Trained bjj in a big city and a small town and met probably 500 grapplers wrestlers judoka and mma fighters and there are maybe 3 people I would say were bad people. The other 497 were mostly chill dudes and dudettes who wanted to test the limits of what their body could do while having a laugh with their friends. Fight sports are super wholesome most of the time.
I’m glad you had a wholesome experience. In my area there is always controversy going on in at least one BJJ gym in town, tons of dudes with little man syndrome, or just a-hole upper belts that are not allowed in half the academy for ripping too many white belts knees off. Weird right? It would make logical sense that the good guys are also the guys that can fight when it’s needed. I mean, if you don’t like violence to stop violence, you’re completely ignoring the entire legal system designed to keep you safe lol.
Violence should never be a go-to solution for something but sometimes you have no choice in cases like this. Pacifism shouldn't just be completely one note "violence bad". That's an extreme which can actually cause harm.
99.67% of people don't understand what violence means though. MMA matches are not violence. There are rules of engagement. There is an agreement. It's a contest.
Maybe you are in that percentage. MMA is definitely violent, as is boxing, or karate, or fencing. Martial arts in general are about violence (how to master it, to control it, to use it more effectively). The fact that is "controlled" or "agreed" violence, or that there are rules of engagement, doesn't mean is not violence (as in, physically trying to hurt someone else). That's what violence means in this context, physical aggression. I think that most people understand what violence is tho, is not that hard. By your comment I think that you understand violence as just unfair or unlawful violence, and that's not what the plain word "violence" means.
@@IacomusPX As someone that has gone through "actual" violence and practiced martial arts, I must disagree. Maybe the word is insufficient, but the sentiment expressed on the fisrt coment is true.

I remember this video! I felt like the guy was really coming around and becoming a fan by the end, but Seth is probably right: he may not have ever been a real pacifist to begin with.
One of my favorite shows, Leverage, has an episode involving MMA/combat sports, and in it, Eliot said something that really resonated with me: he said that MMA/combat sports is about control, control of yourself and your environment. And the more I ruminate on that, and the more I consider the philosophy of martial arts, it makes sense. We train, we fight, we push our bodies and minds to a point where we know our boundaries, to surpass those boundaries. It’s not so much an outward struggle as much as it is an internal struggle. Bah, maybe I’m just thinking too much about it. lol. It just depends on how you see the world and your place in it, understanding the three parts of being human, mind, spirit, body, and the connection between them.
As someone who does appreciate pacifism as concept and would love to see it actually integrated into global reality ... pacifism has no issue with 2 consenting adults bashing in each others skulls as this is not the kind of violence pacifism is opposed to, like several other people already pointed out.
The fundamental difference here is that these are people who have agreed and prepared to fight each other - it's not some random thing that just broke out and someone who had no idea what was coming was attacked. There are rules and as badly as you can get hurt doing this, you knew that going in and accepted the risk. I think most people would agree that if they saw someone get assaulted on the street they would react similarly to these people - shock, how can people do that to someone else, etc.
Grew up in the 90s w no parents basically. As a clueless young man with gangster rap and alternative metal influences, Pulp fiction, and Bloodsport, etc..was easy to gravitate towards violence. Having a coach that taught how to channel anxiety, depression, rage and all that bs into a positive force in life is a gift that keeps giving. I owe everything I have to my lessons on discipline in the martial arts. Its alot for than just a fight.
Every so often I'll mention that I like MMA and the reaction is like "it's barbaric" or something and if I'm being honest they're not wrong. You have to be a special kind of crazy to get in a ring and fight someone on purpose. It's still pretty cool though.
MMA represents late stage societal decay. It really is that simple. Bread and circuses of the modern day. It doesn't matter what justification you put to it. You are all high-minded individuals who will be humbled someday. A symptom of a deeper rot.
ItIt's called being brave the over coming your fear, loving what you do , people that are cowards and super squeemish and sacred of physical contact are not gonnah like it
Supporter and fan of mma, but I can totally understand why some people may not like it. Despite being controlled violence, it is still two people hurting each other, breaking each others' bones and splitting each others' faces open. A good portion of long term fighters will have to live with life long injuries, especially neurological ones. I respect the opinion of those who don't like this.
The irony is that from a neurological standpoint, MMA is "safer". So many boxing deaths were caused by excessive rounds that they were limited to 15, then later revised to 12. Boxers often have hundreds of amateur fights before they go pro. However for everything else MMA wears the body out.
I am a very very new student of martial arts (currently practicing mostly kickboxing but I aim to learn jujitsu after I become more comfortable with my kick boxing skills) and I personally do it because it helps my mental strength and also there's no denying how FUN it is to spar with a friend and watch yourselves become better and better doing something you love (it's like playing fighting games as kids haha)
I have no problem other people not liking things I like. These people were made to go out of their way to watch something they have a predisposition to dislike and the experience they were given here validates their position. I can't be forced to like things I don't like either, and I won't even bother mentioning what these are because who cares? But if I were put in a show like this about those things, I would obviously react as expected. But since I'm commenting on this channel, I like the sport of fighting and the practice of martial arts.
I enjoy combat sports but I've seen videos of fighters who didn't get the care they were promised at the end of their careers. They should always make sure to take care of those that used life and limb to provide entertainment for us during and at the end of their careers IMO. Though I'd like to think its something that's naturally done.
I got an ad right as Seth went in for the knee mimicing Masvidal and I just hear FALCO-AND SEE SETHS KNEE ON FIRE AS IT transitions to an ad truly beautiful
I’m a pacifist, I do MMA… some of the moves I practice are pretty violent (elbows and knees to the face) but I don’t like causing harm to others, I never intend to cause harm to others. If I’m doing this sport and I feel both me and my opponent are going to fight and get seriously injured when we really don’t need to, the pacifist in me will decline and I’ll happily give them the win so they can move on and fight someone else. But I wouldn’t mind sparring with people. I dislike knocking people out or hurting people… but if I’m DOING MMA I am in CONTROL of that, how hard I’m hitting them, don’t care what happens to me as much… so I’m fine with watching other people do it, I just wouldn’t put myself in the situation (avoid fighting) or feel extremely bad if I did do serious harm (remorse over accidents or escalation that could result or have been interpreted as intentional) which I think is a more pacifist view on it. I haven’t watched the video fully yet but I bet they’ll think they’re pacifists… but really they find seeing fighting discomforting. Like, if you see blood, you simply don’t like the sight of blood, doesn’t make you a pacifist. Hmm, I think these people just don’t like things. The guy seems closer to an actual pacifist, saying he wouldn’t do it himself over thinking that other people he can’t stop from fighting shouldn’t. Ah, they think that their mindset is very judgemental, a little confrontational/arrogant for their version of “Pacifism”. But yeah, I’m surprised they don’t have a similar reason as me… like, I obviously never wanted to hurt people when I was younger, but I wouldn’t be against harming someone if I needed to… I only realised I was a pacifist when I made a mistake (as an adult) and even though I didn’t have a “fight” and there was no fighting involved. I thought to myself, “I never want to see the suffering that came from something I’m partially (or fully) responsible for… ever again.” So… yeah, just a little more scared/concerned/aware of things like consequences. no one died btw. Just very sad result of the mistake, but yeah. This was an enjoyable video, your commentary was nice and fun, glad to have found it.
Tbh I've never heard a pacifist say they "hate violence" like I dunno if your gonna "hate" something I feel like at some point you gotta have a violent backing
This video made me realize how desentized i really am to “violence” overall lol. As a 10 year old i watched an ungodly amount of gore videos, beheadings, accidents, etc and now In my early 20’s i fight/train Muay Thai and i MMA spar weekly and it makes me feel good lol. I’ve gotten a bloody nose, cuts, etc and i don’t really feel it at all and it doesn’t seem bad to me at all. All of us in the gym love martial arts and we compliment each other in sparring when we land something nasty. We bond through martial arts and it’s just overall respect, harmony, and love MUCH more than the “real” world in terms of school, the workplace, etc. Martial arts have made me a much more nice, kind, forgiving, and giving person overall. I think it’s because i understand violence and harm much more than the average person so it gives me more room to be peaceful, kind, and have to urge to spread more love
I'm glad to know the women have never been in any dangerous situations and have the comfort to go through life with their beliefs. Unfortunately for plenty of us violence has its place in our lives whether we like it or not.
I think pacifists especially should learn how to fight. If you learn how to fight well, you also learn how to avoid a fight. It seems to me that the best fighters are the ones who get into the least fights.
I don't compete in MMA so maybe my opinion doesn't matter much. But my brother does so I've watched a fair bit of it and while my initial reaction, years back, was fairly similar to those three, I have grown to enjoy it (-ish). The one thing I've never been able to be OK with is punching an opponent who is clearly knocked out. I understand why it makes tactical sense. I also understand it's hard to instantly snap out of the "fight mode". But whenever I see it it just disgusts me. So I do get some of those reactions.
It's human nature to hate change, but it's human history to have to embrace it. Fighting isn't new, but fighting with rules in place to protect both fighters is still new enough that the stigma is still there. I hope more people learn to understand it
What these people don't understand is that combat is not the same thing as conflict. I punch, kick and choke my best friends cuz we all train together. I don't do it to hurt them, i do it for the mutual skill improvement and the enjoyment of combat. Combat + conflict is where things actually get scary and go to really dark places. When you have combat without conflict, you're just trying to get the win in the most efficient way without breaking the rules. When you have combat with conflict, you're actively trying to injure, cause pain, and potentially kill your opponent, and rules won't stop you from going too far in those situations.
"Surely there's another way to resolve this." There is quite literally no other way to resolve your desire to test yourself in a fight than to get into a fight. If anything, this is one of the healthiest and most peaceful ways to do that.
i know nothing about martial arts but as a metal fan i love to mosh in concerts , moshing is a form of violence but it makes us more happy and more calm , i believe MMA and martial arts in general work in the same way , we have to vent out the rage and balance our dark side it's not healthy to supress such feelings

And don’t even get me started with the MT gyms 😅
So if someone is hitting a child and another person attacks that person to save the child. She still hates it?
Weird right? It would make logical sense that the good guys are also the guys that can fight when it’s needed.
I mean, if you don’t like violence to stop violence, you’re completely ignoring the entire legal system designed to keep you safe lol.
@@shaunpearce6846 I guess she thinks if she asked the person beating the child nicely. That they would stop
Violence should never be a go-to solution for something but sometimes you have no choice in cases like this. Pacifism shouldn't just be completely one note "violence bad". That's an extreme which can actually cause harm.
her brain is missing the "logical thinking" components
@@gagetaylor192 well put, I agree.
99.67% of people don't understand what violence means though.
MMA matches are not violence. There are rules of engagement. There is an agreement. It's a contest.

@@TheGenericAssasin 99.99999% of your brain is retarded. That's why your profile name is that.
@@stellocut99 See there you go its not that hard.
Her interview with Nathaniel really boils my blood, she didn't come there to listen at all and already decided you must have evil in your heart to want to hurt other ppl, even when I genuinely don't know a single fighter that actually enjoys hurting other ppl, we like winning and generally you gotta beat the other dude up for that to happen. That's all it is
She lacks self-awareness and is likely a narcissist.

I remember this video! I felt like the guy was really coming around and becoming a fan by the end, but Seth is probably right: he may not have ever been a real pacifist to begin with.
All these people are actors working for a UK agency called the Mandy Network. You can see their profiles on the Mandy site.
If you want peace, be strong. Being strong can hold decision or you are just being under someone' mercy
2:13 her facial expression scared him more than MMA could
MVP throwing a pokeball at Cyborg while having a compress skull must be one of the worst unintentional dark humor ever xD

Its alot for than just a fight.
whenever people say I'm a lover not a fighter it makes me cringe so much lmao.
"The less you violence violence, the more the violence violences..." 🤣 effing gold
I love how Nathaniel just sat there and listened to her speak and looked just so done with her like 5 seconds in
anyone who says violence doesn't solve anything, simply never applied violence correctly.

She may not have an age, but she got an adams apple.
ItIt's called being brave the over coming your fear, loving what you do , people that are cowards and super squeemish and sacred of physical contact are not gonnah like it
That breakdown of the girls argument that people shouldn’t counter violence with “violence” was great.
Cyborg smiling after getting his skull caved in just shows how some people are just different beasts lol
Whoever edits your videos is goated they have excellent timing!

@@ChucksSEADnDEAD I know, same applies to boxing.
But since I'm commenting on this channel, I like the sport of fighting and the practice of martial arts.
lol, ingrid had such a one dimensional way of viewing mma fighters.
I enjoy combat sports but I've seen videos of fighters who didn't get the care they were promised at the end of their careers. They should always make sure to take care of those that used life and limb to provide entertainment for us during and at the end of their careers IMO. Though I'd like to think its something that's naturally done.
Needless to say but some organizations are much better then others at managing things like that
The second video with the interview, is actually a really good lesson about why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Great stuff Sensei.
Zach deffo lied on his application when he came and filmed with us hahahaha
I thought to myself, “I never want to see the suffering that came from something I’m partially (or fully) responsible for… ever again.”
So… yeah, just a little more scared/concerned/aware of things like consequences. no one died btw. Just very sad result of the mistake, but yeah.
This was an enjoyable video, your commentary was nice and fun, glad to have found it.
Seth might have one of the best senses of humour I've ever seen. And I f'n love the edits 😂
Zach honestly sounds like he lied so he could watch MMA highlights on camera 😂 Bro was enjoying himself
Tbh I've never heard a pacifist say they "hate violence" like I dunno if your gonna "hate" something I feel like at some point you gotta have a violent backing

"Is he knocked out?!?"
No, Karren. He decided to lay down and take a nap during the stressful times💀
Bro, Sean Strickland is one of the best, most genuine people in MMA. WTF?
He said can you imagine bringing Sean Strickland in 😆🤣
This video made me realize how desentized i really am to “violence” overall lol.
I really think the best thing about your videos are that I don't feel like I've gotten kicked in the face afterwards.
I'm glad to know the women have never been in any dangerous situations and have the comfort to go through life with their beliefs. Unfortunately for plenty of us violence has its place in our lives whether we like it or not.
Man honestly i laugh more at this channel than Seth's main! This channel deserves far more subs. Good stuff!
I think pacifists especially should learn how to fight. If you learn how to fight well, you also learn how to avoid a fight. It seems to me that the best fighters are the ones who get into the least fights.
If you don't know how to fight you're not a pacifist.
So I do get some of those reactions.
could you imagine if they brought Jon Jones in to do that interview with the un-aged woman.

I love this channel. Maybe even more than the main channel 😂
i didn't know you had such sick dunking skills seth
It's human nature to hate change, but it's human history to have to embrace it. Fighting isn't new, but fighting with rules in place to protect both fighters is still new enough that the stigma is still there. I hope more people learn to understand it

9:56 ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US
What these people don't understand is that combat is not the same thing as conflict.
Peace be with you, Sensei Seth. I hope your Aikido is as sharp as your Spirit. 🙏
honestly those last punches sometimes dont click with your brain that you ko'd someone so you go in to finish til ref stops.
"Surely there's another way to resolve this."
There is quite literally no other way to resolve your desire to test yourself in a fight than to get into a fight. If anything, this is one of the healthiest and most peaceful ways to do that.
The super smash bros edit had me tickled 😂 3:22
Watching fight sport is like eating spicy food, some needs to build the tolerance, but some, just born in to it.
i know nothing about martial arts but as a metal fan i love to mosh in concerts , moshing is a form of violence
but it makes us more happy and more calm , i believe MMA and martial arts in general work in the same way ,
we have to vent out the rage and balance our dark side it's not healthy to supress such feelings
I think that every person should know how to fight you never know when situation may demand a person to do so but also use it as a last resort.
