Thanks to guys like you, I have successfully built a boosted daily Honda Civic...Rod piston cam valves etc... 4000 miles later on 16 psi it still lives, Thank you.......
#MurdaSquad We got some awesome help from Real St. and we goin' to Florida! Didn't know Real St. had content like this. As a parts guy I can definitely get into this.
Can't wait for your engine build with Murda. You will not have a better person to represent you. Just found your page through Murdas shout-out. Great content and keep it up!!!
Jay thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I’m a fabricator and tech but I been learning more about engine building from you then anyplace else. Again thank you!
LET'S GO JAY!!!🏁 I run a 4032 Wiseco in an Ecotec..running ~20-27 psi..never had an issue..obviously tuning is key...I'm not trying to make "all the powers"..... it's a street car not a track car..☝️
can u use telescopic rod measure for the inside? not sure if it's the right name, but it looks like a T and u put inside the micrometer after having it inside the cylinder.
Why not put a ring at the bottom-ish of the piston skirt to stabilize it in the bore. The farter apart the rings the less likely the piston is to rock/rotate in the bore right?
I’ve watched bout all of jays videos and have never seen him ever use a cordless to zip fasteners on or off… I fully understand that all the fasteners need to be torqued, but he could still zip em up n down to save time. Any reason why he doesn’t use a cordless ?
take the top ring and square it up to where it sits in the bottom of the bore, then compare the measurement where the ring sits at the top of the bore, there is a slight difference.
Does anyone know if it is normal for new piston rings to make a slight scraping noise? I even uninstalled to make sure rings and cylinder wall were good, and they were. Is this normal for rings riding on a newly deglazed cylinder wall?
For all of us regular poor folk, who are re using the factory pistons and want to check them, FSM says the measuring point for pistons is 15mm up from the edge of the skirt. (for B18a1 at least)
Hi Jay, interesting to see the influence on measurements of the torque plate. Most people don’t have that luxury. What sort of gains (power and reliability) would be expected by using a torque plate as part of an engine build process whilst machining and measuring? Also could you heat block with torque plate fitted and re measure to see how it influences the recorded dimension? Thanks for the video
I have seen differences of up tp .002" in piston clearance without a torque plate. It is almost like the measurments without a torque plate arent even valid.
He did a really good ring filing video already I highly recommend watching it before doing your own rings. Its the best vid on youtube for ring filling.
I have a question if anybody can answer, what is the term in English or a word (verb or adj.) using when the cylinder diameter expanded and the piston goes free to move inside?
Just wondering why don’t machinists heat the block up to operating temperature then take all their measurements and also use the measurements they gathered from the cold block? Wouldn’t that give them the most accurate information for cylinder bores and piston ring sizes needed?
Too much clearance have screwed three street engines for me with 2000 miles... Over 2 thousands wear on the bore where the skirt is hitting. Also excessive blow by in high rpm.
Tuning errors can cause piston skirt damage and score the cylinder bores. I made a stupid mistake on a personal sleeved 2.0 LSv, changed the map sensor and didn't re-scale the ignition map. Pistons nearly seized in the bores because of the extra heat. The piston crowns were perfect, the cylinders and piston skirts were fooked.
@@moedigzz Well i can send you a pic where the piston is perfect but its slightly wornl in edge areas at the skirt (not at the correct area) because of the loose tolerances, bore on the other hand was abysmall. Its like the aluminium piston was harder than the cast iron block and wore away the engine block where the skirts were rocking. So loose tolerances is a no no for me for street cars... Tolerances were 4.5-5 thou and the bore was worn only at the skirt area to 5.5-6 thou.
To viewers that don't know forged pistons expand a lot further but slower then oem cast pistons. It's very very important to let your engine get up to temp before hammering on it. Piston to wall clearance is extremly critical. DO NOT attempt to set this in your garage. It's just not going to properly happen. Call Jeff@CNC Werx to get the work you need done correctly.
Why oh why are almost all of these mechanic content producers using annoying and distracting music? These videos are academic! Try too imagine yourself in a class room trying to take in a lesson with music playing in the background??? Shopping malls are an appropriate place for elevator music, not class rooms.
This video is top notch. Thanks Jay!
#MurdaSquad can't wait to see the episode with Murda and Jay! 👏👍Thanks for the opportunity Jay, means a lot to us fans.
Here from Murda squad. Great info and super well done! Cool to see communities collab

Hell to the yeah! Thank you for working with Murda! #murdasquad
#MurdaSquad if I ever get my JZX100 down in Florida one day I'll pay a visit :)
New favorite channel. Thanks all you folks
Nice channel, Murda sent me. 😀
Be a part of something amazing! #motorformurda #murdasquad
Yo thanks for hooking up #MURDASQUAD
Hook up Murda with and engine he will not let you guys down he goes above and beyond doing what he loves Racing
#MurdaSquad help murda build a engine! He the realist and one of the most dedicated people on the social media car scene.
Jay, thank you for sharing your expertise. You explain things very well. I love your videos. Thank you!

Jay thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I’m a fabricator and tech but I been learning more about engine building from you then anyplace else. Again thank you!
What Jay does looks like more fun than my job...😶
Jay, you need to make a 2jz build bible.
Jay this is why I have been a long time subscriber and purchase all of my Honda parts from real street. !!!!
I've seen 3 thou clearance on a 2618 piston in a all out race ej25 built for time attack , engine is making around 580kw
Thanks for sharing very detailed tutorial learnt alot
Hook our boy Murda up with a motor!!!
Thank you for the info on PWC and how to measure this
LET'S GO JAY!!!🏁

4032 FTW! The less heat expansion variables the better.
Hook that man Murda up! #murdasquad #motor4murda
Murda squad in the house. looking forward to seeing Murda on an episode. 🚗💨
Excellent builder
Very well explained video thanks 👍
Murda squad checking in LETS GOOOOO!
tolerance is a wonderful thing
New sub from the #murdasquad. Love to see what's to come
Murdasquad needs block, motor something. Squad needs the IS300 back zoomin
Thanks Jay
Very useful informations. Thank you
Thanks for sharing!!
Fantastic video
murda squad checkin in
Thanks for the informative video Jay
Excellent video 👍🏻
Have you ever tried gapless rings? If so whats your opinion?
Thanks Jay!!
Thanks buddy 😊
Shouldn’t the L19 bolts/fasteners be handled using gloves since humidity and/or fingers acidity can harm the material?
Hello awesome video, I have a rb25det, do you have a table to all tolerances in different horsepower or setups? Thanks

Compre unos pistones 4g63 y el pasador no entra en ese caso que puedo hacer machine?? Oh comprar unos nuevo?

Should target clearances depend of fuel used? ie methanol?

Any machine shop should bore/ hone with a torque plate. At home to verify, torque the head on and measure from underneath.

I run .025" ptw only because that's what wiesco called for. Car makes 430whp on a 7m
.025” PTW??? Remind me NEVER to buy Wiseco.
Def meant to write .0025
Please do ring gaps next, im sick of all the bs from engine builders thinking they are proprietary. thanks for this at least, keep it up.
Any ring pack you buy comes with suggested ring gaps for everything from NA, to high boost and nitrous motors.
@@sethclark9897 yes, they give you suggestions. Thos gaps are much larger than optimal for all applications listed.

Engine "program." I like this more than engine "build." It makes more literal sense.

So that head gasket is garbage after the measurement?
