    About 5 years ago, I took a large rucksack full of coins down to my local Asda. I walked there with the heaviest load I'd ever carried on my back, blazing hot day too. The arduous journey would be worth it in my mind as I was going to weigh them in at the Coinstar then treat myself to some lovely deluxe beers and relax. I got there half dead only to find the Coinstar machine out of order😭😭😭. God, I coulda cried! I bought some beers anyway at the self checkout feeding the shrapnel coins into it. But I still had to get the beers and heavy coins back home. Ah, the memories!

    Have one of these machines in my credit union. I used to travel a lot for work (prior job, and before the covid pandemic). I would always arrive back home with a collection of coins. I'd put these into a piggy bank for my daughter. Once the piggy bank filled up, we would make a trip to the credit union to use the coinstar machine. Once the voucher printed out, we headed to the counter and got the money deposited into my daughter's account. Would typically be somewhere in the region of $70 to $100 each time. There was no coinstar transaction fee for this service. But now since I don't travel for work, I don't gather loose change. Pretty much everything I buy is via credit card these days. I always pay off the bill at the end of the month, of course.

    A great way to launder those ill gotten gains in change of a 95 here and a 99 there, they soon add up .
    Australia hasen't had copper 1&2 cent pieces for decades, same with $1 & $2 dollar notes. Everything is rounded up or down to the nearest 5 or 00.

  • @mansfieldlad123
    @mansfieldlad123 2 роки тому +4

    Those machines are a total rip off charging 10.9% in commission you wouldn't get nowhere near that in interest if you had a million pounds to invest for 5 years not just 5 minutes. People should also remember that the banks will charge businesses around £2 a hundred for supplying them with change it should be free to use them especially as there giving you a voucher you can only spend in there shop.

    • @Papparoni
      @Papparoni  2 роки тому +3

      I guess the commission includes the salary for the poor bugger who has to hoick all that change to the nearest bank! As for the voucher, I took it to customer services and they exchanged it for 'easier' cash :D
