It was only 6 years ago that the Ukrainian league was poised to be one of the best European leagues outside of the top 4 leagues for a while. Shakhtar was a European power and a pipeline for young Brazilian talent, Dynamo Kiev was always solid, and Dnipro and Metalist Kharkiv were up and coming teams with loads of talent who could compete for Ukrainian honors and play in European competitions. Now, Dnipro and Metalist Kharkiv no longer exist, Shakhtar hasn't played in their beautiful new Donbass arena for years since they can't go home, and Dynamo Kiev is below their usual standards. Sad what happened there.

I must admit I wanted Napoli to win the Europa League so Hamsik can lift the same trophy as Maradona did. However Dnipro's story was beautiful and almost had a fairytale ending. Such a shame to see Ukraine split up because of Russia and the West.

@@Falco7ich Even in the t shirt is written dnepr because club was started in Soviet Union and then official language was Russian. And in Ukraine now two commentators. One comments in Ukrainian second in Russian and commentator that is talking Russian always said dnepr. I don’t know is it correct but all in Ukraine in Ukrainian say Dnipro and in Russian dnepr.

Didnt know the club until they reached the group stages in 2014. I wanted to win so bad, because I like the story of a club that nobody knew of, reached so far. Sadly enough, Dnipro is no more. I know there's Dnipro-1, but that's not the same. It is the same, but it's just not the same.

That year just Dnipro should have reached the final. That was the plan to make a gift to them because of war against Russian separatists in Donbas. Just look at how they have qualified to play offs after the group stage. On the 5th matchday three teams in that group had 4 points. Any of those 3 teams who win the match would get advantage to qualify. Dnipro plays against Internazionale and loses the match as expected. On the other side newbie Qarabag plays against french Saint Etienne. In case one of them wins the game Dnipro almost loses the chance to promote and referees decide to make them drawn. (1-1). I don't remember, 2 goals of Saint Etienne are denied due to offside, one of them I clearly remember that was onside. Saint Etienne was stronger in that match and if they made it 2-1 Qarabag would obviously lose the game and it would ruin plans to promote Dnipro. In the last matchday Qarabag played against Internazionale. In case Qarabag won against Internazionale they would qualify regardless of the result of Dnipro - Saint Etienne duel. Nobody expected Qarabag to defeat Internazionale. And guess what? Qarabag scored a winning goal in 90+4. But stop... We want to promote Dnipro, not Qarabag... So what should we do now? Yes, we should deny the goal, but there is not any rule violation, it is a clear goal, how can we do that? It does not make sense, just deny that goal, Qarabag is a newbie, no one will care about it. The goal was denied without giving any explanation about the reason why it was denied and no one cared. Watch "Qarabag 0-0 Internazionale" highlights if you want to make sure)
