Here I am in the U.S. trying to make WWII German military items look authentic and vintage and in Germany you are doing the same only with U.S. military items. I love this world of collectors and reenactment groups. We are all trying to preserve history in the most meaningful way. Thanks bro.

It was in decent condition with minor rust but lots of pitting and I got it for $25. I am trying to make it an m1c ww2 paratrooper helmet with 502nd markings. I only just painted primer on it as I am waiting for my paint to arrive to finish it. Anyway, thanks for all the help History Secrets!

You are wasting most of the cork. Put the cork in a plastic jar that has small holes in the lid, you can then shake it over the wet sections of the lid. Much quicker and an even finish.

I had a mistake while buying what I thought was an original ww2 m1 helmet, turned out to be a an original ww2 helmet net. That my cat loves due to the I guess musty storage oder it has, I mostly would keep it in my ammo box so I don't have to really smell it since I don't have a m1 helmet yet, but Ebay is always your friend when it comes to ww2 memorabilia and clothing.

If it has a front seam/slit in the front it’s definitely ww2 produced.
Rear seam can be ww2 but it’s more rare but not hard to find.
      Swivel bail came in 1943
      Front seam 1940/41 - late 1944
      Rear seam late 1944 - 1968/69.
      American production stopped in 1969.
While other countries still made them into the 1980s
The U.S. stopped using the m1 in the mid 80s.
Maybe later since it takes time to replace gear or equipment.

  • @VegasCyclingFreak
    @VegasCyclingFreak 6 років тому

Is the cork for getting a texture on the helmet or is that what they actually used? Never really paid much attention to the texture on the US helmets. Even though I'm living in the USA I haven't seen many WWII helmets.

A helmet can be really shiny if it gets wet, so the texture helps to conceal the nature of the surface from the eye :)
