to food than most of the other characters in her district and when she won the hunger games the first time she could afford all the food her and her family wanted so gaining a few pounds would actually make a lot of sense. She has always looked amazing and so do people that are heavier or skinnier than her as long as they are healthy, that is all that matters.
Her figure was perfect for the character. She’s a skilled archer who lives in a lumber region. She would have had plenty of meat and tallow to live by. A region that can support forest, is also fertile enough for home grown veggies. Katniss would have been one of the lucky ones who wasn’t starving
Dude if you read the books you’d know Katniss and her family were extremely poor. They barely had food and whatever food she did get, she hunted from the forest and traded for. She definitely wasn’t one of the lucky ones

Katniss was from a district 12 where food is scarce and many die from malnourishment. I’m from Appalachia, where Katniss is from, if Hollywood made a movie about Blair mountain, a real event with real people who were dirt poor living in the middle of nowhere, the last thing I would be concerned about is everyone being skinny enough but instead the historical accuracy of the actual important events that took place. Katniss isn’t real, but Jennifer Lawrence is. No point in making a real living woman suffer for the sake of, ‘accuracy’ in fiction. It’s fiction. It doesn’t need to be ‘accurate’ at the expense of the actors health. Your entertainment is not more important then these peoples health.

@dysmissme7343 tbh I would say, as someone who read the books, I wouldn't want any actress to look like katniss. @BlueDauntless the twilight cgi was horrible lmao but cgi was also more expensive in the 2010s than it is now. Not disagreeing with your point in general because I love Jennifer Lawrence and think she was a great choice to play Katniss, but in the books she was described as super malnourished, to the point that she looked years younger than she was. That doesn’t mean it would have been better to portray her that way in the movies, they are an entirely different medium, but I wouldn’t say it’s based off of textual evidence.

Never got into hunger games but always thought she is absolutely stunning with a perfect body.
Thats what i was thibking too. I thibk it was wrong timing. She was skinny at the time but Katniss was supposed to be starved

So, you want this girl to starve herself for the sake of historical accuracy for events that never actually took place?
I agree. Many actors change their bodies with full dedication to match their characters. She's confusing herself with her character. And she does not match Katniss's description. Imagine if Jared Leto looked all nice and chubby while playing someone who was dying from HIV AIDS.
@@KarAashika Sometimes those actors push past their limits too with changing their body weight too quickly or by unhealthy means. Her character was an excellent hunter so she wouldn't be missing many meals. I don't know anyone in real life that complained about her body not being accurate for the role. It's not like she was overweight, she was fit which I think is accurate since she was always walking/running and hunting in the forest.
@@KarAashikaoh how you missed the entire point. Imagine being the person who wishes to sound smart but doesn't.....
@@KarAashika exactly, or if Will Smith played Muhammad Ali looking like the bean pole he was on Fresh Prince of Belair?
She has always been so beautiful ❤
